Take Time to Glimmer Thursday PWYC

Post by Twins' Mom »

A glimmer is “a small moment of joy or peace that arises from appreciating everyday experiences.”

Glimmers are the functional opposite of triggers. Instead of evoking stress or anxiety, these micro-moments cue your nervous system to feel safe, calm, and connected.

Common Examples of Glimmers:
Feeling the warmth of the sun on your face
Hearing a favorite song playing unexpectedly
Watching a pet play or hearing a child laugh
Taking a sip of your morning coffee or tea
Noticing a beautiful sunset, flower, or rainbow

That is so interesting, Twins'. Better than wasting time in feeling down or "off", change for our well-being might come through a few known things we can seek out, like getting into some sunshine, petting a dog or cat, or having that perfect cup of coffee and appreciating it. Probably very individual, so we might know other things that are glimmers just for us. Now, what I need is one of those Star Trek type food replicators to ask for my favorite food or drink item, and just pick that up and walk away with it as soon as I say the name.
it occurred to me to come here, and I CUOPed and am no longer feeling so lonely.

Awwww... .. I'm sure it makes us all happy to know it, Mystery! Glad you are home safe after an adventurous trip.

I felt unwell last evening and wondered about the Mexican food, but HRH was fine. We didn't eat exactly the same things, though. Who knows.

I've done more sewing, some of the tedious part. I can tell my back is a bit strained since I was probably tense, but really no problems.

While marking a quilting template and holding it tight, the phone rang. yipes. I'd been putting off the careful work until a time I could be in serious concentration, and the phone hadn't rung all day.

Thankfully, HRH was able to drop what he was doing and get to it. Ds was calling to let us know that police were searching our area for a lady who had driven to a house about a half-mile away, knocked but made no sense, left her vehicle there and just walked off through woods. It was so alarming that the homeowner called the police worried. Police wanted the neighboring homes to watch for this lady with "erratic behavior". Happily, the lady was found later by the police, so I hope whatever the situation is, some sense can be made of her needs and someone who knows her can be found.

I'm taking this a.m. as some recuperation time from feeling so lousy last evening. I'll baby my tummy and consider a small bowl of cereal.

Good morning
A glimmer is “a small moment of joy or peace that arises from appreciating everyday experiences.”
Sometimes I wonder if SHEs can see through the screen what I am working on. I have been searching for a phrase or a word to describe & inspire a list of small things that I didn't want to do, but I dug deep and got them done. Glimmer! Somedays the "I don't wanna" attitude flares and I rebel against doing them. Sometimes I need something to get me past that don't wanna moment. It feels good to do those tasks and receive an Attagirl for doing them.

Today's project is decluttering the shed. So many things in there that are never used. The biggest hurtle is to get rid of about half dozen 40 lbs bags of chemicals for the yard the previous owner left....over a decade ago!!!! There is also a couple of long shelves that have bottles of chemicals the owner left that hasn't been touched. I don't use chemicals, so they have ignored for WAY too long. The main purpose of the shed is storing the zero turn mower and the various push mowers and weed eaters. Everything else in the shed is subject to being decluttered. I suspect this is going to be a two day project....at least.

Glimmers: picking little ripe tomatoes with dew still on them. And speaking to a neighbor this a.m. while walking - and her earrings sparkled in the sunshine!

Today I have workout at two - along with trip to post office and glass recycling while I'm out, and we're due at a baseball game in the 6:30 range.

I've mostly piddled although I have accomplished a few things: mailed check for DAR dues, paid a toll from May trip online, and tried to start the Roomba. It is not cooperating today. I have rebooted it to erase everything it thinks it knows and trying again. It was basically spinning around stationery earlier.

Realized I should go ahead and write the checks for the tree work at the cemetery. I got a transfer into the cemetery account from the congregation instead of waiting until she writes checks at end of the month, they get signed, and then mailed to me.

