Thoughtful Thursday

Post by scattered »

What have you done that was thoughtful for someone lately?

I gave the young gal at work that has been having so much trouble $10.00 so that she could make her son a cake and get him some ice cream. She sent me the pics of it yesterday and she made him a really great Yosemite Sam cake.

Worked late last night (until midnight) was going to sleep in until 6:30 but woke up with my allergies going nuts. So now I am waiting for some coffee and then I need to get d2s to head back... working 8am - 7:30pm (the off going Nurse was going to stay until 8am since I didn't get off till late), but since I am up anyway I will head in close to on time.

Have a wonderful day Villagers!

Dinner last night with my senior friend was very thoughtful. She and I have both been sick so haven't seen much of each other. But at least we have plans for when she gets back from her trip (she leaves the day I arrive home so last night was our last chance to see each other for weeks.)

I also spent time doing pastoral listening when I picked up the mail last night. Our postmistress is overwhelmed with work due to a broken scanner (it has been down for 6 weeks now.) It scans parcels and parcels is the bulk of their delivery now so she has to hand enter the codes off each parcel before it can go out to the rural route. I can't help at all but I can hear her and offer sympathy, so I did.

But both those things cost me 3 hours yesterday and I got to bed 1.5 hours late as a result. Then I didn't sleep well. Oh well, today is only a 23 hour day so I have a good excuse to go to bed earlier tonight (I won't though, because I'm hoping to pick up dh at the airport at 10:30.)

I'm moving OK but not too OK today. Still have to eat and shut down the house but the packing is almost done. My computer has to go in next and then we'll see what of the pile that's left on the table will fit in my bag.

Good morning!

Halfway through breakfast and waiting for my turn at the funnies.

That was so good of you, scattered! You made at least two people very happy. And so did you, Kathryn, even though it cost you some sleep. How can I be thoughtful today...? (Since I can't think of anything thoughtful I did yesterday.) Certainly, I should call my DGM, who is nearly as old as Kathryn's dUncle. I've missed seeing her the past two Sundays because of hockey. Don't know if my library duty counts as thoughtful. I know it's helpful, but it's part of my routine, so it doesn't require much thought. Will have to be on the lookout for opportunities!

High school night went fairly well.... It appears we won't have to convince DD of the benefits of same-sex HS education -- she didn't even want to look at any coed schools. There were a couple that I would have been willing to look at, but once she was done with the girls' schools, she was done. The one I'd been leaning least towards is back in the running -- they're starting to offer transportation next school year. (My biggest problem with them was that it would mean driving the girls in completely different directions; even though the other two are way across town, one of them is just off the highway, and the other is not far from where the girls are going to school now. DD will have to attend open houses and shadow to get an idea of which is the best fit for her -- granted, she would have had to do that anyway, but apparently all three schools have something to offer "all kinds of girls," and all of them use block scheduling "to ease the transition to college." (I don't know about anybody else, but honestly, of all the things I can think about in my "transition to college," the class schedule was the least of my worries -- except for the early Thursday morning math session that all freshmen had to take (in which tests were given to discourage you from sleeping in and skipping class!).

Yikes! Time to go to the library -- will have to catch up on any new posts later!

I think I did my "thoughtful" thing last night before going to bed. Sent Mystery a couple of pictures of her 2 dds and our dgd17 (when they were probably about 6 years younger). How fast they grow up. Mystery's right, her one dd has beautiful red hair!

So far I've done testing (83), meds, breakfast and am just finishing my coffee -which is causing any congestion to loosen and go away. Feel a lot better but sure do have a full head!

DH & I went down the road to an Alpaca farm late yesterday and chatted with the owner while watching & petting many Alpacas. They're so soft and friendly. Learned a lot -they're so different than most other animals -for instance they only birth between 8am and 2pm. Then we went for dinner at a local restaurant. I had chicken fingers & sweet potato fries. Only ate 1 finger and about 1/2 the fries. LUNCH! DH has leftover cabbage roll for his.

It was still pretty nice out when we got home so we pretty well finished cleaning things up on the deck and putting them away. He finally managed to get the deck heater reduced in height so he can put it in the storage area today -rather than leaving it to winter on the deck. Think about the only thing we have left out there (deck that is) is to finish taking beverages out of the fridge so it can be defrosted and tarped.

We could be leaving here as soon as 2 weeks from yesterday and the latest would probably be 2 weeks from tomorrow. Have to help him today by running him around to pick up golf carts to put in the rec hall for winter storage. It finally dawned on dcampowner last year -a little late- that he has this mammoth rec hall empty all winter. So he started offering it for storage for carts for $100 for the winter. That's a little less than someone else is offering for the same service on other property. Ours will be the last one in, so it can be the first one out. Have a couple of things in ours that I'll take over to dd's MH today -a big plastic bin & a tall fan.

Got quite a few pictures scanned in last night. Now to upload them to W mart so I can pick up the photos later today. I'll take them to ddil#2 on Sunday. Have a bunch of DS-A when he was little and very blonde. Noone believes that he used to be blonde! But for some reason I can't find any of his baby pictures -maybe they're in FL -only from about a year & a half on....

Good morning!

My thoughtful act was sending a big batch of childhood photos to DD and DS. These were duplicates that I found. Have the originals in albums. The cutest ones were of the two of them together. I think DDIL will enjoy seeing DS at all different ages. DD will make a scrapbook with hers. Someday they can fight over the shelf of photo albums I have here. Looking at all those photos, I thought, no wonder I'm tired! :)

Hung a large mirror in bathroom yesterday. The little medicine cabinet mirror was not working for me! Will take that entire cabinet to thrift store. Don't have much planned for today, so will surprise myself with whatever I accomplish! ;) Wish you all a happy day.

