The Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos) is a large and heavy-looking duck (51-62 cm). It has a long body, and a long and broad bill. The male has a dark green head, a yellow bill, is mainly purple-brown on the breast and grey on the body. The female is mainly brown with an orange bill. Mallards breed in all parts of the UK in summer and winter, wherever there are suitable wetland habitats, although it is rarer in upland areas. In the UK, Mallards may be resident breeders or migrants – many of the birds that breed in Iceland and northern Europe spend the winter here.
At the tail-feather-end of spring, the breeding season blends seamlessly into a race to rear young, and family favourite the Mallard, is no exception. Mallards can breed in suitable weather from February, but June is best for spotting fluffy ducklings.
Mallard mothers can be seen proudly promenading up to 13 ducklings on bodies of fresh water across the UK. During this time, she alone will raise them, offering protection and teaching them all they need to know to strike out on their own.

Well, the only Duck Mallard I know is Ducky Mallard from the NCIS series, kittykatt! 
Summer hols start today, which means DH and I will be alternating home office days, and Mondays are always in-office days for him as he has several important meetings (he could do them online if need be, but prefers to do them in person). Poor guy, since he got promoted a couple years ago, he has to spend so much time in meetings and so little time doing the work he loves to do! But he does like his manager-level paycheck, though
Weather forecast today - 30C (86F) tops and thunderstorms later in the day. We shall see! It's 8am and my phone says it's 28C already.

Good morning, Trissie! You have a long list for today and sound very organised. I think that's probably a recurring theme with promotion - more meetings and less time to spend on those aspects of the job one really enjoys.
We're supposed to reach 21 C today,.and the weather this week is described as "unsettled" - typical English summer weather.
Next week *may* start to get hot again, but I don't have a huge amount of faith in the long term forecast, so like you, we will see! 
DH has gone to the office,.with instructions.to ring PS (from church) at his garage and arrange a quote for the car. The clutch is going, and is almost certainly need to be replaced.
(According to the hand book it should have lasted at least another 10k miles, before needing to be replaced so I'm not sure what is going on there!). I had hoped that it would last until DH retires, when he plans to replace the car anyway, but yesterday (fortunately when he was driving!) it was definitely getting much, much worse. I really do not want to get stranded when it finally gives out, especially if I'm on my own with Freddie in the car. But, being Mrs Machiavelli™, I stressed to DH how inconvenient it would be for *him* if the clutch went when he was driving to or from volunteering on the hermitage steam railway (about 20 miles away), as he would be stranded in the middle of nowhere, and being male, he would be low priority for the RAC recovery,.so would likely have to wait ages. That focused his attention!
Taking it to the main dealer where we usually go would cost a small fortune, so I suggested taking it to D, who lives in the next road, and who operates from DF CW's garage,.which he rents from her. (He has done.work.on her car, which she is happy with). DH had never heard of D (really?!),.so was understandably not keen on the idea,.but it focused his mind,.and he remembered that PS,.who sings in the church choir with him, works at a garage. I also pointed out that if we get the clutch fixed it buys us time, as this way we won't be desperate for a new-to-us car as soon as he retires, but can take our time and wait for the right one to come along. And, if we wait until the end of October,.when the MOT is due, and get that done, we will get a much, much better price for our existing car with 12 months MOT,.whether we sell privately or part exchange. ( Also, if we end up selling the car to friends like we did last time,.I would feel happier selling something which should be reliable.)
So, today,.I'm going to need to do some financial juggling. I used AI yesterday evening to give me an idea of the cost using an independent garage, giving it all the relevant details, and, if it's accurate, it should be doable with a little juggling . In theory it would be sensible to wait until we've had a quote from a real person, but, today I'm on my own with no interruptions or "helpful " comments, so in practice it makes sense to do it now. ( I've already told DH we are *not* touching the money I've saved for the work on the house roof later this summer, as the roof takes priority over the car, and having arranged with L to come and do the work, I am *not* delaying him! And there's also the possibility he might want to come early - it's happened before.)
Being realistic, if necessary, I can walk into town for my appointments this week, and take an Uber or similar for Freddie's next Solensia appointment later in July - I'm not changing that either, after all the difficulty in booking it!
Other than that,.it's just the usual housework, garden and walking for me today. Just had a.notification that.Royal Mail are intending to deliver the cat food order this morning,.so I need to get into the shower now!

