I think people who want to "return" to traditional roles have a narrow view of what they actually were, or are looking at very narrow sections of history. I grew up in the 50s. My mom and her sister both had full time careers. One of my my dad's sisters worked full time. All my other aunts were in business with their husbands. I have exactly one friend who's mother never worked outside the home. My grandmothers (Born before 1900) one worked at the store with my grandfather, one was stopped from teaching once WW1 ended. She volunteered a big time commitment with a mental health charity. Still not at home.

Farming was such a big way of life at that time. I don't think farm women ever got to solely focus on children and house.

Hubby is home today. And I have not figured out how to be productive in that situation. Maybe you can relate kittykat

I’ve been experiencing a “tragedy of errors” or something Shakespearean like that lol … fell off a ladder, had a monster headache bordering on migraine with nausea, and caught the kitchen on fire since my last post. Everything is fine, not wanting to be dramatic, just explaining why I haven’t posted. I’ve been destroying my house, napping and avoiding my housework for far too long. (Kitchen is fine, just a little sticky from a bottle of pancake syrup and grocery bags that melted but I’m working on it, headache and body soreness all gone).
I hope you’re doing well and I promise to try to catch up once my routines are back on track.

Hi Peaches!
Love the historical perspective, Paige! My grandmother farmed her land well into her 60s and maybe even 70s. Her husband, my grandfather, died about 15 years before she did - and she just added his farm tasks, the heavy ones, onto her own workload. She was an amazingly strong hard-working independent woman, kind of like my mom. Have not heard of Hudson and Rex.
You're reminding me I have some bills to pay, Doggedly.
L Ann, yeah, I think some people do romanticize the past. I agree -- IMHO, the past was not a better life for all people in all areas. Besides gender roles, I also like our medical advances! Also, most African Americans I know do not romanticize the past. (We're attending an African American church now -- as a minority of white people.) I think I've learned - I can only get out jigsaw puzzles during vacation time.
Bama!! I'm glad you're OK. If you're laughing, it's A Comedy of Errors! Is your headache feeling better?

It looks like you have made a good recovery on your lost time due to the puzzle, helia. Hudson and Rex is a fun police show, set in St. John's, Newfoundland. Rex is a german shepherd police dog who solves the mystery, helped along by his coworkers.

Hello everyone!

WTG for all your chasing of accountability and product at work, Trissie!

WTG finishing the main jigsaw puzzle, Helian. I've always enjoyed doing them at friends houses, and at the retirement complex where DF E lives they have one set up in the residents lunge for anyone to have a go at. So I sometimes put in a couple of pieces. But it's not really a practical proposition at home with three cats! I think Freddie would probably sit right in the middle and refuse to move, Jude would chew on a piece that took her fancy, and Matilda would either just trash it, or run off with a piece and hide it!

Paige, during a "normal" week, DH is WFH three days and at the office for the other two. I have my weekly routine for cleaning various parts of the house on particular days, and I just get on and do it (he can always shut the spare room door if the hoover is too loud! )When he's off work, he's usually pretty social and out and about with his friends a lot. I use those times to do things when I do t want to be interrupted. He's a good cook, so if he's not working g.and.Im doing housework or the garden, he'll often cook lunch or supper. I do almost all the cat care, and I can't see that changing when he retires. (I did ask him whether he would like to take Freddie for his monthly injection, and the answer was a definite negative! ) I still haven't completely figured out how I'll manage when DH does retire,.bit I guess I'll learn it as I go.

You're getting lots done, L Ann. Do you find you get more done now Little Bit is at school for longer?

That's a very good idea to create some space before you do laundry, Dogged!

It's been a very good day. Not much done on the housework front, but I had a very successful time in the garden. As well as dealing with the honeysuckle, I weeded and deadheaded, neatened up the hedge, pruned 2 more roses, swept the patio, watered the pots and watered in the nematodes against vine weevil. So I'm pleased with the progress I've made out there.

LOL Kitty! You're right. Doing a jigsaw puzzle in a home with cats would be a challenge. I think dd29 can do it in her home with her cat Lily, but Lily is a surprisingly uninterested cat. I was going to say docile - but she's not really. She's a ragdoll -- but not a very friendly cat as that breed is supposed to be. LOL!

I might have to check out Hudson and Rex, Doggedly! It's on A Prime - but I have to subscribe to some sort of channel. I'll see what I can do.

Back from Kroger with groceries put away. Texted DS a thank you for her card --> even more communication and now she is asking about a phone call -- but I'm saying "not now". F has also texted asking about what we want to be called. Dh is Opa for sure. Not sure if I'm doing the Dutch moniker or the English for the grandbaby. I'm leaning toward English. . . AND my nervous student has been messaging me a lot too. . . Really, communication takes up a LOT of my day.
