Up early this morning as I went to bed around 9 last night. The old back cannot stay in bed for hours and hours as it used to do.
Harriet: The new floor is engineered hardwood - to be specific - it is birch. That means it has about 1/32 inch of real birch glued to some other composite wood. It snaps together so doesn't need to be nailed or glued to the floor.
I learned a lot while picking it out. Wood floors that are all the same wood are REALLY expensive. Then there are some that are just a picture of wood glued to the under layer. That makes it hard to hide scratches,etc.
Yesterday I was able to get all the MH bedding washed and dried and the bed made. I also cleaned the fridge and kitchen. I was able to glue the trim on the boards that cover the sink while we travel.
Today I'm going to try to get the non-perishable food loaded and start checking out the clothes situation.
OH! Forgot. I received a call from cardiologist in the afternoon (really his PA). I do have some kind of heart irregular beat. Since the heart cath was so clean last spring - they aren't too worried but are putting me on low dose new meds for BP. If it gets really bad - it would be a pacemaker - but that is way down the road.

MT, glad for the decent cardio report and easy to try meds for you.
Long, long, long day yesterday. From home to ATL and back and then to near Knoxville and back. Dh drove for the evening funeral visitation. Couldn't keep my eyes open by the time we got home but I know our friends appreciated us making the trip.
Right now I need to Conga my way through the house for the dcleaning lady. I have a li&t going for what needs to happen today and hope to get my energy level up.

Last night I started the arduous task of taking the ornaments off the tree. Since each ornament belongs in 1 of 16 under the bed plastic storage containers, it is a slow process. Some containers I put every boxed ornament on the tree. Others I just put a few. I really enjoyed the tree this year and was really in no hurry to take it down for a change.
However, the tree needs to be taken down and the house cleaned, so that I can start helping dd2 move. Yesterday she started moving some things but I told her I needed to do my own things first. Then I will be ready to jump in and help. She still needs to call the local mover and set up a date to move the furniture, which is mainly their bed and all the girls beds and dressers. They are moving 1 table and chair set plus the leather sectional, plus a sofa, loveseat, w/d and the freezer. The other appliances stay with the house and the other furniture will be sold. The boys have new beds, mattresses and a chest of drawers waiting for them at the new house.
While I was taking the ornaments off the tree I was watching Okay's team beat Alabama by 2 touchdowns. Yeah! Throughout the game the cameras would scan the Alabama crowd and they looked shocked. When it was over they looked horrified, like they had just witnessed a murder or the deaths of many people. There were actually people with their hands over their mouths. I have a newsbreak for them, the sun will come up today, if not tomorrow. I enjoy watching my teams play or my driver race, but if they don't win, it is not the end of the world as we know it.
Today dgs19 will be leaving for a Bible Bowl trip as a chaperone. My spellcheck questioned the spelling but my dictionary said it was a word. It also listed it without the e and that didn't look right. After years of attending Bible Bowl tournaments, dgs19 is excited to have the adventure again.
On Tuesday, dd2 was almost talked into reopening her business at a smaller location. She was working at the shop and a couple knocked on the door. They had pieces to pick up and were downtown. She has set up times during a weekend, a noon hour and after work time for the pickups but she did let them in. They are business owners and have 60 rentals. They have an office space that could work for her. The rent is $450 a month compared to the $1200 she is paying.It is just a few blocks from her new house and would be convenient. Once it was announced that she was closing, she has had a lot of people hoping she would reopen elsewhere. I met her there to look at it. Afterwards she asked my opinion. I told her to call her dh and her accountant before she made a decision. The accountant told her that unless she could work there and not have employees, she would never make any money. He told her if she wanted it to be her hobby, to go ahead. That was all she needed to hear to put an end to that idea.
Db just called. His dfil just passed away. His health has been really bad since June and super bad for a month. He said that his dmil had made out the obituary yesterday. He said he knew then, just how near the end was. His dsisil had come from out of town yesterday and was with her dm when it happened. My dsisil was upset that she hadn't stayed there also, but he told her that she had needed to be home and she accepted that. He said he just wanted ease her mind. He wanted me to call dm and then told me to tell her to call him. He didn't want to play phone tag with her, like normal. When I called dm, she knew why I was calling. She asked me if we were coming but hoped we weren't. We had planned to depending on the weather. We are suppose to have snow and super cold, so it is very doubtful that we will make it. He had asked to be buried but only wants a graveside service. Their church has shrunk to almost closing. Dm said they are about the youngest and they are in their 80's. I just hate it when someone passes away and the only thing you can say is, it's a blessing. This has been so hard on all of them as they have watched him just waste away.
Guess I better get off here. I need to eat breakfast, do meds and shower. Then I will call my dds to tell them. They both ask about him often.

