Thanks for continuing to check in, Kathryn. Glad the travels are no-hassle but sorry about the aches and pains of it.

Wonderful diagnosis wishes going out to LO, Lilac's dgd and Macs. May there be a lot of wisdom from professionals to help each dear one.

Yes, it was me who mentioned Outliers the other day, Mystery, and it is the book I am reading. I heard about it in the speech the other night at the ceremony and when I looked it up reviews were so good I grabbed it. I have finished the chapter you mentioned and have moved on to the part about innate talent vs sufficient practice. It was a little painful for HRH to hear me discuss that chapter on the relationship of calendar-age to praise. I had forgotten that his mother insisted he be admitted to school early, not because of demonstrated ability but because it would be more convenient. Within a couple years she was gone, but his father didn't realize that he had the power to change back to normal, or that it would help. No educator ever intervened and he remained at the age of the next lower class throughout school. To this day, my bright husband says the first academic praise he ever received was from a college English teacher.

Sadie, I'm so glad to hear there's been some healing for your menfolk! We missed hearing from you. You need one of those reacher-thingies in the house. Indiana and I used to talk about ours. Hers was an actual good one but mine is a robot claw from a toy store! Even so, it's a big help when your back goes on strike! (And it's cheap, and bright colors so I don't lose it!)

Youtube got hit by hackers for sure today. What a mess there for a while.

My ddad is having a hard day, with many questions.

Up from my rest of a couple of hours. Not sure I slept but I did rest. Body is still tired.

My sister's flight is landing now. If I got in the car, I could meet her after she picked up her luggage. I told her repeatedly I'd pick her up and she insisted on busing it. The last note from her said "if you come and pick me up, text me so I'll look for you." In the meantime, I had planned my day to not get her and to get dh. The airport is an hour round trip, so I think she'll have to bus it. I tried and tried to get her to coordinate her travel with me, or to travel on the same plane as dh (he's flying here from Toronto) and she refused to do both so I guess I shouldn't feel bad about making her take the bus.

The heater in the hotel is super efficient so the room is hot now (I had the patio door open during my rest.)

I think I'll go off and get dinner now. Nothing fancy, just lasagna or chili from Tim Horton's. But I'm picking the Tim's across the harbour from me and taking the ferry to it.

At least I've done something today. I picked up dog food and the two office supplies, and pumpkins for the front porch. The label tape that I bought works in the label maker so I'm glad of that - it was so jammed up last time I used it that I wasn't sure it would work again.

DMacs roused himself when I came in and is eating supper - he probably hasn't been on his feet more than half a dozen times today. I'm hoping that by the time I come back in later, he'll be up for a walk.

Good Afternoon, Villagers, on this Thoughtful Thursday!

My thoughtful things I've done of late are:
1- To write the mother of a Down's Syndrome adult DD and sent a sheet of beautiful butterfly, fern and flower stickers for my pal's DD. It'll be a treat for her.
2- I told a BFF about my joining Ravelry last p.m., told her all about it, and how it works.
3- I sent the same BFF a pattern from the Internet, which is an adorable brimmed hat for a baby girl. Pink and white, too.
4- I prayed for myself and others.
5- I sorted the mail so DH didn't need to.
6- I wished my dr. to have a great vacation when she goes in the New Year.
7- I complimented someone on their pretty green outfit.
8- I complimented someone else on their festive beaded necklace her DD picked out for her.
9- I put away the yarn we got today, immediately, rather than have it lay around forming hot spots, so now DH doesn't need to look at it.
10- I told the lady at the craft store to have a nice day.
11- I wrote a pen pal a letter this morning before we left.
12- I'm keeping quiet because DH is watching a baseball play-offs game, will watch 1 more tonight AND the Oregon Ducks play football, TOO! So I'm being thoughtful as not to interrupt him while he watches.

I didn't get home today until around 1:30 p.m., so I've done a quick cuop and I'm sorry about Dee and the internet situation.

