Oh my, Lilac! Poor dgd3. I know how much that can hurt....I think all three of my dsons had their fingers caught in car doors when they were little by either myself or one of their brothers!

Okay, I just had to lol when I read about LO and the dirt! I'm glad your dmom seems to be adjusting. 63 years is a long time! She is a wonderful lady who is doing wonderful things!

Helia & Kathryn.... it was so nice to read that you had such a nice visit. It would be really nice to meet some other SHEs irl! Maybe someday, as you say!

Both dh and I were tired when we got home. He took a nap in his recliner and I watched tv in the bedroom.

Just found this email in my in-box. It made my day. It was even in giant font!

Are we supposed to set up the whole service? (The Church Secretary) thought we were providing everything, prayer of approach, candle lighting verses etc. PLEASE tell me no. I presumed Katherine was doing it.

This is from this week's presider to the chair of worship committee. Apparently, she thought I'd be doing all the tough stuff, the stuff that takes 6 - 15 hours, and she'd just stand up for an hour and present it!

Church woes:

Sunday was a difficult church day. The service went fine at the second service (at our church) but at the first church the presenter (a different volunteer than in the above quote) realized when she turned the page, that she had left the concluding page of the sermon at home so there was no conclusion to the sermon. She couldn't remember how it ended so she couldn't even 'wing it.'

This is the same person who had mentioned to me on Saturday how hard it had been to come up with a service and how she had to combine several sermons into one so “had practically written the whole sermon myself.” She also failed to attribute any of the prayers or the sermon to their authors. So, as far as the congregation is concerned: she either did it all herself and why should we pay Kathryn to do it? or, Kathryn just downloads everything from the internet as well so why should we pay her?

Hopefully, now that two more people appreciate all that goes into the process, they may consider hiring someone to do it. Although, no-one has even twigged to the fact that 6 years ago I did all the summer services on my own without any training at all. It can be done, it is just a lot of work and hard to do if you want to do a good job (which is why I ended up getting educated and am continuing my education at the conference next week.)

They even feel two services is too much so are planning to have one week at one church and one week at another. Many multi-point charges do this and there is nothing inherently wrong with the idea, but since we are being reimbursed by disability insurance for 85% of the minister's salary and we are not paying her mileage allowance, there is more than enough money to hire someone to do the services (and still come out ahead by $2300 per month.) Alternating services was rejected as recently as last October so I was surprised that this was the solution.

They were going to make the change without a board meeting but I see my tough email to the chair pointing out that this had monetary consequences and needed to be approved properly has been heeded and there's a meeting tomorrow night.

I'll write up something and send it to my most trusted friend on the board (the dh of the person who shared the email at the top of this post with me!)

Kathryn, I am laughing out loud at your comments about the shelves by the toilet. As you know, I too find those shelves rather mysterious. . . . I too feel bad that we had such a great time together the same day lucylee experienced such a painful loss. I feel sad thinking about it.

At the ER, they xray-ed the fingers. They weren't broke but they called it a "crushing injury". They taped the 2 fingers together and called it something or other buddy. Dgd3 likes her routines and coming to grandmas house after dance class is a must. As they were leaving the ER, she told dd2 that she would feel better at grandmas. So dd2 brought her over here, picked up the boys and left. She took them home because dgd16 was home to keep an eye on them. Dd2 then went to the shop to get it ready for a party tonight. She picked up dgd2 at daycare and then came for dgd3.

My computer is done. They pressured me into them installing virus protection. It will be $150.00 for 2 years. Dh told me to just have them do it. I can pick it up tomorrow afternoon.

Dm and dsisil had a great visit with my daunt. Dm thought she looked good and is real confident that her surgery will go fine. I talked to daunt for about 40 minutes tonight.

Talked to dhs dsis tonight. She is having a terrible time with her shingles. She says they itch and burn, plus she has a really bad rash with them. Her bloodwork came back fine and she said as soon as the rash broke out, she started feeling better as far as her energy level, etc.

Playing catch up here from Wednesday
Blessed - My Mother did not come to my graduation, though she made the trip for my 2 sisters. Some people are "like that". Changing dental surgery date may not be as easy as one thinks - least that is the case here. My view - make it as special a day as you can without debating the merits of anyone else's decisions.

Agreeing that meeting Kathryn and Ken is like logging into an instant IRL 3D friendship that knows no bounds.

Kathryn - my guess is that your churches need to learn what goes into a worship service, and until they do they will not appreciate the work for the fees applicable.

My thoughts are very much with Lucylee.
