Sliding into Saturday

Post by BookSaver »

Good morning, villagers ~
We were back into winter temperatures yesterday here in Iowa. We needed to be careful walking on slippery sidewalks, and the wind was fierce. The furnace has been running all night.

However, by this afternoon we are supposed to have sunshine and much warmer temps. I heard possibly up to 50. I'm looking forward to being able to store away my winter scarf and gloves.

I think we'll be buying new computers this weekend as support for Windows XP ends on Tuesday.

I couldn't convince DH to work in the yard last weekend, so will try again this weekend.

Or maybe, if it gets warm enough, we'll take a couple lawn chairs outside and relax in the sun! 8-)

Whew! Got scared -at first got a strange message when I tried to enter our village, then I couldn't seem to get the "Reply to post" button to work. But here I am -I think. Good morning, Booksaver.

Was supposed to go to a friend's wedding this morning (very informal and there's to be a backyard barbecue later this afternoon.) However, I was really feeling under the weather and asked dd if she'd be terribly upset if I didn't go. Not at all -just wanted to make sure I knew I was invited and welcome to go. After she left I was immensely glad that I had decided to stay home -after a few trips into the powder room. :? Now maybe I can dress and get a few things done. Simple things.

Dh called and chatted for a while. He was setting at major intersection waiting for a marathon to start (fire police). Brrr.....it's snowing up there. Have to go over the checking account with him later. His figures don't agree with mine (and he has more money than the bank). I'm sure he either didn't deduct something or made an error.

Have to call our cable company this week. Got our first bill for the internet and it's more than doubled now. Have to make sure they're charging us correctly. :o

Think I'll at least try getting dressed now and at least get the dishes done.
Begun is half done -SO! JUST BEGIN!!

Finished the sermon while walking on the treadmill. That's a first for me and I was surprised that it worked. Of course, most of it was in my head so there wasn't much composing and it isn't a regular sermon this week, just 1 - 2 paragraphs of thoughts interspersed with the very long scripture reading. Discussed the idea with dh and he said it would work as long as I had a way to make sure they understood when it was scripture and when it was my writing. I said that's why I was asking him to read the scripture!

I've s2s, tidied the bedroom and put away the clean dishes. Am having my tea and chocolate now. Dh and I have a 'date' tonight (concert by one of the professional musicians from our congregation, held at another church but we'll go out for dinner ahead of time as well.)

Just found a home for two twin mattresses, a box spring and the old sofa. Woman moving out of a shelter into an apartment with two kids. Yay for Freecycle (and the church group who are connected people like me with that woman.)

Dh is working on the business filing cabinet so I'm off to help him now.

Hello. Hope everyone is having a nice weekend. Sorry to read Booksaver is having more winter weather. Will winter never end for most of you?

I've been to the bank, S2S, exercised, fielded some phone calls.

DH went to a youth picnic (which he discovered is next week instead of today) so he's out visiting his DDad and an old parishioner from church he discovered while he was in rehab) so I have the house to myself for a bit.

Next up:
sweep floor, mud is tracked in all over
mop floor, after mud picked up
pay some bills
put heat curlers in hair

We've been invited out to dinner so I'm saving my calories for later. Guess I'll have some veggies for lunch soon. I love Saturdays - usually!

Saturday ci:
Absolutely MUST change sheets today! (Should have done it last Saturday!)
It would be really good if the House Fairy would pop in and dust something, too.
And vacuum, but I don't think that will be happening.
Then dmil... call/check in with dmom... and movie tonight.

Worried that d?bil is sorta "training" dmil to become helpless. :? DH and I are making a valiant effort to encourage independence. D?bil seems obsessed w/doing for dmil now. He never showed this sort of motivation for dealing with dfil... * shaking my head * It really has dh in a stressed-out state of mind, and his own bp & heart rate continue to be frighteningly high. He's napping right now, though. Couldn't sleep last night.
Dbil says he feels HE is neglecting dmil and we must all do more to help her. I tried to be agreeable and cooperative on phone last night, but after talking w/dh later... I am thinking I am just about ready to tell dbil --
I have spent, on average, at least an hour a day w/dinlaws for the past nine years. 90% of the food, misc. supplies, and medicines that have come in this house have been delivered by me (and dh). I don't really feel I am neglecting anyone -- except possibly my own dmom -- and I am doing just about all I can do.

Need to call dmom and see what HER d?bil is up to today...

Must share w/dmom also -- saw this on the Internet -- please excuse the language!
Before you diagnose yourself with depression or low self-esteem, make sure that you are not, in fact, simply surrounded by a__h____s.
;)
Hope I haven't offended anyone! Y'all forgive me.
Tomorrow is another day.

Lucylee, I'm northern, pretty hard to offend me! Loved the quote!

Dh and I have gone through the business filing cabinet - all that is left in it at the moment is office supplies and I have to keep those in there, they'll be easy to toss in a box at the last minute. The current files fit in two archive boxes. We have also gone through the archive boxes in the storage room. Some were already labeled 'shred when dead' so they went to the garage to be taken to the shredding company. The remainder have been organized and are awaiting advise from our accountant as to what we can get rid of. We've been in business 17 years so obviously some of it can go. On the other hand, it is only 5 archive boxes so not an excessive amount to keep.

