Gma, ideally I would like to get Freddie's nails done before his appointment on Wednesday, but I would rather not sedate him (even lightly!) in this heat, so I may leave it until the west cools down.

Dogged, thank you for the maggi explanation - they do sound tasty. I'm sorry the cheap vegetable pick up didn't work out. Do you have the Olio app? That can be a good source of free food that's being given away but the supermarkets etc as it's nearly reached its expiry date.

Yesterday I had a big clear up in the kitchen as it was bad, and took everything out that didn't belong there. Even DH noticed the difference! I then folded some.of the laundry that was dry enough to PA, and mended a small hole in my top. . Then when my back garden was finally in the shade,.and it had cooled from the high of 30C to a more pleasant 25 C, I deadheaded and weeded out there, and fed all the pots, sprayed the roses, and spent some time sitting out there messaging with DF PM (she had some news to tell me, and also needed to borrow a cake box - I've put one with my bag ready for Sunday, so I don't forget).

Today DH is going out with his friends. I need to bake early before the kitchen gets too hot. There's still some laundry left to fold and it would be good to spend even a little time decluttering, as I can see "stuff" is starting to build up a bit in some places - it either needs to find a "proper" home, or go OTD. I also need to water - early out the front and later on in the back garden - so I think I will find.plenty to keep occupied today!

Kittykatt, thanks for the start. Oh, at least one book in today's week that I have read (or, started). Finding the right time to garden is difficult these days, it's either very early or very late in the day. Is it your dessert for tomorrow that you will be baking ?

Sorry for those suffering from the wildfire smoke, helia, L.Ann... I hope it's not damaging for the health. I suppose it can be kind of depressing too, to witness nature / wilderness being destroyed in such large areas.

I'm not really CUOPed although I peeked in now and then during the week. We had an extended weekend in St Nazaire for the 14th July-weekend (Bastille day). Sad that most fireworks were cancelled due to forest fires or the very high heat. I hope we can see fireworks later in the summer.
The heat is now bearable again, there were storms on Thursday, they helped water trees and gardens and fields, so that's good. And our water cistern is half-full.
Many to-dos this weekend, but not too much cleaning because MrNG invited some friends for dinner on Thursday and cleaned the Entrance, LR and kitchen, also the patio, before they arrived.

Good afternoon, FFB! I hope you had a lovely long weekend away, despite the heat. How helpful of Mr NG to have done some of the cleaning.

I'm going to bake a cake for us and make a dessert for tomorrow while the kitchen is still cool (it faces west, so ATM I'm trying to do as little as possible in there later in the day!). The cake is just for us to have something sweet during the week. IMHO,ost shop bought cakes here are expensive, far too sweet, amd often have questionable ingredients. ( I remember going to the patisserie when I was in France withy aunt as a child, and they sold the most wonderful sweets baked goods. Not sure if that is still a thing?)

I've enjoyed my tiny front garden while it was still cool out there , and now I really need to get on with the baking.