Good Morning!

thoughtful? Hum.....nothing is coming to mind, so I need to look for some opportunities today to be thoughtful to others.

Yesterday went as well as it could have. LO survived the the flu vaccine (nasal spray) plus the 7 immunization doses (condensed into 2 shots instead of the 3 shots I expected him to get) without TOOOO much distress. He cried about a minute then we sat in the exam room for about another 10 minutes and talked about it while he got himself calmed down and back to his normal happy self. By the time we left, he gave the nurse a hug and they agreed next time he came to see the pediatrician she would NOT be giving him any immunizations shots. (until he turns 11 years old). ***PHEW*** I'm glad to have that done!

Good News! The pediatrician is happy with LO height/weight ratio. Last year he was near the obese category  but now he is growing taller so the weight fits him. :) His BMI dropped 2 points which is big for his age. Doc said to keep doing what we are doing - 3 milks a day, limit juice/sweets, offer vegetables & fruits multiple times daily, don't require him to finish his food (clean his plate) but let him listen to his body and stop eating when he is full.

Not so good news, but making progress in the right direction - Although we took LO to ENT recently and had his hearing tested and they said everything is fine......however his pediatrician thinks there is something not right with him ears/hearing. He did some kind of quick test yesterday (sticking some instrument into his ears) and said his ear drums are flat (meaning no movement). He wants us to take LO to a different ENT and have exam/tested again, so they set that appt up before we left the pediatrician office. I'm relieved. I kept thinking LO hearing isn't like it should be, however he passed the ENT multiple hearing test (in a booth and with equipment stuck in his ears)......so I kept telling myself that I must be imagining it.

IMHO, DH did an great job last night with the worship service. There is no way he could pull together a sermon in the 14 minutes he had to prep, so we consider it a gift received that he was able to share with others.

We are going to postpone leaving until tomorrow. Main factors in decidion
** LO just received 8 doses of meds......the chances are high that he is going to be running fever & feeling yucky the next 24 hours.
** I don't want to leave until know DBro is out of surgery with no problems
** DDad had another very rough day yesterday, I want to see if he rebounds today
** doing 36 hours away is MUCH easier to prep for than 50+ hours

Good morning! Need to think of thoughtfulness today.

Tonight we are going to a fundraiser for which a good friend is Exec director. She gave us tickets plus two extras as they make more from their silent auction and the bidding. Although I hate to bring anything home and will have to consider making a charitable contribution instead, if I can convince dh.

Last night's meeting went well - the board recommends renegotiating the rabbi's contract so that is moving along and it looks like most of my earlier fears might have been overthinking.

I slept in until 8 this morning - was up in the night when a storm rolled through and I gave dMacs meds and then read for awhile. I need to work on PODA - oy already 9:30 and I'm just now figuring out the day!

Helping children and saying the right things chat - the book I'm reading now has a lot to say on this but I'll need to read further to be sure I understand the author's full points. So far it is dismaying to learn that, worldwide, society's preoccupation with annual scheduling (for instance, scouting for some youth sports happens at only one time of year) can severely limit a hopeful young person who was literally "born in the wrong month" to look as talented as others at an annual assessment.

Lilac, I hope your dd continues to have a good feeling about her business.

I have only interacted with dd so far today, but I put her hair up into pigtails for some school sillyness and didn't complain. Also tried not to complain about running late, not getting her vitamins, etc!

Oh - edit - I can thoughtfully remember to share that:
Nancy is having computer woes and will have to be away a while! :( She might be able to check in from the library.

Exercised for 45 and the Morning Daily Card is done well. Had a protein shake and my supplements.

Next up
outdoor chores.
Declutter of master bath vanity.

Looks like you and I are on the 'same page' as per photos, Elly. I just spent another hour or so looking for a particular photo I had promised DDIL#2 (I had it out the other day & evidently put it back in with the pack). Did give me an idea while I was doing all this however. Think I'll get the other boxes of photos out and take them with me to FL. What I want to do is to scan EVERYTHING into the computer and put each family on a separate thumb drive and give that to each of them NEXT Christmas. Pretty sure I can't be ready by THIS Christmas! Then I'll just leave the physical photos in FL where there's a 'mean' temperature.

Pretty proud of myself that I figured out how to do the scanning of photos and transferring them all by myself! Next is to figure out how to get them in order on the thumb drives -I'll figure that out later....much later.
nothing is coming to mind,
Uh, Okay, I don't think anything NEEDS to come to your mind. You are obviously very thoughtfyk ALL THE TIME! We're blessed just by 'listening' to you.

DH was just in and someone else has volunteered to take him around to gather golf carts for storage. So, that means I can spend the rest of the morning doing what I need to do in here. DPCs are in that mix. Here it is almost 10am and I'm still in PJ's! :o But I've hardly been idle. Got pictures all scanned, downloaded and ORDERED! I can pick them up after getting tires on the car today.

Next up is s2s and get meds filled for 2 weeks.

RE: children intelligence and confidence/determination to do best effort. I am immersed in a little boys things, so freely admit to not being able to see the long term/big picture effect. However, IMHO I truly think it is vital important for children to learn to fail without extreme disappointment, then how to recovery and try again. Almost to the point they are okay with failing because they know they can always come up with a way to do better next time. If children discover the love of learning and develop a passion for doing...... then they just need a mentor/teacher who can stay up with them......or get out of their way!
