Interesting to hear the different funeral customs! I've been to a variety here and 2 in the Netherlands, dh's parents. I coordinated my father's funeral with the help of the pastor and am now doing my mother's by myself -- and I had to do both from afar. When my father passed, I was out of the country, in the middle of a 4 month sabbatical in Israel. We needed time to travel back to the USA to bury him. We had the memorial service 2 months later when we were done with our stint in Israel and ds in WA state and family in KS could travel to IL. For my mom, she needs to be transported back to IL. The funeral home is doing that. Ds + F will fly in from WA state; it's unclear if a cousin or two will come from Kansas. We will obviously drive down from MI. It feels like we're getting things set up very quickly - within 2 weeks; everyone has busy complicated schedules I'm trying to work with. I can't imagine doing this all within a couple days. Maybe if I had some help and everyone was local, I could do that.

Visitation just made it all too complicated, so we are not doing that, and the church did not mention that as an option either. Dad was found a couple days after he passed, so no open casket for him. My mother looked horrible at the end. I'd rather remember her as she looked when she was healthier.

Kitty, in the NL, the order for both dh's parents' services was: memorial service at the church, crematorium service, and then wake. For my father, the burial service was separate from the memorial service by 2 months because we were living in Israel at the time. For my mom, the order will be: burial service, memorial service, and then reception/ wake. If we did the burial service after the memorial service, I think we would lose half or most of the guests before the wake. . .and I'm anticipating there won't be many guests as it is. The cemetery is out in the countryside, and I don't think the elderly will make their way out there. --Glad you are enjoying time on your patio! That's nice that you could have a visit with C.
Interesting Catholic customs, L Ann. You're getting a lot of rain. Could you walk outside?
Hope you got a good night's sleep, lucylee. In some cases, like my father's, an open casket is not an appropriate option. I do find them a little creepy.
Wow, trissie, yes, I'm also impressed by Gaia's multilingual abilities!
Sounds like you avoided lava last night, Doggedly. Was it decaf coffee since you went to sleep afterward?

Yesterday, we got a date and time for the services, so I can now call the caterer and spread the word. Dh and I looked at bnbs for our family this morning, and I've booked one.

β˜€οΈGood morning!
It’s another beautiful day here. 3 deer in the yard when I let the dogs out, 2 looked a little smaller, so maybe a mom and babies? Hunting season starts soon so I wish they would all hide in my yard. 8-) Which reminds me I was going to order and plant some clover seed for them.

I never know what sort of chat I will find when I sign on lol. I’ve learned funerals can be very customizable.

Trissie, thanks for the start. I too am impressed with being able to learn so many languages. In high school that was a goal of mine and I have barely managed to speak my own since then, sadly. My kids will throw new words (slang) at me all the time and it’s hard to keep up.

Kittykatt, I can remember when my Tux was diagnosed with kidney disease and I was scared to death. Your calm sharing of information kept me from a lot of worry. Thank you so much. And thanks for the funeral information. It does seem like a lot of traditions are fading away.

Hi, Lucylee. Cheers to finished laundry.

Hi LAnn. I’m hungry so all I keep seeing is β€œbreakfast” in your post lol.

Doggedly, coffee and a nap, of course, makes perfect sense. ;) Hope Germane is fast asleep and you are too.

Helia, I remember when all of that was going on with your father. Are the temps there usually cooler now? We are low 90s daytime/high 60s at night here right now, low humidity, and I’m loving it.

More of the same here. I’m nailing the cleaning part pretty much, I seem to be stuck on the decluttering. So today’s goals are laundry and declutter in every room, plus my car. It has empty boxes that need to go to mom’s as well as some wood pieces we picked up out of a trash pile ( a perfectly good tree and a pumpkin made out of wood boards). Didn’t need it but hated to see it go to the dump so I’ll find a use for it or give them to the girls to use.
Dd1 has decided Mississippi is not for her so she is moving in with dd2 in Alabama. They can share rent and I am comforted knowing they will keep an eye out for each other. They’re still far from me (about a 4 hour drive) so I’ll take what I can get. At least visits will be easier than going in opposite directions to see just one dd like it is now.

