Happy Friday

Post by Twins' Mom »

I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it.

I'm enjoying this quiet week w/o dh. I can start home projects and leave them out and complete in another session instead of him coming in to ask what's going on and where am I putting things. Better for him to see the end result that question all the details, Lol.

Dcleaning lady is coming today so I need to do a straighten up for her, but can leave some incomplete projects going. I have an appointment for body work today - yesterday the temple secretary asked why I was limping and I wasn't really aware that I was. My hips are sore off and on - the soft tissue, not joint, I think.

I was up this morning at 5:45ish to feed dogs and let them out. Since the newspaper was here I just got on up. For now I need to get rolling....
-kitchen counters and breakfast bar
-kitchen table area
-fold the lol from the dryer
-breakfast & meds/vitamins, me + ddogs
-straighten up MBath

Thank you for the positive start today, Twins! I will do my best to be happy with today. I need to work diligently toward party prep as much as possible.

How's the weather where you are, Twins? Are you still unusually cold and snowy?

we don't watch TV so we miss nat'l. weather news - except Atlanta did make front page NYT, one of the papers we get (and don't read. ..). Today is significantly warmer up here, highs forecast to be 29. It is 27 right now. No snow in the immediate forecast either. :) Looking ahead (on weather underground), it looks like we'll get some snow next week Tues. night. Depending on the amount, I'm thinking kids might have Wed. off school -- but that's pretty far in the future.

Dh wanted to have coffee with me, so we did that last night. Glad we could do that instead of this a.m. as he was angling for last night. . . .

--> Skippable, proud mommy ramblings: Dd18 has done it again, keeping her GPA, though two classes were very borderline. We're proud of dd15, nothing borderline about her grades -- and she's been so busy with synchro practices and band stuff and solo/ensemble rehearsals recently. She is a disciplined hard worker for sure, organized with her time and pushing herself to achieve her goals, even at the cost of her sleep - and probably her health last week. Not necessarily good. . . .I'm not sure where she came from. Dh's genes, no doubt. :D She has high standards and has said she doesn't want A-s, even if they are in honors/AP classes that are weighted at our school to maintain her GPA.

I'm sipping my tea and have said good bye to the girls. Off to get the a.m. routine done - and then I'll post some very specific lists here, if that is OK. That will help keep me on track and feel accomplishment.

Good morning, villagers ~
I didn't make it out of the house yesterday so must go to the post office and library today. If there are any cash donations at the library, I'll take them to the bank. I have a coupon for a free mocha at McD's that expires today, so I'll get that while I'm out, too.

Other than those local errands, I'm working on deadline for cleaning out the sewing group file archives. The meeting is Tuesday. I'll be so glad when this project is done and out of my hands! I'm down to 4 boxes crammed full of papers to be sorted and decluttered, then everything needs to be 3-hole punched and filed in binders.

My coffee cup is empty. That means it's time to get dressed, put on makeup, and hit the road. BBL.

Helia, we are through the worst of our weather for this round. The temp here is 26 degrees (was probably 12 or 15 yesterday morning?) and our high is to be 48 and partly sunny. Should be a nice enough day!

I also read NY Times but I read it online, usually in the evening on the iPad.

I got MBR straightened up and am breaking. Need to do some desk day tasks...

It was a tough time for a lot of people in a lot of places with the weather. It hasn't been the easiest winter this year so far, has it. We have had a lot of rain last night and this morning. The retention pond across the street has standing water and our swales are half full too. It's raining again right now. That sweep of moisture that brought all the snow also has brought us all the rain. We need the rain, that's for sure, since we are usually in drought this time of year and it takes a lot of watering to keep things green. They usually have schedules and water restrictions for us until the wet season arrives but I haven't heard anything about that.

It is 61° now. Laundry hung out on the porch 24 hours and didn't dry in the cold/damp, had to bring it in and finish it in the dryer. It was under a roof and didn't get rained on. This really is miserable.

Gotta go out in this to dr. apt. with DH. He always wants me along. Have to make a bunch of phone calls first.

Dog bath accomplished. She stood like a good girl - must be used to the bath. Now she kinda smells like smoke. With the burn on her back, I wonder if she was caught up in the fire? But that was 8 months ago and she is way to fat to have been on her own for that length of time. The mystery continues.

I called the groomer and can't get in for a professional bath the day I want. The closest one is over 45 minutes away so I'm not sure what to do. I might call some friends and see if there is somewhere closer.

Wow, Emptynester. So is there a possibility Dakota survived the fire that eventually took the lives of the 19 firefighters at Yarnell Hill? Has she been seen by a vet for the burn, or is there a record of how she came to be up for adoption? I seriously doubt it would have taken a long time to put the weight back on. Assuming she was ready for adoption a month before you chose her, and had been well fed during that time, she could have filled out from very thin to plump. Also, she may have found kindly folks along her way before the adoption folks. I find it fascinating that she smells of smoke after a bath. I can't imagine how that could happen except for exposure to smoke long enough to embed odor in the fur. To me, that points straight to the fire, and no real bath since then because of no real owners since then. Of course, it could have been because the burn wasn't healed at some point she would have otherwise been bathed.

I will have to amend Twins' quote to say, "I, NOT D?H, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today..." * sheesh * I let him sleep later than even usual, b/c he drove all the way to college town and back yesterday and plans to do it again tomorrow... and he woke up like a grizzly bear... grumble grumble grumble...
Said he was planning to get his papers read, etc. etc. and then he could keep dgs while I did errands in town, but now, "You're just going to have to take him with you..." Yada yada yada...
Fine with me.

I did get up and do my little exercise routine. I'm waiting till dgs wakes up though, to s2s, just so dh won't have to complain about changing him & giving him his breakfast while I'm in the shower.

DH is absolutely CRAZY about dgs -- don't get me wrong. He is just SILLY over him. DH is just in a bad mood. Got a feeling when he sees that little grin, he'll be all better.

So -- I'm kinda on hold till dgs wakes up; don't want to get too involved in anything I can't stop. I think I'll put a load of clothes in the washer.
I'm glad I did s/s the kitchen -- washed sippy cups, etc -- last night. And dgs went to sleep sooo well -- he took a little nap in his play pen, and then I let him stay up till ds & dh came in. He actually seemed glad to go to bed when we put him down, LOL. He normally does sleep very well, but he ususally fusses for a few minutes when we first put him in his bed.
Tomorrow is another day.
