Sir Christopher Wren (1632 - 1723) was an English scientist and mathematician and one of Britain's most distinguished architects, best known for the design of many London churches, including St Paul's Cathedral.
Christopher Wren was born on 20 October 1632 in East Knoyle, Wiltshire, where his father was rector. His father later moved to Windsor and Wren was educated at Westminster School and then Oxford University. He showed an early talent for mathematics and enjoyed inventing things, including an instrument for writing in the dark and a pneumatic machine. In 1657, Wren was appointed professor of astronomy at Gresham College in London and four years later, professor of astronomy at Oxford. In 1662, he was one of the founding members of the Royal Society, along with other mathematicians, scientists and scholars, many of whom were his friends.
Wren's interest in architecture developed from his study of physics and engineering. In 1664 and 1665, Wren was commissioned to design the Sheldonian Theatre in Oxford and a chapel for Pembroke College, Cambridge and from then on, architecture was his main focus. In 1665, Wren visited Paris, where he was strongly influenced by French and Italian baroque styles.
In 1666, the Great Fire of London destroyed much of the medieval city, providing a huge opportunity for Wren. He produced ambitious plans for rebuilding the whole area but they were rejected, partly because property owners insisted on keeping the sites of their destroyed buildings. Wren did design 51 new city churches, as well as the new St Paul's Cathedral. In 1669, he was appointed surveyor of the royal works which effectively gave him control of all government building in the country. He was knighted in 1673.
In 1675, Wren was commissioned to design the Royal Observatory at Greenwich. In 1682, he received another royal commission, to design a hospital in Chelsea for retired soldiers, and in 1696 a hospital for sailors in Greenwich. Other buildings include Trinity College Library in Cambridge (1677 - 1692), and the facade of Hampton Court Palace (1689 - 1694). Wren often worked with the same team of craftsmen, including master plasterer John Groves and wood carver Grinling Gibbons
Wren died on 25 February 1723. His gravestone in St Paul's Cathedral features the Latin inscription which translates as: 'If you seek his memorial, look about you.'

Good morning everyone and happy Wednesday!
Bama, I'm glad DH is improving. We all grieve in different ways, and of course all cats are special, but it sounds as if Tux really.was your "heart cet" so was extra special to you.
Dogged, your balcony sounds perfect , especially with the trellis for privacy.
Today we are forecast another hot sunny day with around 34 C. I dont mind the heat too much if it's a dry heat, but I really don't do well with high humidity. However, today I'm at home, so I can organise my day to suit myself. I need to clean.the.kitchen, and it faces west, so it would be sensible to do that first thing while it's still relatively cool, and before the sun starts streaming thought the windows. I need to pick up my meds, but I think I'll leave that until Friday when it's supposed to be cooler.
I also need to return the football that landed in my garden last night!
Dnextdoorneighbour D's BF A, has his boys staying, and they were "practising" in their garden throughout the evening ( presumably whenever they got bored with the football in on the TV - I think England were.playing? - I heard our national anthem being played - but I'm open to correction on this!) Anyway one.of them got too exuberant.amd the ball sailed.over.tue fence and hit my plants 
They did call out to apologise, but then shot back inside the house, evidently terrified. 
A nice person would , of course, have immediately dropped the ball back over the fence, but by then I'd had enough of the constant "thud" of the ball as it was kicked one to the other, amd rather fancied some.quiet, especially as by then it was nearly 10 pm. They were obviously too scared to ask for it back, so I decided it could.sit on my patio overnight. I'm not entirely evil, so I'll drop it back today, to save them having to.come.amd.ask.for.it. Oh, and it only hit some ground cover, nothing serious. 
DH goes to the office, where they have A/C, so he should be ok. I should say we're.not entirely uncivilised here..Most of the shops have A/C, either to protect their wares (supermarkets) or to encourage people to linger while they get respite from the heat outside, and hopefully spend more ( everywhere else!). Curiously,.the library,.despite a very full and expensive revamp a.few years ago,. doesn't, and as it has a lot of glass,.becomes like a hothouse in summer..

Kittykatt, I’m glad no garden plants or pots were harmed. My aunt lived across the street from a school and balls (plus a lot of trash) found its way into her yard and she would keep the toys lol.
Dogged, enjoy your pleasant summer weather! I’m just glad someone can. The warmth is pretty heavy here, especially for someone like me who stays inside in the air conditioning and has become accustomed to it.
I took some melatonin last night to see how it worked. Apparently it works pretty well. I fell asleep not long after and slept hard but it didn’t last long as now I’m wide awake at 2am. I’m trying things out for when we go on the cruise and I’m forced to sleep in the same room with dh who is a quite noisy sleeper. I had a chat with him yesterday about it and could he please work on it because he usually does as he pleases with no thought to accommodating me. It is very grating to someone who doesn’t like noises. I know he can’t help it but he could take a walk and let me get to sleep first or we could go in shifts, idk but something will have to happen or I will go berserk and it won’t be pretty. How to married couples do this lol. My dog snores but at least he gets into a rhythm and it blends into the background, dh is loud and un-ignorable. Might have to book separate rooms for our next adventures which would be costly.

Set trap for Lola?
Trash round up
Load up donations in car to drop off maybe Friday

Bama, your DAunt sounds quite a character! I'm sorry about the early wake up. Years ago, when I had a bad allergy flare up, I was prescribed piriton, and that meant I definitely slept well, but I felt groggy and "hungover" when I woke up. DH also snores when he has a cold,.his allergies are bad or he's been drinking. As I turn quite homicidal when sleep deprived, he sleeps in the spare.room.on those occasions! The only things I can suggest are ear plugs (there are different types available, you may need to experiment until you find the kind that works for you) and a sleep mask, so your brain thinks it's completely dark, which should help sleep come more easily.
The forecast was right - it's just gone 10.30 am and it's already 29C / 84F. I've had a quick PUPA amd dust upstairs, Fred has had his walk, and I just need to take the rubbish out and dead head a couple of roses in my front garden, which is mostly still in the shade, and then I'll start.on the kitchen, which is still reasonably cool. This afternoon I've earmarked for some jobs that involve sitting down like sending messages to a few people amd designing the invitations for our street.garden party.

Taking a break from the kitchen. I spent longer in my front garden pulling out some campanula that was growing under the front door, and also having a nice long chat with Dnextdoorneighbour C . Dnextdoorneighbour D.came home early, as the nursery where she.works is part time today,. due to the heat. It's now 35 C /95F, with a "feels like" of 40 C /104F , and a red health alert has been declared . I gave her the football, so that's now out of my hands.
