Gaia Weiss (born 30 August 1991) is a French actress and model. Her filmography includes Mary Queen of Scots (2013), Vikings (2014–2015), Alien: Containment (2019), Meander (2020), La Révolution (2020), and Shepherd (2021).
Weiss was born in Paris, France, to parents Catherine and Alain Weiss. She has a brother named Auriel Weiss. Good morning Trissie and thank you for starting us off. I hope you enjoyed the theatre last night - you deserved a treat!
Dogged, Freddie has his arthritis injection every 4 weeks, so it's easy for "his" vet to calculate when the next visit is due. I think he had either already booked his leave or was about to, as when we were discussing yesterday's appointment back in August, and I asked if it would be possible to clip Fred's nails, he just said, "of course we can," as if it was the easiest thing in the world, which indictates to me that he had at least made tentative plans not to be at work on that date
Adding to the discussion on funeral customs, funerals over here often take quite a lot longer to sort out and book. It all depends on what the deceased requested, and also if there has to be an inquest, which can delay things a lot. Also many people opt for cremation, which can slow things down, as the crematorium can get very booked up. Traditionally, the format was church service (possibly a full requiem mass, or more likely, a simpler thanksgiving service) followed by burial/ cremation , followed by a wake. But today, it's more common to have the cremation first (attended just by immediate family) then a service of Thanksgiving at the church for everyone, followed by the wake, either refreshments at the back of church, or at a nearby hotel. And, or course, with the rise of *pure cremations " have just a no fuss cremation with no service, usually followed by a party (although I am reliably informed that even if no one turns up to the cremation, the priest who's in attendance at the crematorium that week, will always say a prayer over the coffin.)
Visitation isn't common any more down here, although it is more so up north, where traditionally, the deceased might be laid out in the dining table, or in the front room. Nowadays, it's more usual for the funeral director to collect the body from hospital /home, depending where the deceased passed away. Another custom which seems to have died out is the habit of leaving the curtains in the house only half drawn back during the daytime, from the date of death until after the funeral
As to funeral attire, that varies. For some, it's still traditional black. For others the family make a point of requesting bright colours.
Traditionally, a period of mourning would have been observed by the family, where everyone wore black (the length or mourning depended on the connection to the deceased. For a spouse, it would be 6 months full mourning, followed by a period of half mourning, with lighter fabrics eg grey and purple creeping in.) Some women, especially if they belonged to large families, may have adopted black as their everyday attire, as they felt it was more economical than always having to commission a whole new wardrobe each time they had to "go into mourning". The fact that some of these ladies look stunning in black did not, of course (officially!) have any bearing on this decision!
Also, as many churchyards and cemeteries are getting full, some people are opting for a woodland burial these days, which may, or may not, be held in the same day as the funeral service and wake. Oh, and for any type of service, the coffin would be closed. It's very I interesting how different places have different customs!
Freddie ate 4 pouches of GI meat yesterday, a little at a time,
but refused his biscuit . I did manage to get his evening meds into him. I'm waiting for the vet to ring (hopefully today, but maybe not until tomorrow or even Friday) with his lab results. I have a sneaking suspicion that they suspect very early kidney disease, as it's incredibly common in older cats. Fred is in the right age group, and although he's "only" 12, by the time cats reach 15 years it's estimated that 80% will have kidney disease. (Sigh). However, a quick look at Cornell University and the IRIS site last night showed that treatment has moved on a lot since our DDeparted Andie was diagnosed , over 14 years ago . Apparently now cats' blood pressure is very important. Having watched a video of a very compliant cat having his blood pressure taken, I'm intrigued as to how anyone is going to manage this with Freddie!
Other things on the agenda today - visit C tho morning, pick up her shopping list and have coffee with her. I think I it's supposed to rain today, so it will be a good opportunity to do things round the house. I managed a tiny bit of spring cleaning in the sitting room yesterday, so maybe I can build on that? And the kitchen needs its weekly clean. But first, I need to find a piece of bubble wrap for DH before he leaves for work. (No, I've no idea why, either!)

