Dealing with DBD's meltdown, because she forgot a book with homework, and eventhough I did find it online and printed it (I know from the past that there's a 30 day free trial on every book in that line), she thinks the homework was something else. I've been doing cuddles and all that jazz, but it's gonna be a long afternoon!

What is a sludge container, Dogged?

I think a sludge container is a symptom of overthinking, trissie. You know when you are trying to throw away the remains of jar in the fridge, or the remains of stew, etc.? You don't want to try to rinse it down the drain, because it's going to block the pipes. If it makes it into the city pipes, it will join the fat ball that will eventually block everyone's pipes and cost a lot cut up and extract. But mostly you don't want to face Maintenance if you are discovered to be the tenant who has blocked the pipes. You don't want to just pour it into the garbage, because it's going to get more liquid as it is out of the fridge now, and you don't want old liquid food splattering on someone if the bag breaks. You don't want to freeze it and then put it out as our city has specifically told us to cut that out. Not surprisingly, I get a build up of old containers with a little bit of something that needs to be thrown out. I nominate one recyclable container as the sludge container. Today, I am sacrificing a plastic nuts jar (which probably won't actually be recycled where I live) in order to save all of the glass jars that can actually be recycled. I cleaned out the jar of peaches that had just one half peach in the bottom for so long that I wasn't sure if it was safe to eat. I still have two or three pickle jars sitting on the counter with their garlic and dill waiting at the bottom, there's a very old jam jar in the fridge waiting to be cleaned out and I'm plenty of surprises lurking in the fridge. Once I start a sludge jar, I clean everything out, rinse the jars and then leave them cluttering up my counter until they are dry enough to go into the recycling bag to take downstairs. Where I add it to the bin full of totally inappropriate things that my neighbours have thrown into the recycling bin. We do our part and accept that we can't control everybody else's...