Lilac, I got my tree down last night. I have one bin of ornaments and everything fitted back in (they came from two sources this year, as I've cut myself from two trees to one.) An ornament broke when I tried to lift it down with my hand in the splint. I must have put too much pressure on it since I couldn't cup my hand. It was already cracked from when ds knocked the tree over when he was 15 months old. But I cried anyway because it was "1984, A Gift From Heaven", and was given to me because I was pregnant with dd. 1984 was also "First Christmas Together" and that ornament is also cracked but still together.
The year the tree fell, I had put all the fragile ornaments up high because I had an active toddler but when he toppled the tree, they had the farthest to fall and even a carpeted floor couldn't save them. Three outright broke and four were cracked. I was ready to kill him, plus was hysterical, and then there was a knock on the door. It was my Daddy, just dropping by. He saved ds's life, helped me clean up, and helped move the tree to in front of the patio door where he tied it up to the patio door security bar. That wasn't the only time in my life when my Daddy showed up expectantly, playing the role of an angel.
Crazy busy day here. Still have to pack up the dining room decorations but I hardly did anything this year so that should be 30 minutes, tops. After that, the focus is packing and closing up the house. Dh is off to a movie with the boys so I'll have the house to myself and will be able to blast music.

Dining room done. Still have to prepare table for all the plants (I put them all in one spot to make it easier for the person watering them) but Christmas is tidied up. I've just realized I've missed two ornaments, on hanging from the chandelier and the other in the kitchen. I'm tempted to leave them since they are very pretty.

Dcleaning lady is here doing her magic. I've straightened up MBR and bath and kitchen, and I had done the GR when I finished the newspaper. Still have to clear kitchen table (IKEA purchases) and misc and fold/put away lol from dryer and have breakfast, et al. Went ahead and called vet for Macs' meds refills.

Lilac ~ Thanks for opening the thread today. Sounds like you had a nice time putting away your ornaments. Did you take any pictures of the tree? You are very good to give your DD so much help with her move. So sad about DB's FIL.

Nice you were able to find light color pants yesterday. I'm excited about your trip.
I've been working on a LEGO order already this morning. I'm very happy about finally being allowed to start a club at the library.
I will meet with the children's librarian after her storytime activities today. We need to work out logistics quickly because we want the first club meeting to be January 22nd. That is not a lot of time to order online (IRL stores are out of stock) and decide how structured we want to be as far as themes and such.
My first question to her will be how much she wants to be in charge of the club. If she wants to make all the decisions and prefers that I just show up to assist with activities, I'm ok with that. If she is in a time crunch (she usually is!) and wants me to make more of the decisions, I'll do that.
Other than that meeting, my other focus for today is the sewing group financial reports and file archives. Technically the reports aren't due until the board meeting in the middle of the month, but I'd rather just get them done and off the desk. The archives are going to weigh heavy on my shoulders until they're decluttered, reorganized and out of the house.
Weather: COLD! Right now actual temp 3 below zero, wind chill feels like more than 20 below. Just writing that is making me cold, I need to put on socks.

Yes, you are very kind to help DD with the move, Lilac. She is lucky! I never got any family help with moves, babysitting, new babies, etc. Of course, we have always lived hundreds to thousands of miles away from family.
Glad you found some items on your shopping trip, Kathryn.
Our tree is still up. We don't do a huge tree or a lot of ornaments. The most unique thing we do - is we have candles on it instead of electric lights, dh's family's tradition. We have only lit the tree once this year. I think dh wants to light it one more time before we take it down. Yes - we are careful; bucket of water nearby and one person is assigned to constantly watch the tree whenever we light the candles.
I am up, s2slippers, had some bfast, called the post office re: passport applications for minors. Glad I did - the post office where we were thinking of going only does passport appl. by appointment - and not on Fridays. The main office takes walk-ins.
Kind of a brain dump and possible PODA:
- a.m. routine
- fill out passport appl.
- call dh and tell him location change
- pick up dd15 from sleepover
- meet dh at post office and get passport appl. done
- continue getting caught up on towel and bedding laundry
- exercise!!
- put together moms group binder for this year
- work on teaching
- call fellow moms group teacher re: who is teaching Jan. 30.
- odds and ends from groc. store
- dd15 to synchro practice 5:15 - 8:15
- out to eat w/ family

Kathryn, thank you for sharing the story about your daddy. It always warms my heart to hear about good daddy's. My dsisil who just lost her df had a wonderful relationship with him. Her and I met when we were 14 and freshman in HS. My dad was never a daddy, so when I heard things about her and her dad, I was amazed those close relationships existed. Then at the age of 22, dm married my dstepdad and I finally had a daddy. I did not call him dad but he was a wonderful daddy to me until the day he died. Every Christmas I make his favorite frozen strawberry dessert. It always reminds dd2 and I of him.
BookSaver, I think it is wonderful that you are spearheading a LEGO club at your library. Between the library and your sewing club, you do so many above and beyond projects. I hope they appreciate you as much as I do.
Kathryn, I've been meaning to tell you that your clothing dilemma reminds me that I need to lose 5 lbs. in 2 months. I can fit in all my jeans BUT my favorites are too tight to comfortably wear. Since it will be early March, I will just take jeans and slacks. I am looking forward to your cruise. I always love to hear about your travels. I am especially excited that you will be seeing your ds.
I guess I should say that I am a long way from being done with boxing up those ornaments. Yes, I am certifiable crazy. It is confirmed.
Better get some clothes ironed and finish my grocery list. Later this afternoon I want to go to dd2s new house and clean out the cabinets, again. All that drywall dust sifted into them after I had already cleaned them.