That is interesting, Kittykat. (For those who haven't seen the last post on yesterday -- I was sharing funeral customs here in the southern USA.)
BTW -- the food thing is definitely a part of our traditions too -- people started bringing food to my house as soon as they heard the news and that went on till at least the day of the funeral, plus the ladies at our church put together a meal for all of us, extended family (around 40 of us) as well, after the burial. That is the usual way of things around here.
Cremations are becoming more common. When I was growing up, I didn't know anyone who had been cremated, but I've been to at least 3 services since I've been an adult where the deceased person was cremated, and I have heard more of my peers say they are considering it.
It is 1:13 a.m. here in the CST... DGS has been asleep a good while and I don't know why I am still up, but I have to get some wet clothes hung up to dry. I tumble my clothes in the dryer for 5-10 minutes to get the wrinkles out and then I hang them on regular clothes hangers in the doorway of the closet till they finish drying. I had a pretty busy day but I did get the laundry done.

Laundry is always a good, worthwhile achievement, LucyLee. It's 7.30 am BST here, do you could say you were an early riser!
I think the rise in cremation here is partly due to physical lack of space,and also due to grave robbers, with many bodies being stolen and then sold on to medical researchers (if you're interested, Google Burke and Hare). At the time, it was really the only way to determine how blood circulated round the body, for instance, but relatives were I understandably angry and distressed when this kind of thing happened.
Well, I have achieved today. I have found the bubble wrap for DH!!

Quick funeral talk. If we were doing a large service we would have had it right away but since we are doing family only to place the cremation urn we chose a date that worked for my sister and me. Our county has a very regional…. County only custom. We have visitation usually the day before. Towards the end of visitation there is usually “prayers” which is a short service of scriptures and prayers led by a clergy member. It isn’t a custom I. The county I was raised in or in the neighboring county my mom lived in. My county is the place where the original Maryland county was established by Catholics so I don’t know if that was the origin or not. It is a custom observed by most people who have services here regardless of church affiliation.
I am waiting for it to get light enough to see whether walking outside is possible or if it is raining too hard.

Extra Stuff- work on last Shutterfly book, fix dress for DD32’s dance- cut for length and pin
Little Errands-drop off DM’s driver’s license, send email and documentation to delete DM’s Facebook accounts, bank$ for priest at funeral, fax stuff to last place for estate stuff
Phone calls-lunch place for day of funeral

I am waiting for it to get light enough to see whether walking outside is possible or if it is raining too hard.

L.Ann, I feel like I have sprung out of bed in the middle of night, and you already have such a full list of accomplishments. WTG!
I heard Germane stumbling around so I jumped out of bed to guide her until she seemed to know what she was doing. I had a cup of coffee while I waited for her to settle somewhere. She has done her business and eaten well, and taken herself off to sleep in the bathroom now so I can go back to bed.

L.Ann, I hope the weather cooperates for your walk.
Dogged, vet D has definitely earned a break from giving Fred his injection each month. Every four weeks he carries a spitting, snarling swearing carrier out to the back office , tells everyone, "Don't touch the cat!" gives Fred his injection and then brings him back out to me, still spitting,.snarling and swearing. People who have witnessed this are quite impressed by this performance, and tell me that Fred never stops! Fortunately yesterday's vet was conscientious and listened (despite Fred's background rumblings) so she was forewarned. We've had a couple of vets in the past who thought they would be able to "understand" Freddie, ... and paid the price.
This morning we have so far escaped many more rain, and I have had a quick dust and hoover upstairs before going to visit C. C is obviously very happy to have a new "audience" and talked non stop the whole time I was there. Still I had 2 cups of coffee and some very good shortbread, we've done her shopping list (I'm just adding it to mine) and I found the hymn book for her that she wanted (in one of her crates of books that are supposed to be going for donation. I've done a little in my garden, and I'm sitting on my patio , out of the wind and in the sun.
