Re: Eero Saarinen Sunday
Eero Saarinen ( August 20, 1910 – September 1, 1961) was a Finnish-American modernist architect and industrial designer celebrated for his sweeping, futuristic structural curves.
Saarinen's work includes the General Motors Technical Center, the Dulles International Airport Main Terminal, the TWA Flight Center at John F. Kennedy International Airport, the Vivian Beaumont Theater at Lincoln Center, the Gateway Arch, and the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center.
Saarinen became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1940. During his career, Saarinen was elected a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects and served on the National Institute of Arts and Letters.

Re: Eero Saarinen Sunday
Good morning everyone and happy Sunday!
Gma, thank you so much for the advice about electrolytes. We always have bananas, and *M very fond of cantaloupe melon.
Dogged,.if you and the apartment are both clean, then that's achieving.
I'm glad you had a good time, Helia .
LOL at DD sleeping in.so long,.L.Ann
KitKat, over here, there is a colour code.for dog leads amd tabards to warn other dog owners of the dog has certain issues. Iirc, it's yellow if a dog is anxious or reactive.. This sends a message to other dog walkers that your dog needs space..If course, the.s8ccess.does.depe.d.on other dog walkers respecting the convention!
I got caught up.with my jobs round.the.hoise yesterday, and had some.garden.time. Bit there was yet another crisis with the coffees last evening
and then next door came.h9me from their football party ( I gather England were playing ) early amd separately,.as they'd had a huge fight, and continued with the TV showing the football on loud ( everyone has their windows open ATM) so sleep was elusive . On the.brighr.sode, at least I could be sure that D wasn't.in danger.
Today is church - I need to help with the coffees- but I have said I cant stay too long as I have promised to visit DF E. After that,.DH is taking me.out.foe lunch.as there is another church event this afternoon. He is going as the choir will be singing. I'm planning.a nap quietly at homre!

Re: Eero Saarinen Sunday
Good morning, SHE-ville!
kittykatt, I bet that old stone church will feel heavenly in this weather!
Frenchie, glad you survived the heatwave!
Ours is culminating today. Record temperatures were observed yesterday - 40.9C (105.6F) - the old record was 40.4C (104.7F). And it's supposed to get hotter today!
So... yesterday was the very perfect weather for a noon outdoor funeral, right? But we survived, both being outside in dark clothes, and the family lunch in a restaurant without A/C. It did wipe us out, though! DH was playing inteference between SIL and me, but she wasn't any more interested in talking to me than I was to her, so all went well. Finally met some of DH's cousins, they seem like nice people (nobody attended our wedding, and not even SIL's wedding which was local - they aren't really a close family, it seems).
We skipped going to the cottage - I just can't do any more planning right now. Plus there's cherries to be processed - the tree went crazy this year, so I have 17 large jars of canned cherries, 12 jars of jam so far, a dehydrator loaded with cherries, and still about half a basket left! And the currants are close to being ripe. And we're leaving next Saturday!
Gonna have to take it slow today, and avoid cooking till later in the day. The dehydrator is set in the garage, BTW
TaDas
- slower morning
- internet time
- breakfast and coffee
- reading time
ToDos
- morning routine
- 30 minute downstairs reset
- put away laundry

Re: Eero Saarinen Sunday
Good morning and thank you for the educational start!
Funny SHEM - Kittykatt - I was just staring at the trees my neighbours have just planted... a row of them, not quite understanding the need- there are several huge trees in their yard (which is fairly small..)
Colour coding is a good idea. - but may not stop a lot of people... Explicit "no" does little with some people... I had arguments with a man who wanted my pup to " socialize" with his...
If I can do more walks with DD (and her Shepherd) we should be OK... People don't approach her
Enjoy lunch with DH
"heavenly church" - what an expression, trissie
I saw the smartest item on your list: 30 min rest!
I can't imagine canning in that heat and you've been doing it diligently!
Yesterday afternoon was wonderfully productive. I made good progress in the basement (a whole lot more to do but I reached a point where I'm starting to see results and that makes me want to do more.) It was a good idea to break it down to 2 containers at a time.
I found two beautiful books (old ones of DD) -that my DGD will enjoy .
We also went for a long walk (over 1 hr) with DD and our pups. They are the same age, just a couple of months apart.
Let's get the morning started:
lol
med
D2Ex
take pup for short walk
feed
gym

◕‿◕ * * * Good Morning! * * * ◕‿◕
trissie, what a non-ideal wather for a noon funeral. Sorry SIL doesn't make it easy on your family. "Glad" to hear other parts of the family aren't closely knit either, it sort of "confirms" that the dysfunctional part isn't your part of it. Good luck on the food processisng, I envy your motivation.
Kittykatt, I hope you can have your nap. If you don't have a home cooked Sunday lunch, can you share the restaurant's menu ?
I always enjoy cooking inspiration.
kitkat WTG on the basement work ! It seems you have the good rhythm for optimal productivity, I hope you can keep it going.
I didn't post again yesterday. Kids wanted their parents' attention, then MrNG took them to some sports fair where they played tennis and table tennis while I relaxed and did nothing useless stuff online. Then we had a shared dinner with our DNeighbours, 15 people, not the same as the other ones since there are two sets of neighbourhood and we are among the luck few to be invited to both. MrNG cooked ratatouille, we brought the bread and ice-cream for dessert. The neighbour who diid the grilling of meat is selling his grilling plancha online, and we were precisely looking for one, so we agreed on a price. MrNG will go tonight to get the plancha, I need to go to the ATM to get some cash.
It's much fresher now. I hope we're done with the heat for a while. So many deaths in Europe this past week.
TADAs
up late, bfast
some dandelion-busting
cleaned the patio (in ordre to "welcome" the new plancha)
played with kids, various games, and talked - they like to talk with me
lol in, lol out
lunch was leftover ratatouille with white fish, delicious
mostly cleaned up
cuop
light coffee
TODOs
go to ATM to get cash to buy plancha
more time in garden ?
hand-wash some clothes
also
walk or move or exercise
check the weekly list
make list for the upcoming week (include gifts for teachers and FIFA soccer game on Tuesday 11pm)
oversee homework
dinner will be things from the freezer, we have many leftovers
I will probably BBL

Re: Eero Saarinen Sunday
Wow, Kittykatt. I was just reading along thinking I didn't know the architects' work, and boom, there is the photo to knock off socks. My HRH has intense, if not exactly fond, memories of several trips there when he was taking courses for work. He remembers being so impressed. Thanks - I did not know all that info!
helia, you and dh had a lovely hike and time together. I hope today is special for you two. You have an adventurous partnership. Belated congratulations to your dd28 for her two happy accomplishments. Perhaps my ddolder's family will someday read her work. Their coffee table always seems to have a new stack of books and there is often a cover that surprises with art that hints there's fantasy in those pages.
Gma, thank you for wise thoughts about electrolyte depletion. On the subject of bananas, I find that most folks settle for partial info about their potassium content - thank you for putting it into words so well. Sure, they have it, but potatoes are better, juice of an orange ideal. I had a prof once who liked to remind that in the long list of potassium containing foods, banana is in the middle beside Reese's Pieces candy, lol. I am right now on a potassium supplement, which doesn't make sense to me but has to do with needing to recuperate from medical oddities for a while - I will be glad when that is over. What a lovely morning for you yesterday, to get to tie a quilt along with others at church for missions. Sometime, tell us about their projects in our Art Craft Needlework topic.