Done:
Up
Weigh
Bible

Do:
Send birthday wishes to db and his wife
Get dressed
Bathroom - wipe counter and sink, clean toilet, scoop litter, collect trash
Order clover

Hi all. Yes there are so many different ways of doing funerals. Most of the ones we've done for grandparents have been within the week. Many do it months later. I have a coworker who's mom said she did not want them to do one for her. So they didn't. I don't know if dad did what he said but he was going to go to the village and pay for plots for him and mom as he does not want cremation. Ok well we know that. Good. One less thing to think about.

I'm very happy my pets are all in fairy stable condition atm meaning less treasure hunts and smells. Not always the case.

I should get up and do something. Yesterday I did an error on my schedule and overlooked the late shift written in. I could have refused but on my bad and I didn't discover it till it was too late to go home. I worked 8 till 6. Long shift. Oh well. I won't do that very often but it left them with 2 at days end if I wouldn't have stayed. Home and ds had started supper. A Casper walk that ended just at dark. Gonna have to get used to dark walk or do it different. It keeps getting earlier.

Today I am driving almost 2 hours for a post gc surgery check up. I just want to know it all stayed where it should have. It's at noon so I think I will leave after getting gas when I drop ds off at school. There's a few stores in that town I would like to check out. The appointment will probably not take long. Oh wait I should maybe see if I should check on a couple parts for dad's rv as well?

I need to get in the shower and do some routines. Then maybe see what the weather is when I get back. Can I stain my shelving outside. ... and organized maybe some garden stuff.

At least I'm making progress on my health goals.

Shower
S&s both baths and reboot laundry
Tidy laundry room and master bedroom some

Empty and reload dw
Finish tidying kitchen all the way
Pick up a few footprints
Eat something
School run
Gas car
Drive
Appointment
Shopping
Rv sales for parts ???

Good afternoon to euro-SHEs, and good morning to New Continent SHEs! I'll try personal posts later, but consider yourself greeted and hugged as needed!

The show yesterday was... fine, I guess? It's kind of a cultural phenomena here, if you wanna learn more, you can google "Jara Cimrman" - it's like if Monty Python had all their sketches based around a single fictional person. Same kind of humor, a satirical, intellectual comedy and all that jazz. It's very Czech, everybody knows the quotes... but I'm just not too much into comedy, it seems. It did make me smile or even laugh a couple times, but it was funnier when I was younger (I did see two of their shows live). But DH had never seen them on stage and we got the tickets for free from my bank customer program (they are pretty impossible to get, think Black Friday US mall type of camping queue the night before next month's tickets go for sale), so we went. The kids and my mom managed just fine in our absence :-)

I am home from work and I've already dropped off DBD at her scout session. Need to get going again, it's 5:15 and there's so much to do!

TaDas
. morning madness
- day at work
- return books to library and pick new ones
- pick up DBD at school
- ready her scout stuff
- drive DBD to scout session

ToDos

- clean upstairs bathroom

Good morning, all. Thank you for starting us off, trissie. I hadn't heard of that actress, but she seems very impressive.

Even if it was strategy on his part, I think that we can say that your vet has earned his break, Kittykatt.

lucylee, I hope that you are having a good sleep.

L.Ann, I feel like I have sprung out of bed in the middle of night, and you already have such a full list of accomplishments. WTG!

I heard Germane stumbling around so I jumped out of bed to guide her until she seemed to know what she was doing. I had a cup of coffee while I waited for her to settle somewhere. She has done her business and eaten well, and taken herself off to sleep in the bathroom now so I can go back to bed.

Woke up to dog stumbling around, turned on light and put her on pee pads

Gave dog a probiotic with a plateful of food
