WooHoo! It's Friday!

I have been going for two weeks straight and I am so excited that I have a three day weekend.

DS14 gets a 4 day weekend, and yet there is no snow on the roads... I want to leave in less then 30 minutes, the last 2 days have had me stuck in traffic which has caused me to be late, so I'd like to get an early start. Need to finish my SDR & GRWR.

My plans for the weekend include;
Saturday - Toes up - Homework (want to get caught up and maybe ahead where I can)
Sunday - Major clean of the house
Monday - Car in for an oil change and clean.

I'm needing/wanting to get up to date w dishes tonight.
I bought some new plastic containers - need to toss some the lids don't stay put well enough, also if worn, or not bpa free brands.
I might see if I can put them somewhere to dry properly before I put the tops on. like to freeze meals in 1 cup serves, or 2cups for some things. 2 are bigger sizes so handy for "other things.
poofing to get the plastics out of the way so I can finish the dishes.

I'm trying to finish writing newsletter articles for the sewing group.
Then I have a work session at least 3 hours at the library to get ready for a fund-raising event which is a week from tomorrow.
I'm hoping to be able to spend the afternoon in my apron, doing laundry and cleaning something anything at home.

x laundry gathered and sorted; not much - only enough for 2 medium loads
x lol sitting in the dryer folded and put away
x started washer with lol#1 for today
x replied to a couple emails

Next:
-finish a.m. routine
-call in dd17's script
-mix up banana bread and get it in the oven

I'll try to stick all my errands together; I'll probably need to leave around noon or 12:15 to. . . . .
-run back to the groc. store for forgotten items last night. I also forgot rolls for pulled bbq sandwiches
-Walgreens to pick up a script for dd17
-put letters, etc. in the mail b/c I missed the mailman this a.m. I didn't realize he came before 10 a.m.
-bring a suitcase to ds' dorm room. Meeting him at 1:15, I think. After he packs, I will. . . .
-take him to a sports store to check out their ski pants.
-maybe take him back for his late afternoon math class, which he wants to skip b/c he says the prof. goes too slowly and belabors every point. . . I prefer he not skip, but that means more driving around for me.

Later, I need to take Pepper to dfriends' house. Fortunately, these friends live very nearby, unlike Tori's family who lives in a different town.

Lynlee--I could relate to what you said about your one door not working. At DD's, she uses front door as back door swells during humid or damp weather. We had that problem with a door at our last house, too. Always meant to take it down and paint all 4 edges to seal them. Never did it and now it is someone else's problem.

Saw the talk yesterday about when school is cancelled...We lived in WI when kids were growing up. School was never cancelled for snow, but would be cancelled if windchill was more than 40 below 0! Recess was outside regardless of snow. Kids were very good at remembering and keeping up with hats and gloves! Of course, temps were so cold that the snow was usually fluffy and dry...not icy at all, very little water content. I look back fondly on those days,,,remembering how the wind would cut right through us at times!

Must get moving as DH will be home early today! Have a great day, everyone!

Ellyphant: you're right the wind can cut through you. For us the extreme cold doesn't start until this time of the year and the sun is getting stronger. We only get extreme cold on full sun day (like today). Thus, even on a sub-zero days, if you are out of the wind, properly dressed and moving around, it can be very pleasant. Of course, a fur coat helps because it cut the wind very effectively. I've met the school bus with just my coat, no hat or gloves and with my hands in the pockets and the collar pulled up to protect my ears from the wind, I've felt plenty warm.

It is just 1*F today but lovely to look outside and see the sun and our south facing rooms are quite nice.

My "S" key is not working right. I may have to plug in an external keyboard and then get ds to try and fix it for me. It was fine last night at the meeting but didn't work when I got home. I just cleaned the keyboard as best I could and it is still flaky.

Had a tea party here with the chair of the Joint Board. She has a 7 month old and a 4 year old and couldn't come to the meeting last night so I wanted to talk in person (email leaves a trail) and invited her over here so she could get out of the house for a bit. It was rushed because it was baby's naptime and she is very distracted but I brought her up to date.

Now to reboot my day. I've had breakfast and tea, am s2s and have unloaded the dishrack. Still have to exercise so might do that in a bit. Also have to visit my senior friend and do grocery shopping.

Good Morning!

