68* here today now and pouring down rain so it's very humid like being in a coastal place here this afternoon. The baby has left she loved the activity books I found at a yd. sale for her this weekend.

Looks like we are doing the forth here with family over so I need to be thinking about getting ready for that.

Drat the place we wanted to stay closed so we had to go to the fav. one it's closer any way so that is good diff. weekend but no problem w/ that.

Dinner is done.

We are supposed to get more storms tonight, but are having a break now.

Bad storms all day so the computer has been mostly off. I took a risk early afternoon when it was quiet for a short while to answer a few Emails and check in here. Had just enough time to read J&C and PWYC but before I could write anything, the thunder came back. Ended up in the basement for half an hour or so after the tornado siren blew.

I'm thankful that the really bad stuff stayed well south of us. And although the power clicked off once, it came right back on.

I'm trying to do a couple of loads of laundry tonight to stay caught up. Wish I could do more with the computer, but think I'd better finish up quickly and shut everything down again.

Stay safe, everyone!

Harmony, yes, that is a good point about the work and stress involved prepping for guests. It is also true my dmom used to get very stressed about prepping for our visits. She has that tendency, and her stress makes her very cranky. For years, I would suggest that we stay in a hotel instead of their home when we visited, but she didn't like that. So, for many years, it was this way - she stressed about our visits while we would have preferred a hotel -- so she wouldn't be stressed + a hotel gives us more space on our own. Finally, we've gotten that switched around; we now stay in a hotel when we visit. And my dmom doesn't cook for us anymore. Either my dbro comes over and cooks (he likes to cook) or we sometimes bring food with us in a cooler, like a ham, a casserole, or we go out to eat. Or we bring in take out. All is good; whatever reduces her stress levels. Dmom does not like to travel, so dparents have visited us 5x total in the last 20 years, and once was a stop through for lunch as they were heading somewhere else. I feel that if we didn't visit them, we'd rarely see them. And they see the kids about 2x a year, sometimes less; last year, I think they saw dd15 and dh once. I sometimes go visit them on my own another time each year. I don't know how to keep seeing them and reduce the work and stress anymore than we already have. Maybe I'm missing something, though? It kind of is what it is right now - unless they'd just prefer not to see us at all, and I have to assume that is not so. . . .

Very generous of you and dd14 to share her with the other family as you are, Harriet.

((Dee and Mr. Dee)) I wonder what transpired after the call.

It was hot here today, upper 80s, but we're not as humid as many of you are.

TaDas!
x groc. list
x dh to work
x bank
x gas the van
x library
x groc. store
x pick up dh
x put away groceries
x nap for 25 minutes; didn't intend to
x make supper
x eat quickly
x puppy kindergarten. The puppies were all SO cute!! They're learning and doing well, too.

Dh and kids have cleaned the kitchen; dw is running. Notice my a.m. routine never quite got finished. that mainly means I never made my bed.

Not sure what I'll do with my evening. Maybe read?

(((Helia))) I'm so sorry you have these questions.

My productivity this evening consisted of giving myself a mani-pedi. Red toes, clear fingers. My fingernails are very long for me, a sign that I haven't been my usual active (read: clumsy) self so the nails haven't broken as I knock my hands on things.

Dh walked me for gelato after he got back from the movie. We had a nice chat with the owners while I ate my gelato. Unfortunately, we took the 'short cut' and I ended up 237 steps short of my 10K goal. Oh well.

Tomorrow we are driving and hour or more away to meet dd's godparents for lunch. They were trying to introduce me to the small town but I know it well - it is where my first dh's family were from and they have a cottage there. I haven't been for 26 years (dh and I took dd when she was a toddler to visit friends I had made in the community when visiting the cottage.) I'm looking forward to seeing how the town has changed over the past generation.
