Flexible Friday

Post by OKay »

The ruby-throated hummingbird is a picture of flexibility as it uses whatever position or direction necessary to carry out its work. It can fly backward, forward, up, down, sideways or just hover in one place.

I'm learning to be flexible in some of the ways I do things. It has been a good experience in that it has forced me to evaluate how I do things and many times finding a better (healthier) way of doing even the simplest of tasks. I admire so many of you who have overcome challenges and used inventive and flexible ways of accomplish goals.

Oh boy I like flexible Friday. For me it has been a learning process over time.

Jake and I had our walk and got my mail.

It is cold but beautiful.

Today is just puttering for me.

I am up and at em' this morning but not trying to follow my schedule. I am doing things at a relaxed pace which allows me to get things done and remain within the doctor guidelines while healing.

Last night I spent some time evaluating LO learning process and am extremely pleased with the results so far. A year ago i did some research what his age group should be learning and set up a plan to teach him. He has far exceeded all the learning goals already (with 5 months left). I talked to DH about it and have decided to slow the pace down in 5 areas for the summer and to totally modify how we are doing the 6th topic/area. I'm pretty sure LO isn't going to be happy about reducing the lessons because he LOVES to do them but I also want to add in swimming lessons and am considering drum lessons. I suspect he is still too young for the drum lessons though.

Ignoring the incoming paperwork and financial tasks for 2 days has resulted in a stack almost a foot tall. That will be my next up focus.

Black cats, ladders, mirrors, crossing fingers, rabbit's foot, threes, etc.

Just a few superstitions for today since it is Friday the 13th.

Any one have any others?

Looks like Okay needs a "paper-work challenge". Like you didn't know that! :?

I've been up for just about an hour. Just finished oatmeal breakfast and now am going to go wash my hair. (That's my 'flexible' for this morning -I am unable to do it one handed in the shower so usually do it over the kitchen sink -but at least it gets done!) You're right, Okay, we find different ways to do things when we have to and often for the better.

Have to be to church to help with Sunday's bulletin about 9/9:15 so have to get moving. Want to get my 30-minutes of paper work/declutter in before I go.

Spent a good deal of time last evening looking for my reading glasses (prescription) and had looked in every nook, cranny, bag, etc (even in the car). Finally called dh to see if he possibly took them with him (along with his 1000 other pairs ;) ). He hadn't had a chance to look when I finally looked in my packed bin (for postal/banking/etc) There they were! right on top. Have no idea when or how I put them in there. Grrr....I hate it when I can't find something.
Begun is half done -SO! JUST BEGIN!!

OKay that would be neat if LO is ready to start drum lessons. Several reasons - he can substitute that learning for some of the other learning taking place for the summer. They say to begin musical lessons young.

My dgniece began soccer at 4. They were rough when the started but really developed. She is now playing after school, with the 9 and 10 year old neighborhood since she is so good.

I thought of some more superstitions - crossing fingers and knocking on wood.

How about flexibly flying backward, making a U-turn and going the other way?

Dd32 called and after much back-and-forth pondering she has decided to come next weekend instead. She will be able to get off work earlier so they can make an earlier start on the road, and they will be able to go to an event here that dsonil enjoys. I broke it to her that if she makes this decision, she will miss seeing her brother's family. That's a disappointment, but she is still sticking with the next-weekend idea.

So now, we need to reverse some preparations. I can call dstepdil back AGAIN and ask if she'd be able to help with housecleaning tomorrow. I wouldn't be surprised if she hasn't made other plans, but we'll see. If she does come, we can offer her a nice lunch for sure, since I had already ordered the largest chicken-pot-pie take-and-bake!! Sigh. HRH says we just can't go back on that pre-order, it would be wrong. So there will be plenty of salty food that I shouldn't eat!

I will need to have my ddad with me when I run errands today but I think there will be just quick pick-ups.

Yesterday after a stressful day and feeling a little bruised, I didn't exercise and I didn't eat very well. So I need to also concentrate on redeeming that as best I can without much neck movement.

Thank you for the good wishes the other day on dd's lions, tigers and bears mathematics test. She did well and wasn't too nervous. Today she has a 2-hour test they call a "Field Test", which is a testing-the-test phase for a new kind of test that has been designed recently, and dd's school is one of the guinea-pig schools to do the beta phase and find the glitches. The only benefit to the students is practice on test-taking, really. But that may have some value. Her lunchtime will be postponed for more than an hour and she won't be able to leave the classroom, so I made her a roast beef sandwich breakfast this morning. Odd, but she needs protein and something substantial enough to hold her.

The 13th lost its' mystique for me when my dd32 was born on the 13th after 13 hours of labor in the hospital's labor room #13 at 1:00 pm (or 13-hundred-hours). I think its' a wonderful day, but I still don't like walking under ladders!!! :D

So Mon. is tax day so glad we are done with ours!

Sil hired some one else and w/ dd not working the third job h. is out of the pick up part time stuff he got there :( seems we just get bad news for him on the job front.

I did not have granny duty on Wed. and do have it on Sat. mid. day. I should have went to Bible study but h. snagged me for helping to take the leaves to the dump. In light  of us thinking about a change in houses of worship not sure I wanted to start some thing new there and it's further than I really want to go.

Lovely morning here after rain in the night.

I need to get busy with cleaning the floors that I did not get to the other day. Had a Realtor call yesterday but just could not do the time slot she wanted. Said she would do it later h. was not happy. ~sigh~ oh well... dgd was here & fell asleep got the rest she needed before the swimming lesson in the evening. Glad she is getting those early with the time they are in the river at the boat etc. it's a good thing!

Good news I did not notice soreness today when I got up and my bs was awesome at #79 when I first got up today. Hooray!

Good morning! Love the idea of Flexible Friday. I did something to my lower arm a few weeks ago & am doing my best to use my left arm for lifting things. It then feels better until I forget & lift a gallon of milk or something of similar weight & then the muscle hurts again.

((Gentle hugs)) as you heal from your surgery, Okay. Hooray for your smart LO being ahead in his lessons! 8-)

Indi, I've heard of throwing salt over your shoulder -- not sure which shoulder or why it's done, though :) . By
the way, it is so wonderful to see you posting, knowing that you are feeling so much better. And congrats on your 25lb weigh loss -- woohoo!

Speaking of, congratulations to Kathryn for getting her license! You put a lot of time & effort into attaining that goal.

Glad you found your glasses, Dee!

Wow, Harriet, that was a 13-themed day for sure! Hope dstepdil is available to help you tomorrow.

Sorry dh got bad news about the job, Nancy.

I've done a few 15 minute sessions in the attic recently. Table is still not completely cleared off. The first two sessions I got really stressed but once I started to see the table surface I felt better. Will work up there some more this afternoon.

I'm off to finish my tea & cuop. Have a wonderful day, everyone! :D
