SATURDAY SOJOURN

Post by DeeClutter »

Where will your Saturday take you. Imagine some of you are cleaning up after 4th of July celebrations. Ours here are still to come. Lots of fireworks around and all the poor pets were left trembling. DD has a thunder coat for dBailey & ddil#1 bought one for their German shepherd yesterday. Helped some but he was still cowering against the wall under the table last night. Tonight there'll be a big display right here. Dh has already gone to work and I know it will be a very busy day for him. DS-R worked security last night here from 8pm till well after midnight. Not sure what hours he'll have today, but do know it'll be quite heavy throughout the day.

My little finger (right hand) is quite offending this morning and hurts like crazy when I have to type with it. Thank goodness not too many letters use that one. Trying to avoid it I see. Good ol' Uncle Arthur.

It was very chilly in here this morning. About 61. Finally broke down and turned on the furnace. Sounds like it's just getting ready to shut down. Was up earlier than I wanted to be, but I was cold.

I've had meds and done all my testing. Had a birthday cake for DS-A last night but I just simply didn't want any so BSugar was good this morning. Today is actually his birthday, my last birthing day -we always called him our "leftover firecracker". Appropriate name as he grew up.  He was already over 3 weeks late.

Dh is quite disappointed that he can't go to dgs14's race tonight. They have a 50 lapper and I am very glad I WON'T be there.

I'm up.

New blinds work but aren't matched when working. They are vertical blinds and each vein is curved so that they fit together tightly when in the closed position. But they aren't symmetrical and work well in one direction and perfectly in the other. Unfortunately, in our bedroom, because of the way we have them set up. one side, when closed with the pretty pattern facing us is in the right direction and the other side shows the white side that is supposed to be against the glass. We could switch them but if we do, they'll show the white to us when pulled all the way to the side. Light-wise, either way blocks enough light to sleep in the morning, but when set imperfectly, the heat builds up between the blinds and the glass and creates a thermodynamic flow of air that has them swaying slightly, creating a kaleidoscope effect as the light dances around the room. If I turn them the 'perfect' way, the movement stops. So we'll have to decide what to do. It really depends on how often they are pulled to the side. If we don't do that often, we can hang them the 'correct' way around since the white of the backside only shows when they are pulled to the side.

Who would have thought vertical blinds were so complicated?!

Dh is finished his exercising (first morning in 2 months!) and is s2s so I need to get moving. Spent the morning so far writing my cousin.

Lovely 4th of July here - beautiful weather but "peopled" out! I took a nap on our back porch while dh was out - went out there to read, then found a blanket and napped. Cool breeze, birds singing, it was perfect. Then to the pool for a couple of hours - low country boil there so ate well. I got in the water, too and talked to all the women. Came home at four and s2s-ed and headed to temple for 5 p.m. meeting and then services. And back home for a little break, and back out to watch fireworks from our hill - a bunch of us took chairs and all to the yard with the best view. They had some fireworks to shoot off and we could see fireworks all around going off.

I had ddogs crated in the garage into the night. No windows so they couldn't see the sky light up, and I had a fan going and also radio for them. I was trying to stay up long enough for the fireworks to stop so I could uncrate them, but there were still fireworks close at 11:30. Dh got them in later, I don't know what time but they seem ok today.

DMacs has his usual PT today and we'll see if the new splints are helpful to him. He's had a bad week and I was worried about him not being able to move around in the crate last night.

Tonight we have a big wedding to attend. I'm really hoping for some time just to hang out today. We may be going to friends tomorrow afternoon to visit and enjoy their pool. Big weekend for socializing, I'll be glad in some ways when dh and ds are out of the house on Monday a.m.!

Would never have dreamed so many complications with blinds, Kathryn. You do have challenges. And while on the subject of challenges:
Didn't get to bike today so will try and bike twice as much tomorrow.
;) :? In my math class I learned that 2x0 is still ZERO. Hope your day is filled with no pain and as much exercise as you like. Now I AM ducking and running>>>>>>>>>>

That was funny Dee!

I'm up, s2s-ed, teeth care done. I'm working on my 2nd cup of tea, then bfast will be done. I did not go for a jog this morning after all  I was tired and slept in a bit and then there wasn't enough time. I need to be walking out the door to a meeting in 15 minutes. I'm looking forward to the morning I don't have to be up and out the door. . . . --But this is the only appt. on my calendar for today! :) There are some errands I'd like to get done and perhaps some yard work too. And some deskwork type stuff as well.