After having a morning of intense rain plus fog, AKA being extremely overcast, the sun just glimmered through the clouds as the rain stoped as I was walking from my car to the door.

I have always enjoyed looking at the sky and looking at clouds and trees and flowers, etc. Numerous report cards had the word "day dreamer" on them over my 12 years in school.

On phone waiting. Estimated wait time is 10 minutes
Family doctor office called to say a regular medical appointment was refused by Medicare because it says not the primary insurance anymore. Huh? She asked if we had started working again that would trigger Medicare to switch to secondary insurance. Nope. So now we have to call Medicare and tell them nothing has changed so quit messing up our coverage. ***sigh*** The lady who file the insurance charges said Medicare recently made changes to about 2 million accounts, and she suspects they mistakenly changed our coverage.
.......didn't hit submit so this sat here........

46 minutes later the issue has hopefully been fixed.

Good afternoon! Have not done too much today -- stayed up too late last night & so ended up getting up late this morning.

I'm going to have to figure out a good time and type of alarm to set to take my Wegovy. It is supposed to be taken half an hour to (preferably) an hour before anything else, including other meds, and the thyroid medication is supposed to be taken half an hour to (preferably) an hour before eating, so if I don't take it early enough, it pushes breakfast quite late. I had been taking it when waking to use the bathroom at about 5 am, but lately, I've been waking about 3 instead, and that seems much too early. I want something that will rouse me reliably (I'm great at sleeping through alarms) without rousing me so much that I can't get back to sleep. Will require some noodling and experimentation.

Glimmers will also require some noodling.

I don't envy you cleaning out that shed, LadyM! Are there any particular procedures you're supposed to use for dealing with the chemicals?

Cathy, when you go to Oakville, do you always go to the same place? More specifically, have you ever gone to Stoney's? We discovered it on one of our trips to see family, and returned a couple of times. It makes me a little sad that we will likely never go there again. DH's aunt passed away and left the bulk of her estate to the church; the old farmhouse that served as a summer cottage is likely to go to the gravelers, and the little family remaining in Canada is scattered. DBIL and family are near Brantford, so we have little reason to head toward Toronto.

I have a couple of things on my agenda today -- a virtual appointment with the nutritionist in about half an hour and dinner out with book club this evening. I will probably wait lunch until after the nutritionist, since I had such a late breakfast.

MysteryWoman my friend likes to go to the large mall on the north side of the highway at Trafalgar Road, I'll have to look up Stoney's.

I had a long nap this afternoon. I was reading, but dh came in and as soon as He started snoring, I put down my book and fell asleep. His doctor's would love if he could do a sleep apnea test, but he refuses it every time they both ask.

I have a cat that has started spending time on my desk. As soon as I sit here, she wants to be on the keyboard. The smallest cat slept at my feet the entire time I was in bed (2 hours) All 3 of my cats purr a lot.

I had a decent workout - lots of stretching, some strength. I nearly talked myself out of going entirely so I did well to get there. I went on to the post office but hadn't loaded up the glass recycling so I could drop it off. I was able to vent a little to the gal trainer - I'm too busy, been out of town too much, and dh just sits around.

And we're going to baseball game tonight. Told dh I wasn't showering again to go to a baseball game in nearly 90 degrees.

Cathy, a nap sounds so good. Can you still sleep at night when you nap? And adding that I was a daydreamer too, although perhaps it was the "quiet" version of ADHD.

Mystery, was glad to see you check in on Tuesday? and enjoy catching up with us. Shouldn't be lonely here, although we're kind of light on posting lately.

Ugh, LadyM, did you get your Medicare straightened out? And do have special disposal methods for the chemicals? I'm impressed you're cleaning out the shed in the heat, too. Your June decluttering has been strong!

What kind of crafting are you doing for the fourth, Nancy? Sounds like fun!

Waving to Harriet and hoping the back hasn't tightened up too much. My massage therapist recommends lying flat on the floor on one's back to let gravity do some loosening up.
