Got up early to send off dfriends next door -they left for FL around 7.

DGS7 is here playing the Wii. Think today is probably the last I'll have him this year. He really is a delight.

Have to go get dh’s passport photo today. Have the form all made out and printed from the internet. Now to write the check (need a ‘shudder’ icon).

Got some of my 5x5 things done while I was waiting to go say goodbye to neighbors. Nice to have a jump start on those.

Little cool in here this morning but I refuse to turn on the heat –it’ll warm up soon enough. Did ask DGS if he wanted but he said, “No, I’m good”. He never gets cold –too young.

It's 'birthing day' for me today. I can't believe that ds is now 24. In some ways he's much more settled and wise than I expected at this age. As you all know, I'm very proud of him.

We'll be going to his birthday party tonight. It starts at 8 p.m. so I'll be resting and eating through the day in preparation for the late dinner.

I'm off to a good start. I'm waking up at 6 these day and out of bed by 7. Just 10 days ago, I'd be awake after a rough night at 6, then fall into a deep sleep while the radio was on and often get out of bed at 9. So I have 2 more hours in my days now.

I've unloaded the dishwasher and the drainer, baked up some refrigerator muffins, crushed the cans for the recycle bin and made the bed.

The house is cold. It went down to the low 40s last night (unexpectedly, it was to be low 50s.) I have no idea if the orchids on the front porch will survive. I'll bring them in once the day warms up (high in the 70s), repot (always my intention) and see what happens. I need to pick all the ripe tomatoes too and get some sheets out to protect them from frost. We have a lot of late tomatoes that formed after the drought ended so we need to protect them as long as possible.

I've had my tea, breezed through the SHE Village and checked email. Now to get dressed for the day.

Boy, is this internet doing strange things today. I posted the 5x5's for today and they ended up in J&C Deleted and will try again -here.

Today's 5x5:

1. Remove everything & dust top of TV (it's got a counter on top as it slides down into the counter that goes across the front of our RV) -♫

2. Remove everything and clean "TV" counter -♫

3. Clean the window sills -♫

4. Clean ceiling fan in living room -♫

5. Clean out refrigerator -♫


Wow, already have 4 of the 5 done -maybe I'll have to add some.
Editing 9:48am: Well, those 5 are already done. Perhaps I'll do another list of 5x5. None of these jobs are terribly long, just all added together I never seem to get to them. Perhaps this is MY wisdom for the day. Keep a log of those things 'bugging' me and take 5 of them a day. (I know, we've had this for some time! )

Dfriend asked me if I used 1/2 and 1/2 today before they left. I don't but DSisIL does! Gave me about a pint -so it'll be perfect for dsil and I won't have to buy one. I usually use sugar free vanilla creamer.

It's getting harder & harder to NOT turn on the heat in here -just to take off the chill.

Have to look up something for dh on the itnernet -another part to put along our solid covers to the slides. This will close in the ends so birds can't get in and build nest over our slide out tops -between there and the solid awnings.

I had to drop dh off before 6:30 today to meet the other managers. They are going to an out of town meeting for all managers in the company. When I came in after returning I debated about walking even though it wasn't light out yet or getting on the computer. I decided to walk. By the time I was ready it was getting closer to daylight. I walked over to the busy street and by the time it was time to turn north, it was light. I walked through the cemetary and then had enough time to head home and be done with my hour walk. I seen the oddest sight at the cemetary. There was a squirrel on the side of the road, with it's head down and tail wrapped over it. I think it was asleep because it didn't look like it had been injured in any way. I have walked in the cemetary a few times and usually it is later and usually there are squirrels everywhere.

I need to stay home today and get a lot of cleaning done..............

Belated Happy Birthday to the Birthday Triplets.

Just realized I was MIA here yesterday. Overslept and then never caught up all day. That's hard to do when you are retired!!

Finished 3 aprons for the cooks, had lunch, sewed a bunch more - really pinned and fitted the skirt for the daybed. In the morning I marked off the dividers for the shelves in the shop. It was a busy day. Hot in the evening so I turned on the bedroom AC and closed the door and took a nap. Supper was watermelon.

Now I'm off to the sewing room to see how much I can get accomplished.

Good morning! It looks like a lovely day here, highs only expected to be around 82. I am s2s-ed and am drinking my tea. I have fed the 2 dogs; not a huge task but they do have to be separated. I've made a li&t for the day.

