Today is Tuesday

Post by OKay »

“Live today. Not yesterday. Not tomorrow. Just today. Inhabit your moments. Don’t rent them out to tomorrow. Do you know what you’re doing when you spend a moment wondering how things are going to turn out with Perry?

You’re cheating yourself out of today. Today is calling to you, trying to get your attention, but you’re stuck on tomorrow, and today trickles away like water down a drain. You wake up the next morning and that today you wasted is gone forever. It’s now yesterday. Some of those moments may have had wonderful things in store for you , but now you’ll never know.”
― Jerry Spinelli
This made me smile.....
“Today is your special day, even if today might be tomorrow to an Australian. And even though you’re not Australian, it doesn’t negate the fact that today may or may not be tomorrow.”

As I practice doing time slots & assigned cards, I realize the passing of time happens so quickly. I can easily sidetrack myself and lose track of time. There is so much that I want to do.....need to do.....have to do....there just doesn't seem to be time enough for all of it. I'm not stressing over this (although I know it sounds like it) but more of an awareness that today is precious. Time is a limited resource. I will never have this time back again so I strive to made a decision how I want to use it.....before I can sidetrack myself into following a rabbit trail. ALTHOUGH....sometimes following rabbit trails can be good exercise. :D

This morning addition to normal doings is visiting LO school. Hopefully that can be accomplished in under an hour.
This afternoon addition to normal doings is attending funeral of long time family acquaintance. I will need to leave that early so I can be back home for LO arrival from school.

Focus, Okay, focus! Know that we almost always seem to complete the necessary even if there are rabbit trails here 'n there.

Harriet, dh has promised to wave as he's landing and taking off near you. He has quite a long layover there. For some reason I was thinking a completely different city, but should have known. He's at the airport now and should be boarding soon. He's been so frustrated with no answers yet. He'll be calling his regular GP when he gets down here to have him set up an appointment for an endoscopy (he's due anyway) when he gets back up there the end of next month. He'll be here just about 4 weeks. Then am scheduled to leave on May 1st. Lot depends on dd's schedule and what's happening with gd15. Do know I won't be riding all the way to NY with gd in tow.

I've been awake since at least 4:30. Was up & s2s well before 7. Both dd and dsonil have left for work.

Time to get breakfast and get busy. Bathroom & bedroom are both spiffed. Want to get dishes done and list some things to go in a Goodwill bag. Have a box sitting by the couch (for 2 nights now) but still haven't done that job. Want to work a little in the office too. Have to leave here around 1 to pick up dh. He gets in at 2:40pm. Have to stop on the way to get gas as well.
Begun is half done -SO! JUST BEGIN!!

Smiling at OKay's quotes. Trying to figure out what the second one means!!! :D I'll decide it means that even if Lynlee does get a special day I can't have, which is tomorrow, I must not covet it. I will not say, "I want Lynlee's day." I will say instead, "I want a day LIKE Lynlee's." And I'll have that delivered tomorrow.

Waving at Mr. DeeClutter! A clear day for flights today.

Harmony, taking probiotic capsules is a better idea than yogurt anyway, so if he doesn't like yogurt, don't bother him with it. But maybe some of the capsules? I'm not surprised he would be prescribed an antibiotic after the surgery. I'm sure it's very difficult to do a surgery and keep any infection away. Really don't understand about the vitamins.

HRH is disgusted with an article today on Yahoo.com, "Don't throw it away yet", about not respecting manufacturer's "sell by" dates on foods, which he thinks could hurt somebody. So ya'll have to hear about this. He says he was very surprised at this one: "Bread: Ignore the “Best By” or “Sell By” date. Placing your loaf in the fridge can extend freshness by two weeks." He thinks it's dangerous to generalize like that without taking into consideration how much or how little preservative different companies may use, or whether the bread is from a company that has already put their loaves through a long freezing time before thawing for sale, or how old the bread is before someone starts their idea of 2 more weeks in the refrigerator. He says bread can actually go stale faster between 30 and 50 F anyway, and long before you notice molds, they've been there.

He wanted me to look at the egg recommendation to "pay no attention" to the sell-by date on the carton and only to the length of time YOU have had the eggs in your refrigerator... ... I think that's sketchy. How much of the potential refrigeration time did your grocer or the processor already use up? There's no way to know. The deli meat recommendation said even though the sell by date had come and gone, keep the package for 2 more weeks. That could be okay, but you'd better use that meat up fast after you do open it.

As far as learning that 91 percent of Americans have thrown away food prematurely, HRH says he is very happy for them. If they always waited until it wasn't premature, they'd have joined the other 9 percent running to the bathroom.

Having tea and chocolate.

I've put my bite guard in soak for a deep clean. And made the bed. That's it.

Today has to be better than yesterday; I need to get my life back under control.

