I get the James Clear email each week, too, Twins. He usually has something that really hits me, something I need to hear. Like your note today:
You don't need all the answers right now. New paths will reveal themselves if you have the courage to get started."
I don't have a lot of courage right now.
I did "just get started" this morning. (Well, it was 11:00 a.m. but I was in the shower by 11:20, and I got dressed, did my Bible reading, some floor stretches/exercises, and got myself out of the house.
Had to go to both banks, dmom's to deposit her renter's check, mine to sign some church paperwork.
Went to Wmart, got cookies for tonight, and a CuddlDuds type shirt (which would have been better had I bought the XL, but the L was okay -- and I did NOT get too cold at the parade.I also bought some candy for dgrands' stockings. (I still like to do stockings for all of them.)
PIcked up the kids after school and DGS announced that he was not going to the parade if he had to stand outside in the cold. Told him that was fine and took him home. DGD pouted about having to wear a coat over her sweatshirt, and actually refused to put her coat on at the parade. Talk about two kids being as different as daylight and dark! She claims she does not get cold. (I did succeed in getting her to put on socks with her Crocs.) SMH.
She and I ate at Subway before we went to the church, where she enjoyed playing with the pastor's grandson and a few other friends, and I passed out cookies for two hours. THEN the parade, which was another hour, and I promise you, my feet were killing me when we got home.
She had her bath, talked to DS on the phone, and is sound asleep now.
I've been scrolling on FB and actually talking to ChatGTP... "he" has given me a shopping list and a step by step time frame for cooking family Christmas breakfast (which will be more like an early supper.) I talked to dmom today and asked if she would come and supervise if I did the cooking. Of course she is willing to do that, and I * think * I want to do this... but it makes me nervous and I have actually been sitting here crying. I'm just afraid it's going to be a disappointment and DS will wish we had gone to Cracker Barrel. My dmom's Christmas breakfast was by far dh's favorite meal of the year, and I think it is the same for DS.
I just don't know if I'm taking on too much responsibility. It's just so difficult to have everything come out right and stay hot, you know? OTOH, dmom IS here to oversee my efforts, so how can I mess up? I just always feel really incompetent in the kitchen.
And I guess I just sorta dread Christmas... and all dh's traditions are being messed up -- eating Christmas Eve at dbil's this year (and DS just HOPES we will still have our traditional BBQ pork meal.) Then dmom has given up breakfast... and I may mess that up entirely.
Of course, I sat and cried at dmom's last year, worrying about that biopsy, and thinking about how much dh loved eating there for Christmas.
OTOH... the teddy bear lady sent me pictures; my bears are completed and I am going to pick them up Monday, since I'll have the dgrands with me most of the weekend. I told her to save me the scraps from the shirts, I might use some of them for Christmas ornaments. I need to look at Pintrest.
I've just been really emotional the last couple days.
You'd be surprised how much effort and thinking went in to such a simple decision, lol.
Obviously, this does not surprise me, Harriet.
I also appreciate the reassurances that dgrands' will not forget dh, although dgd's answer to almost any question is, "I dunno."
Tonight, she was talking about her dentist, who was watching the parade with us, and collection a LOT of chocolate candy. She said (to me, later) "Dr. S tells me not to eat too much candy, but he was getting a lot of candy himself." LOL. I asked her if she remembered how Granddaddy always wanted to pick up all the candy he could. She said, "I dunno."
I loved hearing about the toast "soldiers," KittyKat! That is so neat!
Mystery, I had all four of my grandparents until I was almost 30. DS was in first grade when two of them passed, 14 when one passed, and in college when the last one died. He doesn't have really good memories of the first two, but that is partly because they were both sick his entire life, and he didn't spend a lot of time with them. But I know DGS will remember dh. DH lost his grandfather at approximately the same age, and he had sooo many
memories. HIs grandfather was one of the most important people in his life. It may be that DGD's memories aren't as clear, but I will do all I can to keep him "alive" in her memories. Not too long ago she was doing some sort of exercise and I asked her where she learned that. She said, "Granddaddy taught me." (It was some sort of warm-up his football players used to do.) As you can see, it is not hard for me to talk about dh -- I have constantly been changing my verbs here from present to past tense.
Cathy, I'm so sorry you and dh had such a hard night. (((HUGS))) I'm praying tonight is better for you both.
I definitely move things from Friday to next week, because it is hard to do things with the dgrands underfoot -- unless it is something they WANT to do -- DGS was very helpful with the decorations last weekend.
Blessed -- it sounds so exciting to have the builders getting their things done and a landscape person coming to do the yard... I'm almost envious! I know it is going to look so nice when everyone is finished. I am sorry about your ddaughters having such a problem with your dbro, but maybe they just need a little more time to see if they can trust him to be polite and kind to all of you. I am praying for these family relationships.
Mystery, I'm glad you got that muffler fixed. Reminds me of my mid-life crisis Camaro. Embarrassingly loud is putting it mildly.
Twins -- how did the wedding go? Were you warm enough? One of the girls in the parade had on a dress that had a completely open back. I know she had to be freezing! Our weather has been the same... either it is raining or it looks like it could again any minute. I don't really mind, but it does seem awfully cold.
telling his mother on the phone he was sitting up in bed with soldiers,
LOL, Harriet!
I hope you have a good night, too, Nancy! No bs problems!
LadyM -- WTG on managing all the appointments this week! You definitely have a LOT on your plate. I hope your teens jumped into the decorating chore happily.
Well, I have three newspapers piled up here that I need to read... three novels I have started (and there may be another I'm not thinking of right now) ... one self-help/Bible study book I started... Christmas cards less than half-way completed... NOTHING wrapped... several gifts I need to decide on and purchase... and dishes in the sink. No wonder I want to cry.
I hope you all have a happy Saturday! I plan to wake up with a better attitude.
