Kathryn, you have a valid point about his time in life and I see that. You are seeing me as much more of a decision maker over his food than I am, though. My ddad is not particularly feeble, remember. He is very used to giving orders. He eats when he pleases, sleeps when he pleases. He will announce it is time for his supper anywhere between 4 and 8. His entire diet is a compromise on my part if not just my giving up. My attempts at new foods are met with resistance because he wants to eat the same things. He has several favorite food items that he insists on daily or bust, so we keep them stocked, especially the cookies on the counter at all times and the favorite flavor nutrition drink on the counter. Usually, he would be wanting more of his favorite foods, not less of all foods.
So although I'm newly worried about food, the actual arguments are really about the same thing as always - sticking to reality. I point out the evidence - in this instance, that he hasn't eaten, or that the Ensure has not been opened - and he denies it while I point to it. lol It's just a new wrinkle in the ongoing power struggle about reality, and HRH and dd14 still disagree with me on this point. I am determined to keep him grounded, tell him I can see a truth, and insist that he look at it, too. They think I should just agree with anything he says to preserve the peace. (He is so deaf that all conversation gets loud. To actually take time to argue, it can be nerve-wracking to bystanders.)
He did begin to act a little more like himself this early afternoon, deciding to change shirts and laughing at Tobias' "hard life".
Oh,Emp tynester, glad you got good news from dsis.
If you don't believe in miracles, you're not being realistic.
Nearly 1.5 hours after the deadline for my last goal -- I'm finally done and checking in. Everything is taking longer than I think! I guess that is life, huh?
I did get all the errands done and everything put away. I did more too -- I also mixed up some gluten-free bread mix and it is supposedly rising now. I'm very skeptical, though as the yeast was supposed to fizz when mixed with the warm milk -- and it did not. This may be a failed experiment. That is OK. I also toasted some almonds for the salad -- but as I didn't set a timer (both were in use for other items) and I forgot about them with working with the bread, some of the almond slivers are a little TOO toasty right now. . . I think some are salvagable. This meal is sounding like a real winner so far, isn't it? --Ah, one must laugh at oneself. . . . I have also rebooted laundry.
I am almost done with my lunch, a Lean Cuisine. Next, I'll finish making the meal. WF had a huge variety of gluten-free pastas, so I'm forging ahead with my lasagne casserole plan.
My kids all got very cheap simple cell phones when they started riding their bikes to school. I felt they would be safer with a phone on them; they were 10, 12, and 14 that year, and dd10 had the farthest to bike. They never used their phones for much of anything at that point in time. In fact, they lost a couple and we had problems remembering to keep things recharged, etc. But it gave us peace of mind.
I think the hardest part of elder care is that they don't want to be cared for in the sense that they are still the parents isn't it. I can't tell how many times I have heard in the past - I am old enough to do what "I" want and arguments are part of the program many times even in the most patient of caregivers. It is not easy. and when you have both young ones and elderly parents it is a difficult situation many times. ((()))
Back from singing. It was a success. Lunch was not (very spicy meatballs and a super dry brownie, after excellent soup and a surprisingly good salad.) The food comes from a nearby, private, nursing home and isn't good advertising IMHO!
I'm taking a moment of quiet before taking ds for his blood work. We offered to draw it here at home and drop it at the clinic (near the church we were singing at) but ds said he'd rather give the blood to the nurse himself!
Mysterious DPC - this person said "it" had been handled and she had decided not to involve me. Something to do with Rabbi as she is not a supporter. Quizzing office manager as to whether she knows anything that has been brewing.
I made another DPC as well.
Another round:
-reboot laundry when ready
-another 15 minutes on statements
-make the bed/straighten MBR
-handle 15 pieces of paper from my stack...

Sadie could you do your work out w/out wts. for your arm / shoulder? At least until it heals a bit.
Harriet I can see your point and the point of your ddaughter and hrh.
I got the food out of the deep freezer for the chickens lunch today and thawed it in the microwave they are enjoying that now.
Trash has been dumped.
I've swept the carport.
Lunch is done.
I do not feel very productive next I need to sweep the traffic areas.
It's a bit warmer today yea for that!
I probably got through at least 15 pieces of paper, if one counts individually. Spent awhile on phone with local social worker follow up - I also left a message for another attorney as the one she recommended hasn't gotten back in touch with me. Also, dneighbors' little girl came over w grandmother to see the ddogs. Good for them as they are bored - no walk this morning, rain stopped for awhile and it's coming down again now....
This time:
-finish temple statements (won't take long)
-clear "hot" kitchen counter as much as possible
-water plants
-take out kitchen garbage and paper for recycling
and I'm off again...

*phew* I spent all afternoon shopping and cooking and some cleaning up after myself in the kitchen. --Still more cleaning up to do!! But I think I put together a really nice meal for dfriends. The bread ended up rising so high in the oven, I had to remove one of the racks. The girls have confirmed that the gluten-free brownies are good.
The meal has been dropped off and the new baby has been oohed and ahhed over. The baby almost didn't make it -- dfriend told me the story. He wasn't breathing on his own for 7 minutes. Now, he is perfectly fine!. Absolutely amazing!! Dd14 has been dropped off at synchro. Dd17 has taken herself to the church to catch a ride to Detroit to help with the tutoring.
Dh will be home soon. He has a church comm. mtg. tonight. I will go to the gym tonight; I may do the elliptical trainer rather than jog on the track. I may also make a run to Target. I need gift tags so I can start wrapping. Got 2 pkgs. from my various orders today.
Next:
-put our lasagne casserole in the oven
-check on lol
-make a salad
The pharmacy just called. My prescription has been approved and is ready for pickup. This is such a relief. I always had to fight my previous doctor over thyroid meds. My tests would be in the normal range, but I was still having symptoms, and he never wanted to mess with it. One time I persuaded him to try an increase, it also solved the infertility I had been plagued with.
