That covered pen was a great idea, helia, and no doubt saved the lives of your chickens. Do you remember DearDuckyDucky's guinea fowl? He had one job, which was to make noise if a predator threatened their chickens. Instead, he made a nuisance of himself all day long and when predators came he was always hiding in the trees, away from the chicken coop. We were so disappointed when she sent him to a farm because his stories were so entertaining.
We don't mind the whether, because we don't have to go out in it. I'm just glad that the rain is light because the ground is saturated so people in the flood plains are at risk of wet basements.

Thank you for asking about Germane, Harriet. She has just had full bloodwork done. Her kidneys are in great shape but her liver is going, and we already know about the bad heart. Her eyes and mind are not the sharpest, either. She's eighteen, so we take her eccentricities with humour and just try to keep her comfortable.
That is cool to know so much about chickens. When I was young, they were just thought of as animals with no personality and very little brain. There is so much that we were ignorant of!


Germane and I have a good feed, helia, thank you. I hope that the plane is not starving you. They don't have the best reputation nowadays. But I'm sure that you have great meals with dfamily to look forward to on your trip.

It's been a full day, and dry with only a few spots of rain in the early afternoon. lve hoovered the car and ripped the flapjack off at the Y. Then I walked into the city centre and in Sainsbury's I picked up the brand of yeast that our very particular bread maker insists on, and also a very reduced chicken that will do for Sunday. M&S foodhall yielded a reduced chicken and mozzarella pasta bake that we had for supper. Church was good, and I had a nice chat with DF afterwards.

When I got home the weather seemed just right to try out the window vac that DF PM has lent me. All I can say is what a difference! It cleans the windows nicely in a fraction of the time it takes to do them by hand and the results are impressive. (and I think they will be even more impressive when I get more practice!). And Ive cleaned the fridge, so that's another job done.

Matilda is on my lap, and when she decides to get off, I'll be going up to bed.

Germane has incredibly been eating her most-snubbed dog food, a new can of Performatrin. She even accepted another serving of it as her snack.

Started gathering dry tshirts to put away
Spotted the runoff from the pee pads
Washed that part of the floor
Got a bag to change pee pads. Germane came to use the pee pads.
Rushed to lift the edge of the pad so it wouldn’t run off again
Washed that part of the floor. Most efficient system. Mop was already loaded and in place.
Changed the pee pads
Gave Germane her heart pill
Set alarm for one hour
Put away dry tshirts
Brought more out to air
Started folding dry laundry
Germane thoughtfully set up a dexterity and balance obstacle course for me, as I do not exercise enough. Cleaned it up. Spot-cleaned floor and mats.
Germane has rejected her open container of Go! Dog food for three days straight.
Opened a can of Performatrin, which she hasn’t had in over a month. To my surprise, she loved it.
Gave her a quarter of a can, one spoonful at a time. Stopped at that point to avoid overfeeding her.
Settled in with a breakfast of naan bread and onion yoghurt. That doesn’t smell like anything that she would want to eat, so she has gone back to the bathroom to sleep.
Checked drying laundry, put away the dry and rearranged the rest

Changed out kitchen cloths

Hi Everyone!
I did not get to post...
Another pretty sluggish day but we took advantage of the pause in showers and went for our walk. Pup is getting excited about our walks:) Nice to see that. (Before, she just came along...) We did nearly an hour AND, I did not fall asleep after, thanks to DH who is "phone-happy".
Did a brief grocery/hardware store outing.
Did a couple of loads of laundry - still at it.

helia, I am not sure if it was the same storm system or not. I sure could have been, but I haven't had the TV on to see national news or weather, so can't comment.
I think I mentioned that I have an "event" all day tomorrow at our college - inauguration of new president. It will be a great day. School lcolors are black and gold, and we have been those are the colors for attire for the day. So I need to find my black slack, my gold sweater, and decide what else I will wear with the sweater on top. I have college pins, and some earrings that look like amber (but I don't think they are really, because they were so cheap). My black shoes might be as much as 15 years old, and the velcro just doesn't stick to hold the strap in place. I bought new shoes tonight, not at all expensive, and I hope they will be comfortable enough to walk around campus for the day.
Not much luck on the work boots tonight. Yesterday's store has promise. Today's store had more hiking boot type. (I might go back there for the hiking boots? They seemed pretty comfortable, and maybe I would walk more in them? )
I have 2 more stores that I want to check. Maybe tomorrow after the festivities I can get to at least 1 of them.

Early bedtime tonight - I have to be on campus by 0830! that is early for me!

Prayer shawl progress - I'm at 10 1/2 inches already. Trying to do 2-3 inches a day. I think I am surpassing that, or at least making it. Goal is 60 inches long. It would go faster if it was all one color and I didn't have to tie off, make a knot, change colors ever row - it's shell stitch, alternating 1 row white, 1 row soft blue.
