Re: Trial by Jury Thursday
Trial by Jury is a famous one-act comic opera , with music by Arthur Sullivan and libretto by W. S. Gilbert. It was first produced on 25 March 1875, at London's Royalty Theatre, where it initially ran for 131 performamces.
Trip by Jury satirizes the Victorian legal system through a chaotic, humorous "breach of promise of marriage" lawsuit in which the judge and jurors abandon impartiality to involve themselves in the drama. The story unfolds in a courtroom where the plaintiff, Angelina, is suing her former fiancé, Edwin, for calling off their wedding. Angelina arrives in her bridal wear, immediately winning the sympathy of the jury and the easily-swayed Judge.
Realizing the court is entirely against him, Edwin attempts to defend his actions by admitting he became bored with Angelina and fell for someone else.Desperate to avoid paying damages, Edwin offers a chaotic compromise: he proposes to marry Angelina today and his new lover tomorrow. The Judge and jury object, and the situation only escalates when Edwin claims to be a drunkard and threatens to "thrash" her.
To resolve the ludicrous stalemate, the Judge steps down from the bench and declares he will marry Angelina himself. The absurd resolution satisfies everyone involved, and the case is closed.
The link below gives a quick, animated look at how this musical comedy satirizes the Victorian legal system and traditional romance:

Re: Trial by Jury Thursday
Good morning, everyone, and happy Thursday!
L.Ann, I hope today goes better for you.
Gma, I'm so glad you're enjoying the opera time this week! Yesterday.sounded very good.for you - I'm glad BF BS is content amd well cared for and that her only request was simple to fulfil. How nice that DBro and DSisil are coming to stay for a while.
Today, DF PM is coming to pick me up for chirch, so I have a little more time than usual. Maybe I can get a little done outside? I have the podiatrist this afternoon, and then will need to walk back home in 30+ degree heat..However, I can take a "shortcut" through the public gardens, which will cut off a big chunk of High Street, and I shall take a water bottle.with me and also an umbrella, to act as a sunshade!

Re: Trial by Jury Thursday
I've never heard of this opera before, Kitty, but it sounds delightfully humorous! I do like Gilbert and Sullivan.
I hope you've had a lovely morning at church.
I saw you got back here, Bama! Yay!!
Come play here today too!
I need to be otd in 7 minutes but I'll do a quick summary post here first. I'll post lists after WW.
Yesterday was a lot for me on 6 hours of sleep, but everything went well. The 2 EPTs were interesting, 2 high school students in Taiwan traveling here next week, and I conveyed the important information to our school's admin team. My tutee seems to be warming up to me, which is helpful. I had several activities ready that revolved around soccer/ football. My class was also good; I have very engaged students so they had a couple really good discussions. I actually took a short nap when I got home from payroll. I did not make it to the gym, but I did pick up some items from WF and got a nice meal of teriyaki salmon, steamed asparagus, and rice on the patio table.
Today, I need to catch up on things that have been pushed to the back burner. I'm behind on payroll GGT and laundry. I have 2 more payroll meetings: a phone call with the director at 11, a check in meeting with AC on zoom at 11:30. I'm working out with my trainer AS at 2 pm and dh and I have reservations for my birthday dinner at 6:30.
I like these days that are a little bit of different activities.
OK, I'm off to WW first. My scale says I'm down 0.8 since last weigh in. We'll see what theirs says. It varies widely - both directions.

Re: Trial by Jury Thursday
Good morning Kittykatt ! I must admit - I have never heard of this opera... must check it out. Sounds like the heat does not quit... Make sure you are drinking.
helia It is nice to look forward to birthday dinner
I have an even busier day (than the beginning of the week): all 3 DGDs are coming: 2 in the morning, the little one in the afternoon.
I foolishly agreed to a chat with Dfriend at 10 - will see if it works out...
I was dead tired yesterday, forgot to set alarm. (I was planning to take out ddog for walk early...) It looks like she doesn't care: just napping. (She got a play day yesterday)
Must clean the fruit/veg drawers in fridge
I have a class tonight
Garb/rec must go to curb tonight
I shall try to get myself together and start the day.

Re: Trial by Jury Thursday
Well I am not sure this one is better, kittykatt. I had a careful morning planned so that we could get everything done by swim lessons, Then Little Bit all of the sudden said I am going to throw up so plans changed. We came home and she is bathed and changed and a load of laundry is going. She seems to feel fine so maybe what she ate just didn’t sit well but we won’t swim since we can’t risk contaminating the pool.

Hi, all. My df and I made it to the hospital on time, and my car has been cooperative, so a good day. My df is just having her appointment now.