((((Harmony & Mr. Harmony)))) I'm so glad you've made keeping us up to date a priority. I know how hard it is to take time when there's so much else going on so I really appreciate the effort you are making to stay in touch with us. Remember, if it gets to be too much, you can use IRL contacts to keep us informed. Although, I suppose volunteering Sunny isn't really fair!

Harriet: in the case of eggs, the test in water is a good indication. In Canada we only have best-before dates and expiry dates, no sell-by dates. The BB on eggs has recently been cut back by several weeks (or eggs are making it to the grocer several weeks later.) So I often use the water test.

I've often heard it said that if it shouldn't have mold on it, don't eat it, but things like cheese are ok if you cut the mold off. I love the fact that my body automatically hesitates at anything 'blue.' Even things like blue icing cause me to pause. That's proof to me that 1) I am an animal and 2) I have instincts that come from centuries of evolution breeding the 'beware of blue food' info into my basic being.

That being said, I have blueberries each morning. That was conditioned into me by my family, since blueberry picking and eating was a highlight of summer vacations!

I was up at 7 this morning before dh left. I really like being up at that time - recently I've been sleeping later (weekend, then oversleeping yesterday) and it feels like I am more "together" this morning.

Moses has vet appt (annual + geriatric) at 10 but beyond that I am hanging out here at home...

OMM so far today
-sort recycling to get to the street tomorrow (has been six weeks, last two Wed every other week p/u has been snowy)
-desk clearing
-take photo of worn out area of DMacs harness to send to company and ask replacement
-get cash from bank
-temple emails
-request new ins card and new prescription card
-routines
-get desk cleared and move new computer over
-what else?

OKay, I meant to follow up on discussion last week re learning new things/becoming a CPA. Yes, I am in a different place than you, even tho I'm 58 also. I was remembering that maybe 5 years ago a dfriend went back to school for a PhD in Occupational Therapy....altho she had a career before kids, she had mostly been a stay at home mom while her dkids were growing up. I had worked virtually all the time my kids were growing up (some part-time, but all-out tax seasons) and in a way envied her energy in learning new things. OTOH, she hadn't had the outside stimulation that I had had during kiddie years.

I still don't have Office on new computer and need to get it. I could use some of the open office applications but OTOH I feel like an old dog and am not in the mood to learn new stuff while puzzling out Windows 8. I also need to figure out scanner - this computer doesn't automatically come up as an option when scanning documents.

Positive thinking all around for us! Kathryn said:

Aha!
I had to go look in the fridge after Kathryn mentioned different names for dates on food packages. My egg cartons say, "Use By" for the date on the end, and it's all that's stamped anywhere - two different brands. So this is not, as the article wants me to believe, just "meant to help retailers manage turnover" but a date aimed straight for the user to read. I thought so.

Blue food - reminds me of encouraging WonderBoy to go ahead and eat the blue icing on his first birthday when he was suspicious of it and didn't want to touch. Minutes later he was breaking out on face and hands where icing touched and dd34 had to get him in the bathtub, quick. We've never had the special one-year-cake-on-the-face moment when the child didn't immediately reach for whatever other color of icing there was. But the blue didn't look right to WonderBoy!

Taking my break this hour. I'm trying to train myself to stop at :45 minute mark and regroup before starting at TOTH. It hard for me to stop when I'm on a roll.
I still don't have Office on new computer and need to get it.
I started comparing Office 2013 and Office 365 the last time I set up a new laptop. I went with Office 2013 because I was able to purchase it at a greatly reduced price (under $20) so it became a no brainer for me. Not sure what I will choose the next time.

Thinking of Microsoft gets me thinking.....DSon is on his 3rd interview with potential new employer. They will have to come big to pry him away....but he is willing to listen and consider. Either way he decides is good job. I'm glad it isn't my decision to make. I'm a "fly on the wall" status just listening to DSon/DDIL discuss the pro/cons.

DH and I discussed again my returning to school this morning. I told him I did a little preliminary looking and found most of the classes online. His response was "Don't regret not doing it. Just jump in and DO IT!!" I still haven't made my mind up yet.... This drives him crazy that I over think things.

OKay, where would I find it for $20? I looked into going to law school when I was younger - took the LSAT and made spectacular scores but couldn't bring myself to pack up and leave here to attend school somewhere else. Still think about it now and then, tho. (Like I have time? )

Home from vet visit with Moe - now his liver enzymes are elevated. He's been tremendously well for so long it's always a surprise for him to have health issues but he's as old as Macs. He will get an ultrasound in two weeks to ck out liver and gall bladder. Vet who does it only does it on Fridays; this Friday not good for us, she's off next week on Friday so we go to March 14. Let the pocketbook recover a little from all the bloodwork and meds also.

-walk the ddogs
-make the bed
-deal with two temple emails/issues
-clear the kitchen table (this is a biggie....)
-reboot laundry

Also plug in phone to charge.....
