Today's PODA -- I did sleep late, but when my alarm went off, I allowed myself one "snooze" button to check email and quickly see what y'all were up to, but not post, because I'm too long-winded.
Then, I began trying to get through my morning routine -- and get through some of the to-dos --
* floor stretching exercise and 15 min walk away the pounds
* called the monument place, dh's stone has not arrived yet, and no I do not have to send money until it is delivered to the cemetery
(I've paid about half, and I owe a little over $1000.)
* s2s, including washing hair and shaving legs, facial mask, and removed old nail polish
* talked to DS, DGS back to school today (also talked to DGS after school, he sounds good -- must have been a bad virus.)
* load of laundry in washer
* stripped the bed, put clean sheets on
* Bible/devotional reading
* kids clothes in dryer, sheets in washer
* errands --
-- insurance office, cancelled truck policy (they said $ would be credited to my account for next premium)
-- post office
-- bank, deposited truck money
-- drug store
-- Wmart
-- service station to get pizza for supper
* put away groceries
* flipped laundry
* ate supper
And here I am now, my first time on the computer since checking email this morning.
Twins' --
others -- does
anyone have any experience with something like this?
Talk with DS and bank was troublesome.
Dinlaws gave DS savings bonds every year till he started college, and I am pretty sure we spent all the principal value of ds' savings bonds
while he was in college... using our own money because with the bonds only 18 years old, they had not matured and dh didn't want to cash them in early. DH has kept records of all ds' college expenses, and later expenses, when he needed to borrow money from us for a major purpose -- heat unit needed to be replaced, etc. DH would take it out of the interest we owed DS. I should be able to decipher dh's records, although his handwriting is small and difficult to read. But he kept meticulous records, and he never told me that by ____ date, DS would be ahead and could receive the remaining bonds totally.
DH did not want to cheat DS out of anything his grandparents gave him, but likewise, dh wanted to recoup our own expenses, since the money WAS intended for college expenses.
Sooo... since DS graduated college, as the bonds matured, we have cashed them in and written DS a check for the interest. They have "DS
OR DH" names on them.
This worked fine until dh passed away.
This year, DS had to sign for the bond for the first time.
Sooo... DS gets a statement from the bank for the income of the bond, and he is a little ill that he is adding over $3000 to his income, when he has only seen $2000 interest, and that spread over the past 18 years. But I don't see any way around this... without me giving up the entire bond money to him, which means he will get double the amount of the remaining 12 or so bonds as they come due over the next six years. I don't want DS to feel bad about this, but I can definitely use the income as well. And ddil is making a very good salary now, so it's not like they desperately need it -- although DS does NOT want to be in a higher tax bracket.
He normally gets a refund, especially because he has two children as dependents. I, OTOH, generally have to pay taxes, and probably will have to pay more next year. Sigh.
I wonder if I could set up an estate account for dh and DS could transfer the $ to that... dbil just told me the other day that he had everything ready to close out dh's estate -- but when I asked how soon I had to do this, he said, "Well, you have to do it within 20 years. But I figured you'd want to get through with your taxes this year, in case anything else was coming due. Of course, would there be limits on what I used an estate account for?
My accountant may fire me,
Twins. This is a mess, isn't it?
Dmom of course, would be a great resource for me, and she just called on the phone. She worked in banking for probably 15-20 years, finishing her career there as a compliance officer, completed her accounting degree, and worked as accountant the next 15-20 years. But I couldn't ask her any questions just now -- after repeated bladder surgeries, when she has to go, she has to GO... and she didn't want to talk long, LOL. She just called to tell me to reschedule her foot doctor -- the doctor had to leave, sick himself, today and they want her to come Wednesday. She and I need to go to a funeral for her first cousin on Wednesday. So I am "free" tomorrow and will get that taken care of.