LOL trissie! I'm just starting my day too! I'm taking a leisurely morning because I can and because I need to get some space in my life.
Smart thinking to get dh looking into a new car, Kitty. We have mallards here too! The river along which I regularly run is full of them. And Canadian geese and swans - 2 species of them. I prefer the trumpeters which are native here. In the winter, we see more varieties of ducks/ waterbirds. I think they're migrating and stopping by the river OR this is "south" for them.
NO houseguests on the calendar this week - until M's friend/s arrive on Friday. M isn't sure if 1 friend is coming.
This looks like a pretty normal week, week 1 of a new session at work which is a bit more payroll work than usual. BUT I think it will be good to get back into a regular routine. We are scheduled to go camping in Canada with CG1 next weekend, but because the park is only a 2 hour drive away, we're thinking of either staying only 1 night (others are staying 3 nights) OR making it a day trip. The weather looks iffy - really hard to tell. There will be scattered thunderstorms in the area all weekend.
Our warm week is beginning. High of 91F today (32.8C).
Yesterday afternoon and evening were again quite social: CG2 3:30 - 6ish, then dinner for all 6:30 - 8:15ish. M made chili, rice, and salad for everyone, which was very generous of her. She also cooked for us Saturday night. She IS very helpful; I shouldn't complain. Then, we had the family zoom call 8:30 - 9:30-ish. The Cs joined us! They're like family. I got all the towels washed yesterday - 2 loads full. M folded them all for me. She needed the dryer - still, she didn't have to. Now we have clean kitchen towels again.
Today, I'm meeting B for my bday lunch at 11:30. I'm also working on payroll S6 prep today. Exercise would be good. I need to get groceries and do some laundry. Dinner will be from the freezer - I haven't decided which meal yet.

Smart thinking to get dh looking into a new car, Kitty. We have mallards here too! The river along which I regularly run is full of them. And Canadian geese and swans - 2 species of them. I prefer the trumpeters which are native here. In the winter, we see more varieties of ducks/ waterbirds. I think they're migrating and stopping by the river OR this is "south" for them.
NO houseguests on the calendar this week - until M's friend/s arrive on Friday. M isn't sure if 1 friend is coming.
This looks like a pretty normal week, week 1 of a new session at work which is a bit more payroll work than usual. BUT I think it will be good to get back into a regular routine. We are scheduled to go camping in Canada with CG1 next weekend, but because the park is only a 2 hour drive away, we're thinking of either staying only 1 night (others are staying 3 nights) OR making it a day trip. The weather looks iffy - really hard to tell. There will be scattered thunderstorms in the area all weekend.
Our warm week is beginning. High of 91F today (32.8C).
Yesterday afternoon and evening were again quite social: CG2 3:30 - 6ish, then dinner for all 6:30 - 8:15ish. M made chili, rice, and salad for everyone, which was very generous of her. She also cooked for us Saturday night. She IS very helpful; I shouldn't complain.
Then, we had the family zoom call 8:30 - 9:30-ish. The Cs joined us! They're like family. I got all the towels washed yesterday - 2 loads full. M folded them all for me. She needed the dryer - still, she didn't have to. Now we have clean kitchen towels again. Today, I'm meeting B for my bday lunch at 11:30. I'm also working on payroll S6 prep today. Exercise would be good. I need to get groceries and do some laundry. Dinner will be from the freezer - I haven't decided which meal yet.

Thank you for starting us off, Kittykatt. I used to have a pet Mallard duck when I was child. His name was Daffy, and I remember being told off by him regularly, just like Daffy and Donald Duck. We got him because when the men were hunting, somebody winged him. When the dog brought a live duck back, nobody had the heart to finish him off so my father brought him home as a pet for the kids. Looking back as an adult, I realize that this was a wild animal who did not consent to the attentions of a three year old child and he probably had a valid basis for his complaints.

I actually did a slow afternoon, because the atmospheric pressure dropping is wrecking a havoc with my pressure too, so after I got done and showered (again! it's just that kind of day), I went to lay down for a bit.
