Made some good progress on accounting.

Managed to force myself to sit still long enough to do the year end entries. They are done and it matches what the accountant said it should manage.

Then I worked out the payroll deductions, etc. for 2012 and updated my payroll spreadsheet.

Next challenge is to do the 2011 year-end income withholding tax filing with the government, write and send off the penalty cheque with a letter of explanation, and then phone the government to say I won't be paying any salary until March, therefore don't expect any more money from me until April. (Because I messed up last year, I may lose my privilege of filing quarterly. Since I won't know if I still have that privilege until later this month, I can't pay any payroll for Jan or Feb because I won't get a remittance form until after I leave.)

But first, get the sheets off the line because it is getting dark. Dh has started heating dinner.

I have stayed focused! I have
- gone to the groc. store
- put away groceries
- put a card in the mail
- done a lol
- some devo time; finished my last study so found a new one. We have several "empty" study books on our shelves. The new study seems very a propos for me.
- put away some towels
- made a large salad
- went with dh to jog along the river

Now, we're home. I'm going to change, gather salad + dressings, round up the troops, and head out the door to small group.

Wow! Y'all are being so productive, and I"m sitting here at work pretty much goofing off Of course, most of the rest of the staff are doing exactly the same, so Im NOT going to feel guilty!

I've been working with a little kitten here at the facility - she came in with about 25 other cats from a cat hoarding/house fire situation, and she's coming along quite well. However, her three littermates were scheduled to be transferred to the Humane Society tomorrow to go up for adoption. I spoke to the vet tech today, and expressed my concerns about their adoptability - they're almost as scared as little Sparkles is, She agreed that she had also noticed they were quite skittish, and was surprised that another vet tech had changed them from PTS to Transfer. So...yep...you guessed it...I'm taking all four home with me tonight, and will be fostering them for a local feral cat rescue who is also taking the majority of the other cats from that situation. How DO I end up taking them all home?!?!? On the slightly brighter side, however, the two kittens I thought I'd be picking up next week will be recovering from their spay/neuter/hernia surgeries at the vet clinic, and will likely go straight to the pet store instead of coming to my place for a few days. Two of the three kittens I have will be gone in about 3 weeks.....this is rather like a revolving door, isn't it?

When I get home tonight, I'll get the new babies settled in, turn on the TV in their room to help them get used to the sound of voices (they're not feral, just very scared and uncertain about trusting people), and maybe even do some crocheting...or sewing...or housework....or writing...or garden planning...or catch up on some email stuff I've been meaning to deal with. No wonder I prefer being at work most days.....I'm busier at home than I am here!

Home from Atlanta - we couldn't get ds on the phone (he was sleeping very late!) and we went to IKEA near the GA Tech campus for a walk-through before he called us back. We picked him up and took him to Cheesecake factory for a late lunch for us (breakfast for him?) We brought back a chair and rug from his room - he's not using them and wanted them out. Brought back cheesecake for the three of us at home (dd is here this weekend) but I'm too full still to consider it. Bought ds cheesecake to take back to dorm for sharing.

It was great to see ds, especially before tax season starts up, and I'm so glad he had lunch with us and we got to visit a little. We are perplexed by situation with his roommate - ds and roommate hardly spoke the first semester, just occupied the same space. Ds says that roommate often sleeps in another guy's room now - he hangs out there and just ends up sleeping there. Wishing ds had more social skills....

Making progress on paperwork. Focusing on 2011 medical transactions. I think LO and mine are all done, but still have a stack of DH medical visits to process. Once I get all the paperwork processed I can review to make sure everything tax related (travel miles, tolls, $$ we paid, etc) is captured.

Several tax papers arrived this week - I guess some organizations waited until the last day to mail them. I've been collecting them in a box and will start the review process for those papers soon.

I will be VERY happy if I have everything to CPA by end of Feb. I'm in awe of how organized several of you are and have your tax tasks completed already. Very inspirational!

OKay I hope you aren't including me in your tax organization kudos. I'm the employer so have to get the filings done. And our year-end is March so those entries I made were 7 months in my hands before I processed them.

Dh got a call from our Montreal friend before dinner so I listened in on that while folding the laundry. Then dinner and then I spent 30 minutes refilling my toiletry containers. I have a couple that I'm not sure what they are. Others are labeled. I think I have enough face creams for 35 days but am not sure. I know I have enough shampoo and conditioner and if not, the ship's toiletries are very nice. I need more sunscreen and last, long, cruise, I brought my L ubriderm with sunscreen (which is my daily face cream) and used it as my body lotion all the time, plus extra sunscreen if I was out in the sun on purpose. I might do the same again if I have room in my suitcase.

I'm getting twitchy about packing now but will wait another 2 days before doing a trial run.

Only 5 more sleeps in my own bed.

I'm going to try and write the tax letter now so I can get that in the outgoing mail pile.

But now we've eaten supper and I am going to make a concentrated effort to grade as much as possible before we leave for a movie later.

I've written the tax letter but think I might wait until Monday to print it off. It occurs to me that it takes 7 days for the payment at the bank to be credited to my account. That means the government got my money on Feb. 1. After a few days, they'll have figured out what I owe and mail me a notice. I won't have the notice until after I leave but they should be able to tell me what I owe over the phone and then I can send in the exact amount, not a guesstimate.

So I'll call again on Monday and see if they have a number for me. If not, I'll go with my estimate.

Payroll taxes are a chore, aren't they, Kathryn? I try to do all of mine to the penny so I don't get interest/penalties tacked on. Not always successful but I try. I wonder if Canada's are any more complicated than ours.

My CPA caught me on my cell while I was out shopping. We are getting a refund and also letting the IRS keep some toward next year's taxes. Better than having to pay, but still, the economics in our industry are just the pits.

I did another statement and a proposal. I sorted today's mail and reconciled a bank account. We are ready to close that account now. They charged me a fee because I didn't leave enough in there when I transferred some to the new bank. I thought it was a different figure but found they were right when I got out my information and checked. I'll be so glad to get rid of this bank.

Tomorrow's an early day at church so I can help with communion.

We had our fire outside tonight. Our helper came by and sat with us for a while. It was nice, but it's hard for me to sit still out there, I always want to come in and get to working on something.

bittersweet, how? Because you have a way with animals and they can sense that they are in good hands with you. Not everyone can do what you do. From my standpoint, they are very lucky to end up under your care.
