Smiling Saturday

Post by BookSaver »

Good morning, villagers ~

Smiling because we are supposed to have a few cooler days.

Yesterday I made it through the errands list and it was nice to linger a few places with a/c. After I got home from errands I saw that the temp in my office was 90. I thought that would be way too hot to turn on the computer so left it off until this morning. I'll be turning it back off again soon.

Interrupted sleep last night from a lightning storm blazing through. I got up to turn off the window fan, and then woke up again later and turned the fan back on. By this morning the bedroom was wonderfully cool. Of course, that's a relative feeling because we got close to 100 yesterday and I think the overnight low was somewhere in the 70s.

Emptynester ~ I'm glad you were able to get out yesterday, too. That was a lot of running, but doesn't it feel good to have it done! :)

Kathryn ~ I'm glad you had a good visit with your DUncle and arrived home safely.

I am smiling because there is a bday bbq for me the weekends for me.

The chickens woke me up, we're getting 12 -14 eggs a day.
I need to peel the eggs, I'm taking deviled eggs I have them.
my computer is charging so I'm grateful for this tablet?

Today is international bacon day.

Hmmmm, international bacon day. Better skip celebrating this day!

I'm up and at it. Border run today, plus groceries, plus working over at church too. Have to finish the service for the retirement home (down to editing the sermon down to size), print off announcements and set up projector and sound system since the service will be a video.

Finished the announcements just now. Have printed off the sermon to work on it in the car during the border run. I've eaten but still have to s2s. Oh, and unpack.

Laundry is in my near future as well, both mine and ds's (I offered to do it for him.)

He's asleep after a good overnight shift in the ER. Had a policeman who had been spat at in the eye and the culprit who had been pepper-sprayed by the other policemen at the altercation. The ER makes for interesting shifts!

:D HAPPY SMILING SATURDAY! :D

I'm smiling because I'd been thinking, 'OMG! I'm not balanced! I have work and letters to do, a house to clean, laundry and dishes, I'm behind on my reading, and can't balance my days! Oh, dear! I'm doing just terrible!' So I took a test on-line, which is a quiz to measure how balanced you are. I scored very high on being balanced because I have self-time, relax, journal, handle work, home, relationships just find and I laughed at what my perception, in my mind had been, compared to what it is in reality. So it's a Smiling Saturday for me!

The forecast is for sunshine and 81* here today.

Balance is an important thing in one's life, I think.

Quiet day here. Just puttering around. Paid a few bills, straightened ongoing projects at my desk, finished a couple and filed them away. Not much happening. I need to go fold a LOL and straighten the dining room table.

Have a nice day!

I got my face fixed, made the bed better, put away things in the master bathroom, hung sweat bottoms, an Under Armor shirt with a hoodie on top of it, since I'd been freezing last night during evening hours.

Am on my way to journal, do prayers, etc...

DH is going to the store, but is watching college football right now. He LOVES college sports! :!: So it's "that" time of year.

I need to go do some stretching because I overdid yesterday and need to loosen up, so I feel better.

Might phone DD later today to see how she likes her new apt. :D

Interesting that Harmony mentioned the quilt studio, because HRH's brother spent his morning painting its exterior and deck posts/rails today. This makes me smile. He chose an off-white/beige but with definite green undertones and it gives the deck a beach-house look. Door and window remain white. He actually didn't finish - it's quite a big job, so he says to expect him back soon. While he worked on that job, HRH and dstepson did lawn work, barn organizing and some furniture moving. Dd15 and I worked inside the house, removing yet another tall-kitchen-garbage-bag of trash from our bedrooms project, and also made a Subway run to get everyone their fav sandwiches.

Now that they're gone, dd is at a friend's house for the afternoon. On the way home from taking her, I noticed a seasonal surprise of lilies blooming by the side of the road and, on a whim, stopped and plucked one to see how its petals will press. This makes me smile. In the same pressing, I tried a blue orchid blossom from one of the memorial gifts.