I think a dfriend called and invited me over for dinner tonight. I couldn't quite understand the phone message; I'm not sure it would be WISE for me to do that since we need to have the car loaded tonight. Ds' move in window is between 8 and 10 a.m. tomorrow.

I like the idea of 5x5s. Mine aren't related to a long term goal, though. They're more like the nitty gritty that must happen today.

I'm a little worried, though, that I won't complete my 5 by 5 pm. Dee, since you're almost done, I wish I could hand off some of mine to you! LOL! Well, here's a try:

My 5X5s:
1. Finish shopping with ds
2. Get the car washed
3. water the houseplants
4. exercise of some form or another (this may happen after 5)
5. Get the van packed with ds' things (this almost certainly will happen after 5)

Right now, I'm going to get ready so ds and I can accomplish #1. The store opened 20 minutes ago. Ds is still rummaging around looking for something, a phone charger I think. ..

DGS7 requested French toast for breakfast -since he's a not very good eater I said yes -but was nervous I wouldn't make it 'right'. Gave it to him -"Can you cut off the crusts, please?" Of course. Later -"Did you put eggs in this?" Of course that's what makes it French toast". "Because it tastes 'eggy' " He told me he wanted FOUR -I made one and that's nearly gone. Will see if he wants more. I'm almost doubting it. Have batter left and will make some for dh when he comes in for breakfast. By then dgs may want another.

Dh planted 42 strawberry plants on the other side of the berm a few days ago. Now he's trying to locate some straw to put down there for the winter. Can't believe we're already saying that word!

Will be very glad when the hub-bub of this week's 'eviction' is over and the campground once again settles back down. Most people who have caused problems are not 'invited' to return, but this one has to be out tomorrow. Guess he plans to take the trailer on Friday. He already sold his deck and dh moved that yesterday. He's asked dh to seed his spot where the deck was so he doesn't have to pay for that. Lots are sodded here and when anyone leaves it of course leaves just dirt where a deck and/or shed were. Think it's $.60/square foot, so can get 'pricey'. Most now try to seed it and grow grass so they won't be charged.

Where is DS going to school, Helia -nearby?

Yes, Dee. Very close by. Ds is going to Univ. Michigan. He's in the engineering school, actually starting out in the same engineering dept. where dh teaches. But ds isn't set on a major yet so he could move around. He has a year to declare. . . . His dorm is only about 4 miles away. I'm very curious how much we'll see him during the year.

Still not s2s. I did eat my cereal. While doing that, I read the instructions for the new 2-line phone we bought. This one is for my desk and we'll move my desk phone to the living room roll-top desk so we don't have to run as far when the phone rings. This is especially important when we are on the deck.

I bought two phones yesterday, one corded, one cordless. Haven't opened the second one yet. The first has more features that I imagine I'll ever need but some really nice ones. Our house line is pulse dial (rotary phone holdover) and the business line is touch tone. This phone allows me to set both lines to their kind of dialing. On my old phone, both had to be set to pulse and I had to hit the tone button if I was calling out on the business line.

Secondly, this phone handles call display (which the business line has) and indicates if there's a message on the Call Answer system from the phone company. We have an indicator light in the front hall so we know when we walk in the door, but this is nice if I come in from the back yard having missed a call.

This corded phone also accepts my handsfree headset which is good since holding a phone receiver against my jaw is not recommended by the jaw doctor. He says it means you are speaking with jaw at a slight angle and that irritates the jaw. Because of that, I've been using the cordless phone a lot, putting it in my apron but there are times when I don't have to be free to move around but I'm on long conversations so this extra feature will be good.

Finally, I can set different rings for each line. We sort of have this already; in the front hall is an old-fashioned ringing phone so if the business line is ringing, we hear an old fashioned telephone ring as well as all the fancy new ones. The old phone is loud enough to be heard throughout the house so we always know which line is ringing. But at my desk in the kitchen, I'll have an extra clue.

Now, I have to decide if I want to open up the second box and figure out that phone. It is a cordless phone but also has a speakerphone on the charging stand so you can answer the phone even if the handset has wandered off. It would be nice to have a 2-line cordless phone again. Right now if I want to take a cordless phone outside with me, I have to take 2 of them. We bought two single line cordless phones because when we were last shopping for phones, that was way cheaper than a 2-line cordless phone.
