The Sunday Scene

Well I’ve had a very busy morning. Got up and watched some news and drank my coffee and ate my breakfast. And then washed not clean but washed my two sliding glass doors. One of my sliding glass doors has extra panel in it so that meant I had to wash Five panels of glass.

Yesterday it rained all day long with thunder and lightning. I bet we got at least 4 inches of rain. It started up again this morning and stopped for just a little while and now I’m waiting for it to start again a lot of rain.

I took all of the microfiber towels that I used to clean my windows and put them in my washer and they’re going right now and as soon as they’re finished dog dry them and put them up.

The U.S. Open tennis has started today so I’m going to spend some time watching it as well. Yesterday I didn’t do much of anything. I just kind of sat around and read and watched some TV and took it easy. It was a lazy day for me.

Oy, I've been photographing and putting online the SU stuff that I'm trying to sell. Takes a lot of time unless one sells in lots, which is what I'm trying to do. And not sure if this stuff (discontinued ink pads and reinkers) will sell. Learned that I need to photograph each ink pad separately if I'm selling separately. Don't know if it's worth it but it's kind of fun to get something back out of all this stuff.

I've miss placed my keys for one rig have spares but this has me cleaning and hunting for em.
ack! Not a good feeling. . .
Did qt and have been to the veg. stand & back.
Not doing any more watering for now I"m on the hunt.
over 3/4ths of the way done with my steps.

Cleaned purse out 3 x.
Looked in pockets.
I'm all but one dresser now and coats.

Sat down for a bite of lunch & some music.
Found some things that made me smile.
Some cleaning happened some pupa and rbr things has happened.
Did some dusting.
More good news the pj's shrunk and did not need to be hemmed! Yea!

I am trying so hard to get paperwork sorted out. I started looking through my 2023 file for something and there was stuff in there for 2022. That led me down the physical rabbit hole (as opposed to the electronic/computer one I usually fall down into). Too many mis-filed pieces of paper. Now I know why I slept so well last night. My body might be sitting, but my brain is speeding along the "too much information" highway. I put the ironing board back up in the library and then I taped down 5 pieces of blank paper with the years 2019-2023 marked on them and now I'm going through those 5 years just to see if there is anything else in the wrong file. Then all 5 piles will be filed in the filing cabinet and that should be the end of dealing with the paperwork stuff for a while.

Cathy, you set the crafting-space scene this morning in such a charming way that at the same time, you made me feel so much better - I am not alone.

Sometimes I look around at my crafting space and think of the movie Stripes and the answer to the question, where is the Sargeant of this platoon, anyway? "Blown up, sir!"

I made biscuits this morning after the kitchen was spiffed. Perhaps I should have made a pie instead, but I can do that this evening or tomorrow. I think baking is starting to be therapeutic for me. I'm sure breadmaking, with its long kneading time, would be satisfying, but so far I'm not craving that much exercise!

Christmas lights up in August - makes sense to me, blessed. (you were right yesterday. I had even mentioned an iffy tummy from the day before but had had so many other complaints I forgot about that one.)

Dishwasher has been emptied.
Meat was taken out earlier. The BBQ is currently heating up and there are 4 foil wrapped potatoes on the upper rack already. Meat should only take 15 minutes.

One litter box has been cleaned, but I haven't refilled it and put it back on the floor yet. It's the box from the library and I don't need any of the cats coming in while I'm busy in there.

I stitched for a bit because I thought it would give my brain a break. Next thing I know I have someone sitting across from the table watching my every move like he usually does in the morning. It's like he was drawn to the table to stare at my hands. So I got up and started doing something else. Sometimes I just want to stitch all by myself. Time to seriously reconsider putting a comfortable chair back in there and stitching in there again. I will start looking around for a new-to-me chair. The current one is my old office chair. It's not that comfortable.

the garden guys left - my neighbors have now agreed to let us take care of the weeds and roots. I am thrilled. They cut all of them down and will be back with a safe weed spray (dawn/vinegar and salt)

spent the afternoon in the garden - deadheading, fixing etc.

