Re: Make Your Mark Saturday
For me, today marks the last day of payroll before two weeks holidays!
I'm actually planning on going in a bit early so I can get a couple of things wrapped up properly before I leave, otherwise they'll just sit there and still need to be dealt with when I get back.
In the interests of effective use of time, I'm only going to plan on washing the dishes, folding the basket of laundry (and putting it away *sigh*), and doing basic critter care before work today. I'll get started on that as soon as I finish my cup of coffee.

Re: Make Your Mark Saturday
Oh, I know how to "Make Your Mark" on the last quarter! Post for accountability and challenge in the new-month village threads!
Actually, that's what I've got to do. I need to "Make My Mark" on some goals, for sure.
bittersweet, a 2-week vacation! Yay for you. Prayers for all simple and good outcomes for dd and VIP bundle! You'll be so tickled.
It is cool here, with a low in the mid-40s, and tonight it dips into the 30s, so we'll be turning the heat on this evening. Then the temps pop back up, but we can't fool around with leaving the heat off because of my ddad.

Re: Make Your Mark Saturday
I am trying to make my 'mark' by becoming even more organized. I've been fiddling with my cards, trying to make 'pockets of time' for different categories. Seems the demands of each day are so varied and some I simply don't get to.
Tummy's on the fritz this a.m. so think I'll just be staying in. Right now it's chilly and rainy anyway. Not even s2s yet!
Found out yesterday that dsgd is now getting married on October 15th -so guess I have 2 weeks to a wedding. Not sure what that's all about -date was set for June 2nd. Know where my mind goes but almost wonder if her future husband may be going away to seminary. Guess I'll know eventually.
Took dsgd12 to the hospital for her burn treatment -she was NOT looking forward to it -understandably. Hoping it's healing well so she doesn't have to go back too much longer. Burns were 3rd degree for the most part.
Wonder how much racing dgs6 will be doing today. Sure it's cool and wet there too.

Chilly and wet here too. I need to get in a jog today. I may go down to the river anyway or I may renew my membership at the gym. Dh runs outside all winter long, but I'm not sure I'm going to be doing that.
Making my mark. . .I need to get caught up on laundry! I had wanted to get caught up on some yardwork, but it isn't looking too inspiring out there. I also need to pay some attention to the MBR -- and I need to study Hebrew. I want to get out of the habit of doing most of my studying and homework the day before.
Dfriend whom I usually meet with on Fridays will come by this afternoon to hang out with us. She hasn't been feeling well on several different levels; we didn't meet yesterday. Hopefully, being around our family will be helpful to her. Tonight is small group - as is every Saturday night between our 2 small groups - but we are not hosting, and I'm not leading.
Dh is leading, so he'll need to put in some prep time. And it is at friends S and R's home, which is about a 5 minute walk from here.
A.m. routine is steaming along. I also finally put up a web album of our hut tour in the Alps this past summer. I still need to do Italy and the Netherlands, but this part of our trip had the most photos - and the most people, too. Maybe I'll post a link in the members only thread, if anyone is interested. I'll look into that.
Then, I'll finish my a.m. routine and have some devotional time.

Re: Make Your Mark Saturday
My only mark is a dent in the bed. But I spent from 7:10 to 8:50 finishing off my book, not snoozing, so I did accomplish something.
I'm s2s and have a load of laundry on. I've tidied the bedroom and put an extra blanket on because it is really cold at night now (it was 60+ and humid through the night earlier this week so I had the ceiling fan on, now it is barely over freezing and my light duvets are still on the bed, hard to know when to make the change.) The bed was a mess since dh and I had been rolling ourselves up in the duvets to stay warm.
I'm going to make carrot soup for lunch today. I'm in a real cooking mood these days. That's nice but I should be in a paperwork mood.

Re: Make Your Mark Saturday
Good morning! I can't believe we're heading into the last three months of the year, and that tax season follows.
I need to get rolling - I think I'll get out of pajamas and head to grocery first today. I'd like to also stop by the town library, and later, do some clean out of the clutter in the built in cabinets in my family room. (I''m storing house "accessories" there and have a lot sitting out needing to be put away.)
Temp in the house was down to 63 degrees downstairs this morning, I turned on the heat for just a few minutes to be sure it would come on when we really need it. Took the chill off, at least.

Re: Make Your Mark Saturday
Carrot soup is to the boiling stage.
I seriously don't know what has gotten into me. I was reading the grocery ads yesterday and saw they had carrot-ginger soup, organic, in a 1 litre tetra pack for $2.99. I thought, mmmmmm. I've never had carrot ginger soup but for some reason it appealed to me.
So I hit google and found a recipe I thought I could make.
Apparently you make this with ginger root, not the ground ginger in my spice cabinet and this recipe also uses butternut squash.
When I was out buying the buttermilk and bran for the muffins I was making last night, I checked out squash and they had butternut and buttercup and not remembering which it was, I bought one of each.
Then, when I started the squash roasting this morning (first of 5 steps to make this soup) I realized I didn't have ginger root so went over to the closest store for that.
Despite intending to give up 'white' for the next while, in the last 24 hours I've bought a bag of sugar, flour, and potatoes! And I'm low on rice but my regular store for that is far away. All the other items were on sale cheap and I was low or out of all them so it made sense in a convoluted way. The sugar and flour won't go on sale again until Christmas baking season and if I want to bake earlier for that (i.e. church events) I'd end up paying full price so I stocked up.
Also bought an apple for $1 from one of the boys from church. It is Scout Apple Day here.
So I'm now up to step 3 of the recipe, boiling the carrots, ginger, squash, onions and garlic for at least 20 minutes. Step 4 is blender and Step 5 is reheat the blended soup and serve. I can't decide if the house smells good or not. I may have used too much ginger, that's the dominate smell despite having cooked the onions and garlic in oil.
Oh, btw, $2.99 is excellent value considering how much work this is!

Re: Make Your Mark Saturday
HELLO!!!
I'm home!!!
We got in about 1:00 a.m., and -- thanks to dh being OCD
-- got EVERYTHING put away before we went to bed. Of course, there is a BUNCH of laundry to be done, but at least it is out of the garment bag & sorted into the laundry baskets.
We really had a wonderful time. The weather was just beautiful the whole week, the festival was really nice, and everything seemed to go perfectly.
DH said on the way home... "Now. What will we be returning to?" Dmil of course reported via phone calls that all was well at their house, but she has been known to have caregivers leave in tears, all the while claiming that she has no idea what she said or did that upset them. * sigh *
We've had breakfast & got the mail. I must s2s & go visit dmom. Ddad said he was taking his car to a local car show today. He has been leaving her alone for short periods, but I told him I'd come out for a little while today. Also have to go by the grocery store & CVS... & the bank... *sigh * Coming home is always such a let-down after a trip.
Dmom reportedly is doing VERY well. Still has the catheter, but returns to doctor (surgeon) Monday, and says she is ready to be rid of the catheter and return to self-cathing if necessary. She has been walking their driveway with her walker, and their driveway is LONG and goes up a pretty steep hill. She said three trips took her about 20 minutes, but I am totally AMAZED that she is able to do that much so soon.
I've missed y'all! I'm still trying to cuop -- but I did want to send ((BIG HUGS))) and feel better soon wishes to blessed!

Re: Make Your Mark Saturday
It's a balmy and rather stuffy 60* here this morning.
My bs is up a bit today.
My chili was not as good last time with out sausage
so I got some last night to add as a side on the last of this batch.
I was lucky enough to find half off deli-chicken last night shopping at the store
so I have a meal plan for this week! This is a real treat for us.
Got a letter off in the mail this morning are my marks! LOL!