Ivy, it was a more ordinary light fixture, but I lost my balance a bit and made an awkward move. Whether that was my neck problem last night or not, I don't know, but I was better this morning. Torso types make a big difference - a lot of people don't realize that. A person with a long torso can bend sideways at the waist more freely, and that is often a boon to flexibility in some ways. In T-Tapp you hear about this a lot. At a workshop I was analyzed as a combo body type with a short torso tendency, dd15 seems to be becoming a classic combo like her paternal grandmother, while my dd33 is a true short torso/long leg like her paternal grandmother.

*phew* This is a busy day. i should have a relaxing evening, though; dd17 has her small group meeting and dh is going to go (indoor) rock climbing with dd15. They do that from time to time. We have a very large and very nice facility here.

Dh and I went for a jog first thing this a.m., which wasn't very first thing-ish b/c we got up late b/c we are still going to bed way after midnight. It felt cool (temp-wise) - but we very quickly realized it was extremely humid, so neither of had particularly good runs. At home, I s2s-ed, had bfast, and had a family meeting re: hosting German girl. We decided to give it a shot, committing to a month and then re-evaluating. I called lady in charge, who is a big talker. I had to finish the conversation in the car b/c I was supposed to meet ds, which I did. I took him shopping at 2 stores for items for his apt. and some pants too. We stopped by home to pick up some things -- and then we went back to his apt., bringing dd15 with us. We hung out there a bit and then got some bubble tea since the shop is so close. I am just home, have worked more on application to host foreign student, and have called different foreign student lady, and she is going to come over whenever dh and dd17 end up at home, some time after 5 pm, and look at our house and talk to us all. Kind of interview/screen us. The house is in fair condition. I don't have time to worry about it. I am going to s/s the bathroom downstairs since they want to see the bathroom the student would be using.

Interesting info re: body types. I have a long torso and long legs. Dd15 is built more like dh's family, short and sturdy with short legs and probably a long-ish (for the height) torso. I'm not sure about dd17; she has long legs for her height, but I'm not sure about her torso length. If it's any indicator, she was a talented little gymnast until she quit at age 9; her coaches said she had a very flexible back. In comparison, her legs were not so flexible. When dd15 did gymnastics, her back was not as flexible - you could see it - though I'll be darned if she didn't figure out how to do a back walkover by herself at age 7 - outside of gymnastics class.. . . Both girls are short, though dd15 has reached 5'2"! Dd17 is still about 5' 1.5".

Finishing hot tea to drive away the sleepies. . . . I'm off to work in the downstairs bathroom - and check on ds' bedroom, where we'd put the German girl. If everything works out, she'd be arriving in 2-3 weeks. I think some of you might tell me I'm crazy. Yeah - probably. :) I've been interested in this for a while, and I seem to be looking at a very low-key fall. None of my resumes/jog applications came through (I think the 16 year hole was a huge problem, so I'll look into some volunteer opportunities; I'm rather discouraged but that's another post. . . . ) and I'm not on the teaching schedule for the moms group this fall. Once we're through the start up busyness of the year w/ moms group stuff in order, girls settled into school -- I think ds has been taken care of now, life will be pretty low-key for me. I feel I have some bandwidth.

Harriet, That's nice you have that to smile about.

I wrote 3 pages of prayers in my journal, while DH was gone to the grocery store. I changed the kcat's water, gave her more dry food and some treats. She gets 1/2 can of canned food around late afternoon.

It's sunny here, I've been working on a story when my doctor emailed me, so I made an update on a med I no longer need from the ophthalmologist, which will save time when I get my physical in Sept.

College football's on and DH is watching the Oregon Ducks. He used to live there growing up, for 13 years, so he's quite a fan. He was born there, too. When he was 9.5 years old, he'd ride his bike across town, pay .25 cents and sit in the end zone to watch the games. :D

Our Dson/Ddil and our DD and her "ex" are all busy getting our grandsons ready for school, which starts on the 3rd. I don't envy that job.

I need to run and dry the laundry. It just finished spinning.
:D