Oh, I need to confess about something, trivial to some, I'm sure. While we were at the big craft store, there was a huge spider on the floor in one aisle, I did not see it, thank goodness, but DH told me it was alive, it was there and it was HUGE! I hate spiders! If I'd seen it, I'd probably had screamed. So it's a good thing I didn't see it. At check-out there were spiders decorating everything, a pkg. of something white to buy, which had black spiders all over it, AND driving home, on the country road before our lane there is a huge purple and black spider about 6 - 7 feet long draped over a small building in someone's front yard. I can't get away from spiders today! I love snakes though! Is this weird? Our neighbor's deathly afraid of snakes, I dearly love them, but she likes spiders!

I need to hem a pair of lounge pants and need to mend another pair.

Hi Everyone! I didn't realize it's been a few days since I posted. But I remember you all every day!

Nothing exciting has been happening with me and mine lately. We had an errand day earlier this week and I did a little more desk work, paying a few more bills, downloading some pictures from my camera, etc. I need to clear the card so it's ready for the holidays.

Some random thoughts from yesterday....
Congratulations to Harriet's dd14 for membership in A o E. These are the "busy years" with children and good for bonding with dd and dh. Girls usually remain close to moms when they are grown, but the bonding is special with their fathers. (At least that is how I felt).
Mystery, I loved your description of the fall colors and flowers when you took your walk. That is one of the things I miss about living in Pgh. My dmom's daunt and dsis lived for a while in Shaker Heights and dmom would visit there.
Kathryn, birthday wishes for your duncle. 100 is an awesome number of years! Glad you made it safe.

And today....
Harmony, I know it hasn't been easy for you, but I'm glad dgd2 is good for you. You are an awesome dgrandma! Just do what you can while she's there --- time enough later to catch up on things! Too bad I'm not closer to help!

Started this a couple of hours ago; had to stop to help dh finish up baking. He's started our holiday cookies. Then I got supper for us and ddogs. We had cheese omelets, biscuits and fresh strawberries.

Oh, Sunny, our dhs would get along famously! Mine loves to do holiday baking and used to do most of it while we still had our house. Now he's doing it at dd's. He's only unhappy that he can't do as much of it there. There's not freezer room and you know how they spoil down there. As a matter of fact dd was wondering this summer if perhaps there were cookies left in the cooler on the back porch. Could be -I've forgotten to ask her. Guess I'll text her and ask if she found any when she got home.

We're just finishing up dinner. Made turkey reubens. Hate eating this late.

It's going to be a long night.

Ferry is down to one instead of two and I had just missed one so drove to a shopping center instead to hit dollar store, dinner of some sort, and grocery store. It was across from the bus mall my sister would be arriving at but she didn't respond to my text so I didn't see her.

I had lasagna for dinner and then picked up the groceries. Cereal for me, milk for dh, flavoured water without aspartame or calories, and juice. I'm excited about the water because it is a brand I should be able to get at home, unless this is a test market for it.

I parked the car out on the street because the parking garage here is terrifying. Especially in a rental car.

My sister is in her hotel now but out for supper.

Dh might be on his way here now. His plane hadn't left ground last I checked but Air Canada thinks that he has already left because the plane pushed back from the gate. Regardless, he doesn't have a suitcase with him so this will be interesting. I guess we have shopping in our future tomorrow. And a late night tonight, first with his delayed flight and then with making the claim for the suitcase.

DBro is out of surgery and in recovery. The shoulder replacement was a failure. The surgeons give him 20% chance of having any movement in it. They said his other shoulder is in the same shape. DBro is NOT going to take this news well when he wakes up. Not only the forever loss of mobility and pain (Dee knows this well), but DBro is going to have to turn loose of a lifestyle/dream. The family is debating on who will tell him.

Not unexpected, but feeling a little down that LO is sick. He is running fever, coughing and struggling to keep anything down. Poor fella. He is sitting here wrapped up in a quilt and watching TV. That never happens unless he feels absolutely rotten. We are 16 hours away from time to leave. ***VBSigh**** Hope. Hope. Hope. LO can improve enough to go.

Oh my Okay. So sorry for the news about your dbro. It's not easy to hear news like that. Blessings for him. Also sorry to hear LO is reacting to those shots. Hope he feels better tomorrow!

Dee, I'm sure our dh's would get along well! Here, everyone looks forward to dh's baking. But it's getting harder for him to keep up with it, even with me helping. One of these days they are going to have to bake for us!