I'm starting in on the household filing cabinet now. Since I combined two into one a few years ago and then moved the one in February, I don't have a lot to pull from there. Unfortunately, I'm missing 2005, 2006 and 2012 income tax files. I had 2012 out in Feb so really don't know where those are. Dh pointed out they may be out of order in the cabinet so I'll look again. But it isn't as if there aren't a ton of files all over the kitchen, living room and dining room, that I'm 'acting on" at the moment so they may turn up yet.

This upcoming week is a garbage week which is why we are starting on more clearing out of things.

Quick C.I.

Got up at 6:30 a.m., had QT, 2 cups of coffee, but ended up napping later. Have s2s, etc... It'll be lol day at our house, especially towels/facecloths. I've got athlete's foot, so after showers, although I dry between the toes with a bath towel, I want them EXTRA dry before putting Aftate on, so use the little crocheted facecloths. Do that twice a day, plus use them on my face (NOT the same ones!) So have lots of little facecloths to wash up.

Kathryn, How fortunate that your donations are going to someone in need. :D

Lucylee, I hope D?bil isn't training dmil to be helpless. :!: It sure can backfire on someone!

Booksaver, So sorry your winter weather's returned! :(

Harmony, You're getting a lot done! :)

Dee, I'm glad you got into the Village and that strange message went away! :D

Am planning to watch the Eagle Cam today, work on outline templates and 1 story, declutter in the main office, since my small office is done and catch up on all lol. :D

Have a super Saturday, Everybody! :D

A very quiet day in our village.

I have felt quiet, too. Dd spent the night with a friend. Dstepson had called too late to ask her to the fancy car show with them. He was worried she needed to have a distraction. I guess she is getting that with her friend, anyway. HRH was upset the day before yesterday when Sammie died, and I was calm. That reversed yesterday and I was a headache-y, depressed basket-case while he tried to make me feel better.

Today I gathered a couple unknown wildflowers for pressing. This may be my TaDa. Oh, wait, I watched a hoarding program and armchair-quarterbacked the organizer. That's like... what? ..... video continuing education for decluttering. I was really good with the color commentating.

Hope you find good deals on computer stuff, BookSaver.

Progress!
[x] sheets in the dryer now
[x] walked 3 miles
[x] talked to dmom for 1.5 hours (while walking and pulling up weeds in the yard)
90% of the food, misc. supplies, and medicines that have come in this house have been delivered by me (and dh).
Just caught a mistake there -- meant to say THEIR house -- dmil's/dfil's when he was living.

Ivy, I used to get athlete's foot a lot when I was younger. Sooo aggravating!

Kathryn -- glad you enjoyed the quote. Dmom liked it too!
You are doing so well with the packing and organizing and everything. Oh how I wish my dmom could follow your example. Dbro said last night that she has some goals -- for example, she told him she wanted to have the Corvettes and the boat sold by Memorial Day. We shall see.... But at least, setting a goal is better than sitting and thinking about nothing but old Western tv shows, right?

BookSaver, we call it Dogwood Winter here, b/c the dogwoods have started (or are about to) start blooming. It was sooo cold last night -- I thought! Actually, about 45 degrees -- but when it is 80 one day and 45 the next night, that cool breeze is COLD. Maybe it will actually be spring eventually for all of us. DH and I were talking, "spring" for us IS 80 degrees in the daytime with cool weather at night. When summer gets here, it's just hot and steamy day AND night. My perfect weather would be 72 degrees and breezy, 24/7/365. I guess a lot of people would order those kinds of days wouldn't they?

It does sound like you're having a good day, Harmony -- and very productive, too! Maybe Mr. Harmony won't get into too much trouble, visiting his dad and the older friend!

(((Dee))) Hope you're feeling better now!

(((Harriet))) What do you do with the pressed flowers after they have dried? I mean, are you doing scrapbooks, or using them in some other crafty way, or what?

I need to s2s, do Bible reading, and then go to CVS.

Oh, did I tell y'all? DGS is at the circus for the first time ever. I hope he can sit still for it. He will be back with us again tomorrow afternoon, which will make for a long Sunday... but he IS beginning to be able to play with stuff for a little longer period of time. He will help me stack blocks now, rather than immediately knocking down everything, and he played with his little Fisher Price barn for a while last night. Next Saturday, I am supposed to take him to a community Easter egg hunt. Hmmm... wonder how THAT will go? DS/DDIL are going to a wedding out of town, so we'll have him all day Saturday & Sunday... plus probably for most of Tuesday night & Thursday evening.
And sometime next week, we need to get the brakes fixed on our Tahoe. They are not grinding or screeching or anything, but they have a sort of "bouncy" feel to them when stopping.
Wmart Monday... and d?bil wants us to take dmil to beauty shop? * sheesh *
Tomorrow is another day.
