Hello everyone!

Helia and Dogged, that's a very interesting conversation about the young people today and their work ethic and opportunities. Most of my friends have (grown up) kids , some doing really well in their lives by their mid 20s (in a stable relationship with someone kind, stable and also hard working, they usually have a house/flat, cat/ dog (no grandkids yet!)) and it doesn't seem to make any difference whether they went to university or not. What does seem to be the underlying factor is that they all had a stable , loving, home life, with parents who were "present" for them, and who also taught them life skills, and expected them to pick up after themselves, help with the housework/ cooking/ laundry etc from an early age. Compared with Dnextdoorneighbour D's not so DS, who is about the same age as M, and has no idea how to cook, do laundry or even empty a bin. (Yes, he still lives at home. When his Mum goes away, he just uses Deliveroo to order in. ) He does have a job, but I do worry about his future...

I hope you have a lovely time with the family, L.Ann.

Sending you finding vibes for those papers, Bama. For some reason, I visualised them on a teapot! Do you have a large receptacle you could have stored them in for "safe keeping"?

You're right about those scissors, Trissie. What dil did you watch for family movie night?

Good to "see" you again, Paige!

Sorry you're not feeling well, KitKat - hoping you feel better soon.

I watered in the nematodes this afternoon and managed to hang the predator mite sachets near the fuchsias. I remembered I needed to make flapjack for the Y this week, so that's done. I've prepped lunch for tomorrow and made coffee cake.

Lauralind, my db was sending pictures of the snow still piled up in his yard. I don't see any snow from my window here. Summer has to come to us eventually! This is Canada, so spring might wave to us as it whizzes by, and go straight into summer.

I'm glad that you had a nice coffee, Kittykatt, even if the conversation was, shall we say, a little inflexible.

Happy upcoming birthday, L.Ann.

Bama, I can totally relate to squirreling away your papers in a safe place and then not being able to find them again! I hope that you find your tax papers before Monday.

trissie, your coworkers have given you good practice for dealing with teens, and at least with your own you can give them that attitude right back, LOL.

Welcome back, Paigealle. We're always happy to see you, whatever brings you here.

Get well soon, kitkat.

You are so right, Kittykatt. The parents make all the difference in preparing their dkids for life. My bff's dkids are thriving, and I put that down to her parenting. She read every book on the subject because she didn't feel that she had a model to follow, and then employed the good advice and ignored the bad. I remember her telling me how many parents just stop parenting their kids when they reach fourteen. My bff had the house that all of the kids came to to play fusball in the basement with her dkids, and they would turn to my bff for advice and support.

This day has completely gotten away from me, but I got one important thing done. I've sorted out my dates for my trip to my db, and gotten the hotel and the car booked. Both web sites were acting up, so I didn't have the luxury of comparing things as I normally would, but it's done now and I have had a little phone visit with my db.

Saturday
Picked up dog food
Heart pill for Germane
Cut down boxes for recycling and organized recycling box to take down
Put on a pot of coffee
Put away dry dishes
Cleaned up after Germane
Listened to my Saturday morning radio shows
Looked into booking hotel room for trip to db
Tried to look into reserving car: web site not working
Tried 3 different browsers: no luck
Called the rental company for fee
Called db
Tried to book the hotel: not working
Tried three browsers: all failed in different ways
Tried from phone: web site appears to be working but hotel is full
Changed date
Checked with db
Booked hotel
Tried to reserve car
Tried with different web sites
Called rental company and reserved car
Put on a couple of pieces of fish for dog
Put one of them in slow cooker with water to make broth for rice

Yes, the splashdown of Orion capsule of Artemis was a joy yesterday, and a relief. Very inspiring voyage all 'round.

I did not know the proper name of the garden shears (is that even close to a potential synonym or would that phrase actually conjure up in the mind some other tool?), so thank you. I guess I hadn't thought of the one-handed use, but of course that's vital. The best feature is the lock, or closure that doesn't allow them to open until you let it go. Otherwise, dangerous in the wrong (or right) hands.

trissie, all best wishes for a memory-making birthday at your household.

L.Ann, oooooooo, Thai Coconut Curry. I will be at a Thai place for lunch tomorrow, and I think you just inspired me. Love that over rice.

Hello again😊 Hello Harriet, I haven’t β€œmet” you before.

To Do. Must do these
Kitchen session 15 min. at least βœ…. Did more than 15
Taxes organized (need Hubby not to notice me starting this 🀭) Worked at this. I have to print some things and can’t get printer to connect to my files.
Go for a walk.
Start memory book DGS gave me for Christmas - gather some rough ideas βœ… Did my start, came across my favourite childhood book. I should have shared it with him years ago. Now I have a new excuse to get rid of it. Came across a few photos and clippings to get me started.

