Thrifty Thursday

Post by bittersweet »

Many of us find our days so jam-packed with things that we end up feeling overwhelmed and constantly playing catch up. What can we do today to be more thrifty with our time? There isn't any way to stretch the hours, or get more of them, or even save them up for a rainy day. All we can do is make the best use of them that we can. One of my favourite quotes is by H. Jackson Brown Jr.
Don't say you don't have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michaelangelo, Mother Teresa, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein.
For me, I'm going to spend less time on this chair in front of this computer today! The sun is coming up here now, the dogs want a walk, and there is much to be done with what Environment Canada tells me will be a warm, sunny, albeit somewhat windy day!

Good morning BSweet! You have to be up early! I've been up an hour but only am through to making the bed and taking meds. DH & dneighbor plan to put the solid 'awning' on our bedroom slide today so I got the bed made early. Supposed to start getting very warm/hot today so they want to try for early as possible.

Everyone take care out there today -know it will be way hot for most of us. Nice & cool in here so far, but I'm sure the AC will go on before too long.

Need to think about groceries for the weekend and go get things today. Once tomorrow hits (here) it will be terribly busy and I don't want to go anywhere with the car. It's the one weekend that there's security posted in the driveway coming in to the campground and I.D. has to be shown. Traffic and pedestrians is off the charts so hate to even drive through it. Saturday night is the big fireworks show here and the place is packed -as well as all roads surrounding the area. I have heard thought that the sheriff's dept. is not going to allow cars along the shoulders, so not sure what people will be doing. (on the outside) DD may have other dgd come spend the night as it's just too crazy trying to get out of here to take her home after the fireworks.

Going to compose a gathering of needs.

Oh happy day! I am home today with no appts outside the house - I do need to go after groceries but other than that I can do what I need to do. I've been on the run for the last two days and I need to keep the energy up for today instead of collapsing....back in a few.

Two kittycat pads have been mended (usually takes longer than actually making the darn things!), and the dogs have been for a walk. It's absolutely gorgeous outside this morning...currently about 55F, sunny, and a light breeze. I took a small bag with me, and spent some of the time picking up trash in the green belt as part of my volunteer time for the Capital City Clean Up project. DH isn't home from work yet, and DS just got up, since he has to work early today. Wait...DH just walked in the door. I guess that means no working in the master bedroom until later this afternoon. Ah well...it's not like there isn't tons of other stuff to do around here!

Next up....

- reboot laundry
- refill critter food tubs
- downstairs critter care
- vacuum living room
- take out trash

Good Morning!

I'm energized by challenging myself with staying on track with cards/time slots. Competing against myself is one of my favorite ways to get routine things done and have some fun doing it. :)

DH was up extra early today. He is picking up a DFriend who is going through a hard time and getting him out of his house. DH & DFriend are going to be "guards" for the ladies working with church mobile clothes closet this morning. They are giving away free clothes in a run-down/rough neighborhood in big city. I will take DGS17, DGS15 and LO later this morning and have lunch in town with DH and DFriend.

Know you're getting to 'crunch' time, Twins, so will be pulling for you today. Love those days I don't have 'demands' on my time. Have to be up and at 'em early tomorrow so we can get to the hospital before 9. Hate driving in 'rush hour' traffic. Just not used to it. This is clear across the city -driving east. Yuk!

Better make sure my K indle is charged while I 'wait' tomorrow. Dr. will probably be calling dh with the results of his carotid doppler test from yesteray -this morning. That's my guess -as long as the vascular lab faxes him the results by today. This Dr. is very good about that sort of thing.

We put up a new hummer feeder tomorrow. Hoping they like this one.

The bedroom slide is in and the guys are working on that cover. Going to have dh leave the bed in the "up" position so I can store some things away under there. I'm l**sting everything that's under there so we don't have to physically look. At a stage in life where we need to do that for everything actually. Can never remember where I last saw this or that. Don't think it's as much age as it is this ol' computer is overloaded.

Good morning, villagers ~

Plans for today are all about coping with the heat. Predicted high is 95 with heat index of 110.

I would like to stay indoors all day, but that isn't possible. I'm attending a meeting with some friends on a college campus, honoring a man who is a WWII vet (navy pilot), wildlife photographer, and he also does amazing portraits. Just a great guy, and I don't want to miss his special day. The meeting is at 4:30.

I'm planning to go really early so I won't have to hurry. If I'm lucky, I'll be able to find a parking place on the street within a block of the building. Otherwise, visitor parking on campus is 2-3 blocks away. Normally it's a nice walk, but not today with all news emergency stations giving excessive heat warnings. I will take a picnic jug full of ice water in the car, and carry a big bottle of water into the meeting.

Need to figure out what to wear.

Until then, I have a couple of loads of laundry and a bunch of desk work to do. The ceiling fan in the office is comfortable so far. At mid-day I'll have lunch at the truck stop because I know their a/c works.

Oh, I need to find a link to a tutorial I saw yesterday. It's a really cute tote bag made from a chicken feed sack. Harriet's DD might want to give it a try. I'll post it in AC&N.

Coming back through - called local newspaper with garage sale ad for tomorrow and Sat. Garage sale is Sat only.

PODA (thinking out loud as I type, not in order)
-small walk for ddogs this morning
-take a load to the transfer station i.e. town dump
-take powder room mirror to new house so they can hang light fixture at correct height
-get groceries
-call drugstore and p/u scripts
-Clean up/straighten up some
-pull out any more yard sale stuff
-pack boxes
-yard sale prep (make signs)

Probably need to be out and about as early as possible - the high off the mtn is supposed to be near 100 today. Will s2s and get ready to head out to grocery, new house, transfer station etc.

Made up a batch of deviled eggs. I hard boiled eggs yesterday so i wanted to get some of them ready to pull out and eat.

Next up = Inside home loving type cards (thinking these need to be moved to afternoon time slot when it is too hot to be outdoors.....)

S2s, and then took ddogs for walk. I know that sounds backward but I felt like I had to get yesterday off of me first! Stopped to talk to neighbor two streets over who found Moses when he was a stray, and from whom we adopted Moses. His (now) grown son wanted to keep Moses then but they couldn't because they had two or three large dogs already, but the son came out this morning to visit with Moe. (I think that I saw the son shed a tear the day that they came and left Moes here.)

I wasn't planning to go to new house today but dh called earlier and he forgot to take the mirror that we will put in the powder room - electricians wanted it so they knew how high to put light fixture, so that falls on me. I'm going to take off with the grocery list to do that first.

Deviled eggs or egg salad sounds nice and cool, OKay. Might boil up some eggs myself.