I woke up later than normal but still was able to hustle and get most of my morning cards done. At 9:00am I find myself with -
** Bible study and character trait study done
** LO up, dressed, fed and happily delivered to school.
** DH launched with his belly full with a hot and healthy breakfast
** House picked up and 90% swept/dusted.
** Dishes done
** dirty clothes basket empty (last of the dirty clothes are now washing).
** meals for the next 48 hours planned and prep'd

Yesterday I tossed aside all my plans and spent the afternoon/evening with DGS17. I made some phone calls and took him on a tour of alternative school. It is set in an awesome environment with small class size. He would attend academic classes half day and vocational training the other half day. The academic classes aren't' set up like a normal school schedule but instead are structured to immense the student in the subject until they "get it". He would do nothing but one subject for 3 hours daily x 6 weeks (aka 6 weeks of English, 6 weeks of history, etc). He would graduate with a diploma and a trade that he would give him an employable skill. I see this as the best choice for him to make (considering his options). He is less enthusiastic than I am. He would rather stay in his "normal" school with his GF and friends.....even though he is flunking and currently on suspension. I've pushed him (pulled him???) about as far as I can so now we wait to see if the effort/time spent with him yesterday was wasted or maaaaaybe give him a new start. He will attend another school the next 10 days that focuses on teaching him to make better decisions, anger management, and problem solving. Maaaaaybe something will reach him.....

Next up -
Deep cleaning focus in the kitchen. The appliances are going to get looked at with "new eyes" and I'm sure will need some old fashion elbow grease.

Good job making sure everyone in the group is on the same page, Kathryn.

It's my ears, definitely, that make the wind a problem. I will get an earache from high winds and it will keep me from being alert and attentive in the same way a migraine can.

Dd32 had a 10:00 a.m. start at the college, but DangerBoy is out for the day. Here, dd had a late start and we slept in until 7:30, 2 extra hours! Yay! The couple of hours she had at school before 12:00 dismissal were in classes that had make-up exams going on and she was shooed out, so she's here at home already, very happy with her weekend.

4 teachers have already posted her final grades and she has all As for the semester so far; still waiting, of course, on the grade from the poor teacher with kidney stones, but it is likely an A as well. I feel so sorry for him with hospitalization. Even with HRH's worst kidney stone experience, it was out-patient, though it nearly broke the bank - that's a very expensive specialty/surgical field.

As the new semester begins, dd14 will have all male teachers except for one (interestingly, this is the only PhD teacher whose class dd continues for the full year, she's a total cut-up in class, and dd just loves her). Dd says this will be a truly new experience for her, adjusting to a nearly all-male authority situation. (And she says it's not sexist for her to say that - she has an entire half-year of psychology under her belt now and has a knowledge of this sort of thing. ) I'm frankly thinking discipline around her may be good because there are men at the teacher's desks. (And am fully aware that's probably sexist!)

When she (sitting at dining table doing homework) complained to us (sitting in living room area watching the news) that with all the recent work her pencil was starting to hurt her finger, both of us answered simultaneously. I called out, "Try changing to a different pencil." HRH called out, "Good, you needed to toughen up." She stopped everything to explain to us what an interesting psychology study our answers would make.

Dd32's card goes out today. So happy to have found a lovely Debbie Mumm with one of the beautifully illustrated envelopes she does. We put in an "i tunes" gift card. Dd14 assures me this is the ideal envelope gift for someone who recently got an ipad - hope that's so.

This is cleaning day in dd's room. Treacherous territory, unstable footing. Like in the dumpster scene in Star Wars - is something moving under there?

Thank you thank you thank you to all that helped me see reality yesterday!!! You are all so kind and I can't tell you how your voice of reason helped me. heading out but want to thank you. there is a lot of wisdom here. dd and her friends had a great time since wednesday and it's nice to hear laughter of many in the house. (except right now they are sleeping)

I need to get up at six and get dgson about five min. earlier thand we did today to get ready for school on time. We did not get the clothes out or make lunch the night before ~sigh~ I had dgson make his own lunch today
[he tried to get me to make it again today but I did not]. We did get the trash and to the curb. I for got my a.m. meds. and some of my p.m. ones too ack! I was pretty stressed about that. I've figured out when the bus comes so that helps. It was one of those pull your hair out mornings.

But we made it through Fri. is p.j. day at the school so I feel for the teachers. Dgson did not remember it I did not read the home work info.
Dgson wore casual sweat pants like for work out / sports and will be warmer.