Tada!
So far I’ve slept enough to not feel exhausted, even though I napped in the evening!
played with the stray kitty
Earned some pennies on Swagbucks (not great use of time  )
Sorted a couple of papers
Put a couple of things away
Deleted a few emails
Got some stuff out of the car that I was too tired to do yesterday.
Checked my calendar for working dates this month, updated entries. Not done.
LOL done and hung, Second load started
Laundry room floor washed
Laundry room toilet wiped. The laundry room has a toilet πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ I guess because its by the entrances, so one could use it coming in from yardwork.
Doorway rugs vacuumed, shook, or swept
Doorway closet slightly tidied, a few things tossed
Dusted one surface with damp rag from washer
Washed one section of desk after moving all the papers to go through.
Gave Hubby two tasks re:taxes. He stated, it’s all become too confusing for him. Exactly why it’s good I started without him.

NEXT
Try to print. Two of the things the tax preparers can get anyway. One I must do.
Get that walk!
Make supper

Hi Paige. Good to see you again. Harriet is one of the originals of this board. Hope you are well. Spring is practically here. Not up where dd is in the north. It might be melting now but they had a good several feet of snow still. The river has a pretty good chance of flood.. she's not close to it but their town somehow expects high water table .

I'm tired now. Mostly thinking and a little emotional. The funeral was someone new to church but in,a big local family. Very sudden last weekend. Dh was working so I figured out how to upload and play some slideshows. Ack our internet at church is so slow. But it went well. Gives me confidence I can do it. Tomorrow I'm on piano so I don't pay close attention to what he does.

Made something to eat. Now I should go get a few things from town. I need to play my songs again yet just printed some in different keys. Then see what else I get too.

I'm back from the movie. It was fun!

I'm glad you had a good time with the family, L Ann.
I hope you can have a restful evening, Lauralind. Funerals can be hard.
Yes, Harriet, that locking clip is important! Ah - garden shears. That sounds better than garden clippers. LOL!
Really interesting points re: generations, economics, and how parents raise kids, Kitty and Doggedly. Dh has been a professor for 25 years now (computer/ electrical engineering), and he's noticed general changes over the years in the students in his classes - in their attitudes and readiness for his classes. COVID is likely a factor too.
Yay for planning a trip to see your dbrother, Doggedly!
Paige, a memory book sounds like a great project! Are you still subbing? One thing at a time!

That's as far back as I can go.

I had a productive afternoon at the coffee shop. I caught up on grading, updated gradelink, and got a good start on course overviews for S4. AC came and worked with dh and me. She had me look at her presentation; I had some input which I think was helpful. She also had me review the spreadsheet for tasks during the time she's in Europe for 2 weeks. She's presenting at a professional conference in the UK and then spending a week in Germany visiting her dh's family. Then, I went to the dog park where dd30, dd27, S, and J12yo were - with Fable and Raven. It was Raven's first time so she was a little nervous around some of the dogs. Fable is generally socially anxious, but she's doing better. Then, I raced home, got simple dinner on the table (frozen salmon curry, rice, and mixed veggies). Dh and I ate, cleaned up, and then went to the movie with a short walk on campus afterward.

I didn't get many things done today. I'll try to get to them tomorrow. I'm glad I made progress on payroll stuff.

I'm going to bed soon. We're planning to leave around 7:20 to get parking for the 5K race. Dh wants to run 10 miles, so he'll keep running after the race. Last year, he ran it twice to get 6 miles.

Next:
- duolingo
- update health apps
- go to bed

Later:
- tidy the cedar chest in MBR
- Walgreens run
- refill bird feeder
- write bd card for ds + prep for the mail (although, we'll be there Thursday and it might be just as fast to just bring it. . .) LOL!
- darks: d f p/a
- steam shirt - to get out wrinkles
- duolingo
- update health apps

TaDas!
- up; weighed self - slightly higher
- darks washing
- coffee
- email deletions + weather website
- reclaim kitchen
- some qt
- back exercises
- s2s and self care
- squeegee and wipe down shower
- darks dried, folded, and put away
- made the bed
- lunch
- communication with AC
- to coffee shop
- updated toodledo
- payroll: finish checking drafts
- payroll: graded sundry assignments
- payroll: updated gradelink
- payroll: reviewed AC's presentation
- payroll: reviewed AC's coverage document for when she's out of town
- payroll: started course overview docs for S4
- ran and unloaded dw
- dog park!
- dinner: salmon curry, rice, mixed veggies
- after dinner clean up
- movie with dh
- short walk on campus

I've got to pay taxes for my Mom - we took out extra $ just before she died so we would have $ to manage her house for at least 3-5 years. Hadn't planned on that earlier in the year, so no estimates or withholding. Dsis3 who gathers all the data for Mom's taxes, to give to accountant, won't be here in time, so we just have to pay something (quite a lot actually) but then hope to get much of it back.
And I owe some more than what I had paid in, so I have to pay my own as well.
Thanks paigelle for reminding me I can do anything for 15 minutes. I just hate writing out those big checks!
My reward for doing that will be to come back and chat.
tonight or tomorrow!

That sounds like a lovely evening, helia.

I'm sorry that you have to pay taxes, Gma. I was expecting to have to pay this year, so it was a pleasant surprise to get a big enough refund to cover my trip to visit my db.

Waving to Harriet, Paigealle, Lauralind and L.Ann.