I have had lunch
Cleaned under sinks in both bathrooms.
Looked under one bed.
Gotten back out of new outfit after taking a photo for dsis.
Dusted under fridge & stove & china hutch for some bonus cleaning as I'm looking.
So I'm happy with my progress today yea for that.
Cut up some treats for ddoggo taco shell for ddoggo.

Did some cooking salmon corn on the cob & cucumber slices.
I've cleared off the bed and some clearing of counters etc.
Inside of microwave needs done next.

Twins', I hope you get to bestow some happiness on someone else through letting your extra supplies go.

A comfortable chair - yes, I'm so glad we bought the cozy upholstered one that has colors that go with our rather boxy LR set. Graceful lines and old-fashioned, it gives a more welcoming look to all the straight lines, especially because of throw pillows - one round - on the other pieces. Sigh, we don't use that room enough, but maybe later.

Cathy, do you do needlework that works for throw pillows? I see such eye-catching ones on the period-piece mysteries from BBC, for instance, and they add so much to the visual. Perhaps they are needlepoint, though. I imagine if it's less sturdy it's very like my reasons for not using my own work on pillows - wear and tear of seating use can be pretty rough on stitching.

Otherwise, my dmother's 67-year-old wing-back chair remains perfect in the den. Sturdy to a fault, we all gravitate toward it.

We are experimenting quite a bit with quick uses for the air-fryer. Veggie patties, hot dogs, nuggets to add to the spring rolls and fries. HRH just loves it.

I have an ironing board kinda like that, Cathy. Mine blocks access to a tall cabinet that stores out of use clothing (too small but sentimental, etc) and papers from college, old bank registers, etc.) My ironing board is piled mostly with books that need to be stored elsewhere and a lot of papers that pertain to organization... I just realized how ridiculous that sounds.

Anyway -- Sunday was good but I'm glad it is over. Got to church at 9:30 to help set up for the Homecoming service.
10:30 -- went to preaching, but left early with other ladies from Sunday School class to make last minute preparations.
12:00 (church is supposed to be over at 11:30) service was over and people began coming in to eat. We had 150 in attendance, but some left without staying for the meal.
1:30 -- dgd cried to come home with me, but I still had to help with clean-up at church and ddil didn't want to give in to her tears, saying she had already been showing some attitude and needed to go on home. Both dgrands went home with ddil.
2:00/2:30? -- finally home. No cucumber slices, but I did take a good nap.

Took garbage to the road, but other Sunday tasks have been completely out of sight/out of mind today.

During church, I received text messages from dcousin, re: duncle who was taken to the hospital last night around midnight. He was having seizures, which is not uncommon for him. They have done CT and MRI and expect to send him back to his assisted living facility tomorrow. I hate that dcousin has to do so much for this uncle, but she does have her husband to help her, and she said they came home when ICU visiting hours were up and she would take her mom over there when they went back this morning.

DGS has a ballgame tomorrow night and ds has asked me to pick them up at 4:30. Before that time, I hope I will get some more painting done, and laundry.

I am considering buying an air fryer. However, just yesterday I ordered a crock pot (half price at Target) mainly because I want to be able to cook roasts in it. DDIL uses hers for that and makes such a good pot roast. It was only $25.
I also ordered myself several items from Belk to replace some worn-out clothing in my wardrobe. (Dmom recently asked, "How long have you had that shirt?" ) I am spending birthday money that I do not have yet, LOL.
AND I had to transfer some of my "hidden" savings from the back of my checkbook into the main part to take care of this month's bills. I am trying to console myself that it WAS an unusual month... $800 for the radiator and water pump, almost a $1000 to the carpenter for two days work (one which included two other men) $700 for home owners insurance... as ds says, these are not things that will come up again next month. Maybe I can get back on track. That's why I'm putting this money aside anyway, right? So that these sorts of unexpected things won't send me begging my dmom to loan me some. If dh were living, we'd have more money & we wouldn't have spent the money on the house, but we'd be spending a lot on football weekends coming up soon, and personally, I'm glad to have the house stuff done. DGS and I ate at home last night, and I haven't paid for anything I've eaten today, so that's a win. (I did spend about $20 on rolls for the church dinner, but that's less than a meal for one of the dgrands and myself.)
