It was a long day.

Exercise class was successful. In February I got a phone call out of the blue being offered an 8 week exercise program here at the buildings for our residents. It was such a success, our funding has been extended indefinitely. Today we had to move the class over to the lobby of the building across the street because of the Celebration of Life in the social room and we got two more people interested in joining as a result. As they walked into the building they saw us in our chairs, doing our stretches and asked if they could join.

Our complex has been identified as a Naturally Occurring Retirement Community by Stats Canada because 1/3 of our residents are older adults. As a result, we have started being offered programming for seniors.

In the meantime, that leaves 2/3 of the residents as NOT older adults and I'm trying to find activities that interest them. So far, not a lot of success although I did start up a composting group this week and most of those are below retirement age.

I got a lovely hug from the building cleaner today in appreciation for helping set up the luncheon. And he introduced me to his mom and when she thanked me, I was able to say that R. does so much for us I was happy to be able to do something for him. I'm sure being a cleaner in one's 50s may not seem like an important job to a lot of people but our home would be a lot less pleasant without those who work hard to clean up after us.

I also got the great news that a difficult tenant has moved out. I know the landlord was working on it but it is very hard to get rid of bad tenants. He had a very unruly dog that was being walked by someone else and behaving well one day as I was out on my walk. I stopped to chat with a neighbour and confirm it was the same dog. Turns out it was the tenant's drug dealer. I asked if the dog had been traded for drugs but apparently he has a softspot for dogs and is good with them so would walk this one after doing a delivery. For a moment I thought about asking him if he wanted to give the dog a home but I decided 1. I wasn't nervy enough to talk to a drug dealer and 2. perhaps it wouldn't be a better home for the dog. Anyway, I know 3 people on that floor that will be relieved the tenant is gone - nights after the drug dealer visits, the tenant used to be up all night raving.

When I got home, I basically did nothing except get dh's MRI booked and make myself a healthy dinner.

I've wasted away the evening, and am off to bed now.

I did discover that I can't complete the project because the reason my dishwasher console is cracked is that it pushes against the counter lip because the counter needs to be shimmed up or the dishwasher lowered. Covering that stretch of counter won't work because the dishwasher will scrape away the contact paper in moments.

I can still do a back splash but the counter covering won't work. Sigh....

Spent most of my day either playing with books in an attempt to get more good books into the fiction shelves and going through books that I am willing to let go. My trunk is filled again.

I also spent time cross stitching the project that is on the floor stand.

I ended up taking a steak out of the freezer and I BBQed it along with potatoes and onions that now have their own pan, which is the bottom half of a black roasting pan. It doesn't matter is it gets blackened on the BBQ because I can't see it, so it won't drive me nuts.
