Our city used to pick up residents' leaves 2x/year; you just raked them into the street before the pick up date (dates staggered for different neighborhoods) and then they went through and gathered them. Unfortunately, not anymore. 
There are some companies here that will now pick up your leaves if you rake them into the street in front of your house, as before; that can make quite a pile, though. . . . There are some of those piles in our neighborhood; dh and I are hoping people are hiring these companies and are not forgetting that the city no longer picks up the leaves in the street. Dh does not want to bother with raking an acre+/paying someone else to rake an acre+, so he has dd14 (she chose to be our lawn mower this summer, a paid position in our family 
) mow it with a mulching setting or something. It works OK as long as the leaves aren't too deep in one spot. There is always some raking involved. Dh + helpers rake onto a tarp and then we just throw the leaves into the forested portion of our property.
My hens have not come outside today. I took some leftover rice from dinner last night into their coop so at least they'll get something to eat. Iris is now molting and she looks awful; I think she feels awful too. At least Iggy came out yesterday on her own. We think they're still spooked by the new paint; other than Iggy's foray yesterday, they have yet to venture outside on their own since the paint job. Dh threw them outside and closed the door (to keep them from running back in) a couple days over the weekend. Maybe I should do that today too. Who knows what is going on inside their brains. . . .
The power company came and put yellow caution tape around the downed wire. The guy confirmed what dh had said: it is for a street light. Apparently, we ARE getting some Sandy effect way over here; I've heard the Great Lakes, including Lake Michigan - which is still about 120 miles west of us, are having immense waves. Not sure they're record breaking, but I've heard they're about 20 feet+. It continues to be windy here. It was sleeting for a couple hours this morning.
It is 2:30 -- a.m. routine is still not quite done yet. But, I have gone to the groc. store, put everything away, had lunch, had an argument with dh this morning 
, sent out some organizational emails, and put pumpkin bread (from Krusteaz mix) in the oven. Earlier, I did drive dd14 to school, take dd17 to a dental appt., and make some phone calls.
Goals for today:
1. I am making a meal to bring another family with a new baby today.
2. Take the meal to the family in neighboring town, leaving here around 4:30 pm.
3. Feed my own family -- same meal, of course. 
4. Put together rough draft of a "retreat" for the moms group women for thursday.
5. Exercise. I won't be able to get to this until after dinner, so I'll have to go run in circles around the track at the gym. I'd better make sure my ipod is charged. Running the track is pretty boring. . .
Next: finish a.m. routine -- load dw, strip MBR bed, start up laundry. Then, I'll mix up the peanut sauce for the chicken. Other than that, the meal will go quickly: cooking up the chicken stove top w/ some of the sauce, making rice in my rice maker, cutting up and steaming cauliflower. I already have a demi-baguette -- and dessert will be pumpkin bread and tangerines.

Wanted to check in and say hello. I've been thinking of all in the northeast in the storms' path and hoping everyone is all right.
I talked with ds#3 this afternoon and his family is good. They had lots of rain and wind, but no flooding and no trees down in his yard or nearby neighbors. Their electricity was out for 16 hours and came back on about 10 am this morning.
I also talked with my dcousin and they left VA on Sunday, drove inland for a while and then south. They stayed in St. Augustine, FL last night and are now home here this afternoon.
We still have family in Penna., Ohio. and Conn. They are all right as far as I know. I'm hoping that all is well with all our SHEs and family and friends that we all know.
I'm going to cuop now. bbl.

Awake from my nap. Got a phone call at the beginning of it so it stretched out an extra 45 minutes. I did sleep though. Trying to shake the cobwebs out now. I'm in an 'eat junk food' mood today so am fighting that. I did a lot of damage this morning and at lunch so am hoping to avoid the 'well I broke my diet, I may as well keep eating' attitude.
Forgot to tell mention that the stores in Ogdensburg carry the all natural Crystal Lite so I got two flavours, one with 0 calories and one with 15 per 8 oz (which beats the 30 per 8 oz that I'm having now with deluted juice.) They are the individual packages that can be added to water so I'll keep some in my purse and avoid the soft drink minefield I fell into today (but I did enjoy my two Dr. Peppers greatly!)

Today I've washed sheets and they are dry & back on the bed now.
Mowed this morning for my exercise before I picked up dgd from preschool. I have cleaned the chicken run and hosed off the removable boards for the roosts and ladder. The one that had eye probs. is fine today except for new scuffles with the young roo that's just learned to cackle sounding like a hen.
It will live another day.

so thrilled to hear that d helia has chickens too. they don't allow them by us. (our neighbor had them and once the coyote's got the rest the city no longer allows them. (I can understand why as we are not in the country side) horses are big in the areas outside of the immediate town. the people (one house) who live across the road can have chickens bc they are near the forest preserve and that small plot is unincorporated.

I'm glad to see so many check in from Sandy-land.
We are outside of her immediate range here, although I'm sure we'll feel her sooner or later. Today has been bright and dry, a beautiful autumn day.
I went out running errands early this morning because I had a coupon for a free breakfast burrito from McD's. They already have their holiday peppermint hot chocolate and peppermint mocha on the menu, yum! I went prepared, took along a bottle of half milk & leftover coffee to mix in because I find everyone's mocha latte mix much too sweet. Also had my water bottle with me to drink with the burrito, with the peppermint mocha being more of a dessert drink to sip the rest of the morning.
Dishes and laundry are caught up ... for the moment.
I checked the status of the trash bin outside, and with tomorrow's household trash it will be stuffed full to go to the curb tomorrow night.
Tonight and tomorrow I'll be trying to fill the recycle bin.
Doesn't take much to make me happy these days, and full bins going to the curb will do it.
I could easily gather more trash, but have no place to put it. Next time I go to The Big City, I need to fit in a stop at a hardware/farm store to pick up another heavy duty trash bin with wheels. Still working on clearing stuff out of the shed and garage, cannot convince DH to help me so I'm a bit limited on what I can do by myself. We're only allowed to set out 1 trash bin per week. Once I get space in the shed for another bin, though, I can take advantage of high-energy times -- get the trash out of the house so it's no longer a rush at deadline to roll it to the curb.
Hey, it's already past time to start cooking supper. BBL.

