Hi!

I'm tired. Late night baseball game on TV last night. Middle of the day, very long baseball game this afternoon. (No nap time!)

I didn't realize that some people have such a hard time reading a book. I read every single day and I have since I was a young child. (under the age of 10) I discovered Black Beauty on a book shelf in the basement of the house we lived in at the time and then The Prince and the Pauper, and then Nancy Drew... I was hooked! I love to read at night before I fall asleep. I used to be the one with a flashlight under the covers. I have newer copies of Black Beauty, The Prince and The Pauper and a bunch of Nancy Drew books in my library, along with "that" bookcase. My dad kept it in the basement of the house he lived in after the other house and after he died, I took that bookcase and now it's here with me.

As a kid, I read some things that were probably not age appropriate because they were on the family bookshelf (probably pre-kids for dmom) and I just loved to read anything that was available. My dh falls asleep reading a book, unless he's at the beach where somehow he plows through.

I'm glad you like the quote, Lucylee. I write a lot here about "fresh start" - the Jewish New Year, the calendar new year, what was for so many years the back-to*school new year. And of course, I feel like I start over and planning to somehow do better every Sunday evening. BTW, yes, I remember this in the the P & P books:

I felt like I was in the middle of Pam & Peggy's mess, where they had a dozen things going at once, and I think they were in a kid's tent when the husband's boss arrived.

I think I remember that Peggy or Pam (whichever one it was) said that their mind was a "Random Idea Generator" that day. I think of that often when I'm scatterbrained.

And in reviewing posts, I think there's one downstairs that didn't get posted, lol. I'm trying to clear the stamping desk some, while resisting going down the stamping rabbit hole.

Oh so tired from workout. A good tired, but yes, tired. Car was registering 99 degrees out on the way home. I added some "Liquid IV" powder to my water when I got home. I also took out the brisket out of the oven when I got home. So that's done.

Busy day tomorrow. I'm trying to figure it out. OMM for tomorrow:
10:30 vaccinations at CVS
11:00 pedicure
-take skirt and dress to be hemmed, need back in a week
-drop off checks at construction company for completed work (remember to get them from upstairs)
-contact dog sitter about getting together this weekend sometime (high in upper nineties Saturday and Sunday, Monday cooler, very small chance of rain)
-What else? I know there's a lot!

Back from dropping DD15 off at the fairgrounds to work in the class booth. I'll go back and pick her up in a couple of hours. If it wasn't so hot, I would enjoy staying and taking in all the activity. It is 105F today and this is DH second full day on new meds which side effect say dizzy and loss of balance. Maybe we can hang out there another time.

I have always been an avid reader until we adopted the grandkids. Before the last 18 years, I would read 1 or even 2 books a day by carrying a book with me everywhere I went and reading every spare moment. I read so many books that I couldn't keep up with all of them. After buying duplicates a few times I started keeping a notebook with author & book title of all the books I had read. I would go to bookstores and use the notebook to quickly select books that I haven't read and buy them a dozen or so at a time. The kids grew up and were not so time intensive but then social media became so popular, and I gave it too much time instead of reclaiming my reading time.

Twins - Thank you. This forum has been doing some weird things the last couple of hours. I know other internet places have experience problems today so I assume it is trickle down from that.

DDIL & DS gave me a book for my birthday -- LOL -- she said "It's not really part of your present, because I want to read it when you finish."
They also gave me a 52-week Bible study book and another devotional book -- and of course, the pizza and cake were part of my gifts from them.
Dbil & dsisil gave me a gift card. I don't know how much it's for, LOL!!! I didn't have my glasses on when I was opening presents. (I just went and looked; $50. The book is Remarkably Bright Creatures, by Shelby Van Pelt. I haven't heard of it, but dsisil said it was a Netflix movie; I think she said with Sally Field. A woman's husband dies and she starts working at a local aquarium. Her son has disappeared over 30 years ago. She apparently forms a "friendship" with an OCTUPUS -- I'm reading from the back of the book, y'all... and somehow this helps her uncover the mystery of her son's disappearance. Hmmm... well. I'll let y'all know how this goes.

Party was nice, no troublesome talk about the Corvette... everyone was happy... dmom is having problems getting up and down my steps, but with ds and ddil to help, she made it.

Stomach is still not doing well, but thanks to Imodium, bathroom has gotten a rest for a little while.

They all seemed to think my yard looks much better with no fences. I'll be glad when the posts are finally gone, but I don't expect the man until the weekend at least. It depends upon when he can borrow a tractor.

Oh -- Twins -- reading things that are not age-appropriate! I think I've told y'all this before. My reading level vastly exceeded my maturity in my childhood. I read a lot of magazines while I was at the beauty shop with my paternal grandmother. I read about a school bus getting hit by a train, and the one that REALLY freaked me out -- the heiress who was kidnapped in Florida and held captive in an UNDERGROUND BOX!!! (This was not Patty Hearst; it was before her, I'm pretty sure.) She had a very small amount of air, and maybe a flashlight, but she knew she had to conserve the light so the battery wouldn't run down. It was horrifying and I couldn't get it off my mind for a LONG time. (Obviously, it is still pretty vivid.) I believe these were in the magazine, Ingenue. Thank goodness they didn't have the racy love story magazines like True Story, etc. They may have, actually, but someone kept me out of them!

LucyLee, I'm glad you enjoyed your birthday party. It's strange how events that are supposed to be special and celebrating us as individuals, are often something of an ordeal.

I was also a very advanced and "omnivorous" reader from an early age, but no one ever policed my reading. My mother didn't approve of Enid Blyton (apparently she didn't write very correct English? IDK) , but I wasn't forbidden to read her. OTOH, no one ever said anything about me reading Forever Amber at the age of 12, closely followed by Princess Daisy at the age of 13-14. (The latter certainly taught me all I needed to know about biology, relationships, consent and respect, which in retrospect was probably a good thing, as my school wasn't much help and my parents were very conservative. But even so...) It's made me ultra cautious when recommending books I enjoyed as a child to friends for their kids to read. Times and standards have changed, so I usually suggest they read through the book first!

I've been very interested by all the discussions about planners. I hope this isn't a silly question, but are they used alongside or instead of a calendar? (There was a phase over here in the UK for bullet journals a few years ago, but I stayed well away, as, although I'm sure.some people would have found them very helpful, I know I would have got carried away and spent too much time with the coloured pens, stickers etc and not enough time actually "doing"! After all, I am someone who has just got sidetracked watching a video on how to make snowflakes from cup cake cases. I have no idea if I will ever be called on to use this skill, but I now know how to do it!:lol: )
