What a great opening, Twin's Mom. I can see you sending the Queen Elizabeth wave over all of us.

HRH didn't sleep well last evening and finally gave up and started cooking a big breakfast. So I didn't have my usual apple this a.m. but bacon-egg biscuit and jelly.

TaDa last evening was reading a couple chapters in my book.

TaDa early this a.m. was spiffing the front bathroom.

I have some errands today, as there is a prescription, plus the darling animals are about to be out of cat and dog food.

I like that proclamation, Twins! I hope that I have some time today to cuop from last week. Don't like being away from our little village so much!

Taking gd14 to school in just a few minutes. REally need to make a grocery run at some point today. Have to pick gd back up at noon (early dismissal today). Come back, clean up the kitchen after I take her to school. AFter picking her up, have to go to dbil/dsil's to pick up dh. Also want to make a stop in there somewhere to look at small refrigerators at S ears. Looked at L owe's where I saw one I liked last year -none. Hate to spend the money, but I think it's something we all could really use here. The small (dorm type) one we have in our room right now will go out in the workshop.

Time to get on the road -hope to be back later.

In PWYC-land today, I am saying goodbye to dd, who was home overnight, working at payroll for the afternoon, going to a community luncheon, and hanging at home this morning. I was trying hard to finish what I was working on yesterday afternoon, but got a temple phone call around quitting time that took forever, and then I needed to head home to meet dh and dd for dinner out. I think I only need maybe an hour to finish the tax return, so I'll give it a shot after the luncheon this afternoon.

I did not stay up past 10 p.m. to watch any results - I was sleepy and afraid it would take all night, or worse, not be decided last night, so I bailed out. Dh slept in front of the TV awhile early on and then was up when the election was declared.

Right now:
-check on dd getting up soon
-breakfast and meds/vitamins
-walk the ddogs if its not raining
-get recycling out to the street

Went to bed just after 11 and just listened to the coverage for 30 minutes (had the tv on sleep mode.) I remember the tv turning off and deciding not to turn it back on but that's the last thing I remember until 5:50.

I dreamed that dd was pregnant and hadn't told me and I only discovered it when she got off the plane to visit me - days before the baby was due!!!! I'm recording this dream here so I can refer back to it if dd does let me know in the future she is pregnant. My prescient dreams don't stretch to the kids or dh (they do apply to me and to a few others in my life) but who knows, maybe it will this time. Another one of her friends is pregnant (that makes 3, two of which already have kids) so I thought she'd be upset but when I talked to her she said she was just fine. Maybe it is because she is pregnant.

Another busy day here. This time it is Presbytery volunteering in the morning and then meeting my childhood best friend for lunch. My Sabbath should start in the afternoon but I may just skip it since I haven't been working the cards this week. On the other hand, I'm way behind on devotions so maybe I'll just take my bible and notebook to a coffee shop and work through on that for hours. We'll see how tired I am after lunch. Logically, staying out and doing devotions makes sense but my need for a nap may scuttle that brilliant time-management plan.

Congratulations and commisserations to all those enjoying the variations of the thing we call democracy.. May this day be the beginning of an amazing present as we can make it - just doing what we can do.

Harmony - We have to register onto the electrol rolls - at least now there is only one. There used be separate ones for state/local and federal elections. I once found my name was on the roll twice when I went to vote. I was sent a letter asking why I hadn't voted and wrote back that my name on the roll twice - and voting twice was illegal. I never heard back. There are fines if you are registered and don't vote.
By law - voting is marking/numbering squares on a ballot paper with an often blunt / pencil tied to the cardboard polling cubicals with string. For the fed senate there is often 50 odd candidates - and an option to vote 1 along party lines, or number every square in order of preferance. And hope not to get numbers mixed up.

wrote sympathy cards - then only had stamps with a birthday cake and candle so will buy some less festive stamps.
Arranged to stay at a brisbane friends home night before funeral to avoid problems with traffic and needing to start about 6.30 or earlier. Tried to get onto kennels - will try again tomorrow.

Back from school run and now to start planning a 'routine' of sorts. I'm hoping I can draw up a 'plan' that will set certain days for dh and I to clean certain areas (laundry rm, dining rm, kitchen, living rm, entryway, office, porches) and for gd to do the 'guest' bathroom and her room. Maybe not even every week. What I'm 'hoping' will happen is that we can ask her to do the bath 1 week and her room the next and perhaps put dh in as cleaning the guest bathroom once or twice a month. That's my "grand" plan at this point anyway.

Have the last bag unpacked on the bed and have put away part of it. Spent some minutes looking for the rest of our medications for the next week. Of course the first place I thought to look -kept thinking they wouldn't be in there, so it was the LAST place I looked. There they were -because they FIT! Can't do that next time. We did bring in just a couple of things at a time to unpack and it really worked well. No mess and it was much easier to organize.

Have donned my apron and am off to clean up the kitchen/do the dishes. Will take care of the remaining things on the bed a little at a time. Then "wallah" it's done!

I'm posting before I get sucked into this machine. I already sat here and spent an hour composing a long email to dsil. I write to her a few times/year. This is dh's oldest sister; she lives in the UK now. Seeing the wedding photos online last night made me think of her; also, I wanted to share re: how dd17 was doing. I suspect that if I email her something, it gets to the rest of the family, so she is kind of like a family public service announcer. I can share news through her.

Dh and I stayed up until about 11:30 last night. The election commentators/analysts on TV were sort of helpful but not extremely so, we thought. We were most interested in numbers in terms of how groups of people tended to vote. We wish they had included some other categories, like education levels, but maybe that is more difficult to track, and probably can't be done the night of the election. Numbers were likely preliminary anyway.

It is sunny today! Dh and I are meeting to go jogging around 4:30, I hope. I will be at the high school in 2 hours to help fit band students with their concert uniforms - tuxedos and evening gowns. I'll be there until 3 pm. I need to get the crock pot started before I leave, a lentil stew which the kids love. Basically, lentils in tomato sauce with diced ham; I could use sausage but ham is easy and lower fat, I think.

With my evening lol, I am pretty well caught up with clothes but now have a lot of towels and bedding to do.

I LOVE maps too, Kathryn! I always have. I do not love politics, though. Maybe I would enjoy it more in what to me may be more healthy settings where I feel safe.

Off to finish the a.m. routine.