Just a quick cuop and hello to all of you! 
DH and I have been watching Sandy coverage. So much devastation. 
On my PODA:
1- I washed, dried sheets and DH and I made the med fresh; dark clothes are washing, while they're drying I'll wash light-colored towels.
2- Haven't dusted or dust-mopped, may wait until tomorrow because am trying to get projects together to work on, for crochet, reading and writing.
3- I don't know if I'll walk 30 min. yet; might have the laundry, housework and puttering take place of walking today.
I mended the waist of lounging pajamas, hemmed 1 leg of lounging pajamas and will do the second leg next.
Put lounging pajamas, bed jacket in 1 spot in the walk-in closet. Mike put flannel p.j.'s there, too and hoodies for when I get cold. 
I got 1 Halloween card and 1 extremely short letter, from another gal, so can answer them today or tomorrow.
DH has a can light about 14 feet high up to change, so he'll use the kit with the suction tool on the end of it to get the dead bulb out and to screw the new bulb in. He's tired from getting wood in to the bin, we had a long day yesterday and we're both tired. (Are we getting old?)
It's raining, sometimes pouring here, but no wind or storm. Keep thinking about the Sandy residents and the devastation she left behind. Keep praying for those living in those areas.
DH emptied the DW, which was sweet of him, ♥ I got out yarns for some slouch hats. Am experimenting to see if DD will like them, when or if she/they come Thanksgiving. She wears a lot of black and white and bright red and black. The pattern is a hexagon in stripes.
I didn't know helia had chickens, too! 
Our old neighbors had them, coyotes got them, too, but then they found out their little Scottie dog was getting them, too. They got rid of the dog and chickens both.
Nancy, We washed sheets today, too, and they're dry and on the bed, too!
Kathryn, I'm glad you got your nap. I know when I was 11 1/2 - 12, coming back from hep 1 or hep A was a long period. Lost so much weight. I'm trying to stay out of the Halloween candy today, myself!
Sunny, I hope everyone you know in the northeast and Sandy's path are safe, too. It's so scary to think how vulnerable we all are at times like this, but it's wonderful how people pull together.
Helia, We have a 1/4-mile long driveway full of Maple trees and yesterday, while driving out, we couldn't really "see" where the leaves ended and the driveway started. DH said he'd blow them off again with his Craftsman mower, but today's just too wet to do it. I know on the news, out of Seattle, they recommend that residents clean out storm drains, etc... to help before storms so there won't be flooded basements, too. I'm glad the power company put down yellow caution tape, too.
You're so sweet to take a meal to the family with the new baby. What a wonderful thing to do.

I need to run and get that 2nd lounge pant leg hemmed. My main goal is to NOT eat ANY of the mini Reece's PB cups DH bought for Halloween. We've not had trick or treaters for 8 YEARS, but at least we're prepared. It wreaks havoc on the diet, too!

LOL Ivy.....how many Reece PB cups does it take to be prepared? We never get any trick/treaters either. I used to buy a bag of candy "just in case", but always ended up eating it ourself. A few years ago I decided to quit buying candy and just hand out quarters or dollar bills if anyone ever shows up at our door.
Dentist is sending me to endodontist. yucko. Root canal. I'll take a round of antibodies before going to endodontist. Dentist also gave me a prescription of hydrocodone to use if/when the tooth pain gets bad while waiting for endodontist appt (next week). I am soooooo not looking forward to this. If I remember right, the last root canal I had took about 7 visits plus cost $4K. I can't think about adding seven more medical appts to my schedule, so I will just add the next one and ignore what follows it.
DH is help LO with his homework. I'm finalizing plans for tomorrow.

Guess my internet is still on. Maybe they turn it off remotely at midnight??? See if I still have it in the morning. I will be 'watching' to make sure it does get turned off and I'm not billed past today.
DH and I pretty well loaded the car before we went to dinner. Think he was pretty amazed. Must have done pretty well, because looking around in here, it's pretty neat and tidy! I'm impressed with ME! Ta-DA! Then dh was trying to divy up our cash. Always hate carrying it. Put it in DBIL/DSIL's safe after we get down there.
Want to vacuum through and do up the dishes in the morning. DH will get the slides in and winterize. Then we're outta here. DH talked to friend from CWorld in Hershey, PA tonight. He told dh that "you're good to go". So we will start out and see what's out there when we get to PA.
Met dfriends (so glad that worked out -finally). He drives school bus part time -but there were no runs after school today -NO school. AFter dinner we went to the fire hall so dh could take a shower. I took a few things to DS-A's while he showered.

Dee I figure your first thought that Sandy has the internet company distracted is probably the right one. Getting existing customers up is first priority, hooking up new ones would be around 10th, and disconnecting people who have left the campground for winter would be like 45th priority.
I've wasted away the day but, in fairness, it was to be my Sabbath today so I did really well with that, nice drive with dh, lunch out, some shopping, nap, watched tv in the evening. Dh cooked and I cleaned up. My Tuesday chores are being shifted to Thursday in the new BWP but I did a couple of them early because there's no way things could wait until Thursday.