We had a nice time with our friends here last night. Though, dd18 did end up throwing up later in the evening. .. . I don't quite understand, but I think she took an antibiotic pill that she was supposed to take once she started having tummy issues in Haiti. She said all the other team members had already taken it. I suspect that is what set off her stomach. Apparently, R told her to take it last night. Granted, R is an MD, but he is not her MD. . . . Still, I didn't hear or see any of this so I'm not 100% sure what happened. I'm hoping she's better today. Anyhow, dh and the boys (ds and B's 2 sons) set off the firworks and we enjoyed that safely. The hens came out of their coop to see what was going on, and then they went back in. It was kind of funny; they didn't seem too concerned by the noise and light. The dogs were OK too; Pepper in the past has loved fireworks so much she has tried to go "play" with them. Lots of food, though we could have made more hamburger patties. I bought 3 lbs. gr. beef for burgers and 3 lbs. chicken breasts to grill for 12 people, including 3 guys ages 20 - 22. I think dh made the burgers larger than I had expected. Plenty of ice cream and brownies for dessert! :)

OK - I need to go.

Good morning SHE friends!

I haven't been around the boards in a few months. I started my first full time teaching job last fall. Between that, life, and family, I simply ran out of time! Thank God for summer vacation! I have lots of plans for the summer, figured I'd come back home to the SHE boards and see if I can't actually accomplish some of them. By the end of the school year, my house/emotional state/life was falling apart. I need to take some time this summer to set up things so that doesn't happen as bad next year.

I am hoping to do a bit each day in each area of focus. If I can make a little progress each day, then by the end of summer I'll be better off than I am now.

Summer Focus!
*House (need to establish better routines, CLEAN AND DECLUTTER, be ready for hubby to do a few repairs when he gets around to them, get kids to establish better routines)
*Masters Degree (daily work in my classes, keep up with reading and assignments)
*School Planning (the more I can do during the summer, the smoother my year will go next year. Plus, I know a little better what to expect now!)
*Food (I ran out of my healthy lunches and didn't have the time to make more after winter break. Need to focus on canning about twice as much soup, and make a LOT of freezer meals for hubby and I for lunches. Also want to be better about having dinner planned out for work nights. It got really old not eating dinner until 9 or 10 at night. More crock pot meals, more freezer meals that are already prepped. Those really helped a lot, I just ran out of them and didn't have time to restock.)

We already had our family vacation (just ending it this weekend). Hubby goes back to work on Monday. After that, I have until the last week in August to be ready for school to start!

Woot! another SHE found us!

BTW: the .net phpbb site seems to be down. Our homepage is up but that doesn't do anything. We just got notification there had been activity with regards to the .net address. That's the first step towards retrieving it for us.

Dh and I went for a bike ride. From our place over to the farmer's market. Walked around and back. Dh had a flat front tire and owned a replacement tube (actually two of them because there was a 10 year old one in his bike bag) but he hadn't taken the time to fix the tire so he had to stop twice to pump up. We cut the ride short for that reason. The farmer's market is in a nice area with lots of interesting cafes and bakeries so in the future we'll make that a regular ride. Bonus - it is there 7 days a week and there are bike lanes, paths or quiet streets the whole way there.

I modded my basket so it will take a strap so I can carry it in the market and then pop it back on the bike. It used to have a carry handle that was in the way so it was taken off and lost over the years. The basket itself is skewed from the bike being dropped but I don't want to spend the money on a new one when this one still works. I'll replace it when the mounting point breaks (and it is plastic so it will break, probably soon.)

Dh fixed his tire when we got home, working on the grassy part of the apartment complex. The grounds aren't great but they aren't bad either. I just haven't walked around before due to pain.

Heel is getting sore now (I wandered around looking for dh after I put my bike on the balcony upstairs. I did manage to dismount the bike properly. So there's a sign of greater flexibility.

TADA!
showered (this is HUGE! :D DH finally installed a shower in our home (13 years, no shower) in May. After 3 days, the temperature control went out and it was straight cold. DH just fixed it yesterday so we have a fully functioning shower again!)
switched/started laundry
dressed to shoes, hair up
unloaded/loaded dishwasher
wiped counter down next to coffee pot
dished up leftover potato salad for breakfast

Not sure what is up next. DH is awake now and I never try to plan things on days he is home.
