Tune Tuesday

Post by scattered »

Good Morning Villagers

Well, Central Virginia has survived Sandy relatively unscathed. The DK's are off school again today so they will be here all day. I have to work the next 3 days, ugh 3 12 hour shifts in a row. I am up and d2s need to find my jackets and get moving.

Have a great Day! Crank your favorite tunes and rock your chores.

We had a very windy night. I don't know if that is related to Sandy or not -- we're pretty far away. A city crew is working on our street; they arrived around 6:50 a.m. It sounds like they are cutting up a tree that fell down - we've heard chainsaws. Lots of mature trees in our neighborhood.

I'm off in a minute to take dd14 to school and then to get dd17 to her new dental appt. at 8 a.m. today. bbl

Good Morning!

YEAH for safe report from the storm area!
When did your grandbabies start eating "real" (baby) food?
We were told nothing but formula until 6 months old. If they had trouble sleeping then mix in 1-2 T of rice cereal before bedtime. LO was a bit of a challenge because during a 2 month period (3-5 months old) before he came to live with us, he was not given bottles of formula but instead was fed baby food mixed with cereal through a nipple that had the end cut off. Definitely not recommended.. POINT BEING.....babies will usually survive on most anything fed them. However just because they survive doesn't mean it is free of long term effects. There are charts online that show what food to introduce at what age and how long to wait before introducing the next food. I didn't follow it perfectly but used it as a guideline with LO.

Every single day this week has 1-2 appointments. Sometimes I need to stop and remind myself how blessed I am.

Today we are taking LO to another ENT doctor. Although LO passed previous ENT & hearing test, our pediatrician still thinks his ears aren't working correctly. Hopefully we will find out for sure today.

Safe here too. DH did get up in the middle of the night (around 2) and secured the solid roofs. He had taken the bolts out a few days in preparation for putting them down. I heard him later (never heard any of this). I glanced at the clock and thought it said 5:17. I was amazed I had slept all night! Much later I happened to glance at the clock & it was 4:42. DH said he just slipped some bolts into the holes to keep them from lifting.

So funny because I probably slept better last night than in weeks! Still watching :D what's going on in PA before we decide whether we'll leave tomorrow. I'm almost thinking, probably not. DH is getting calls: "Are you leaving?"

BTW, Helia, was just watching a weather map & yes your city is part of Sandy. She was huge! Heard last night she stretched 1,000 miles in every direction.

DH just called to tell me if I want to spend our C World $$ on covers for our Fantastic fans and AC covers, he'd put them on. So when he gets a little time we'll probably drive into town.

So far we still have internet, but guess I better post while I still do. Will try to see if I'm still online from time to time today.

I forgot and took my whole diabetic pill last night. BS was down to 67 this morning. Have taken meds but really need to get my breakfast.

Wondering how Kathryn is faring today. Know they were going to leave for the border pretty early. Not sure how much of the storm stretched up there. Know here there were 20' waves on shore.

Good morning, everyone! Hope all in the storm path are doing okay -- and are at least safe & dry in their shelter -- this morning! Just remembered this morning -- watching the rescue of the Bounty crew in NC -- I have a dfriend whose son-in-law is in the Coast Guard in that area! Must ask about him today.

Also have been seeing pics online of the guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Those men are amazing. (If the pictures are accurate. They say they've never left their post, and they didn't during this storm, either.)
Just checked -- apparently some of the photos ARE old pictures, not taken during this storm, but according to USAToday, they are still out there. Marines say they will not risk "life or limb" of their guards, but they have never left yet, and don't expect to now. That sense of duty and loyalty just brings tears to my eyes.

Well... thanks for the input... that "nothing but formula & rice cereal" routine looks pretty much the norm. Oh my goodness... going to have to listen to dmil AND dh for another two months... good grief.
That aside, I think ddil is pretty sick of this pediatrician in general. I hope she can get dgs in with someone else, someone we know a little more about, you know? Someone recommended by a friend or something. It's really hard to get a good pediatrician around here. All the really good ones say "not taking new patients."

Hope y'all get some good news for LO today, OKay!
Tomorrow is another day.

We are having strong winds related to Sandy as well - wind advisory through 8 p.m. today, I think.

Yes, Lucylee, I recall those days. Everyone seems to have an opinion on what a baby should eat, and the general recommendation now is formula and a little rice cereal until six months.

Back at work today.

lucylee, all the pediatricians in our area say just formula until 6 months.

Dh leaves this afternoon to start his first leg of the trip to Galveston. He finally admitted to me that he will just be glad when the trip is over. He has committed to going, so he will. It just irks me that he'll be spending so much $$$$ on a trip that he would rather not take. I have to pack his bags this morning. He has everything picked out, it's just a matter of getting it in the bags. This bike has hard saddle bags plus a large trunk thing on the back that is also hard. Then it has removable bags that fit in them. The 4 guys are renting a condo. You would think that towels and toilet paper would be included for the price they are paying, but they aren't. :o

Guess I better eat breakfast, do meds, shower and pack his stuff. I am hoping to accomplish a lot, since he will be gone for a week.

Hoping you can get a lot done, Lilac. I always had 'good intentions' when dh would be gone. But life very often got in the way. Imagine!!

Glad to see people check in this morning.
Prayers for the many over there affected in any way.

Stay safe whenever you take to the roads Dee. Maybe see how the day / roads pans out between water and snow falls. 20' waves sound impressive scarey to me.
Safe travels to Kathryn and Ken, and Lilacs DH as well.

Today I went out to our old retreat center now a rehab. We were allowed acces to the chapel for an hor or so today. Got to see some old friends.

good night
Just begin.
