Throw Back Thursday

Post by Lady Maverick »

I was reading & nodding in agreement yesterday discussion of little ones and missing those precious moments.

Living through those precious fleeting moments is also a dally challenge! I would love to hear some of your child raising challenges too.

Yesterday LO was practicing with a lasso and managed (accidentally I think) to rope my foot as I was walking across the yard. I didn't fall Thank Goodness!

Yesterday a DFriend posted this to his FB -
Bring home a new toilet for the powder room - on the box it says you can flush 16 golf balls without clogging. DSon4 comes out of the powder room and yells "yep dad it can flush 16 golf balls - this thing is awesome!" I guess I should go check out the golf bags.
Stay curious. Challenge assumptions. Success loves persistence.

Never a dull moment at your place LM.
I am wondering at the thoughts at sewage plant and septic tank at the golf ball challenge. Like waving a red flag at a bull...

here
busy thursday.
Call from someone from another group... I wonder how to discourage those calls at dinner time. They do go on and on.
Just begin.
Living this day, today
Take a reality check; Remember to breathe; Do what I am able to do.
Look for the good in all.

Just waiting for dneighbors to get ready to leave -want to run out and tell them good-bye. Just ran over to tell her to feel free to use our bathroom -as he's already winterized theirs. She was grateful! :D

Dh has gone to breakfast on the other side of the city with some other Big Yellow Box retirees. He doesn't very often make it -always the first Thursday of the month. Not sure he's been there this year. As usual he was running late so hope he doesn't speed. He was trying to figure the best route to get there without going across the city. In rush hour traffic? Not!!

I was going to go up to do laundry but dh says the mosquitoes are really heavy up there right now. May have to go to town to do at least some. Or I may just go buy dh a new batch of short socks -he needs them I guess. Have to go to town to get gas anyway -it's gas sale day. Anxious to see how much I put in this week. I'm liking the mileage. Was almost at 28mpg yesterday. I can like this. Know last week it was almost $20 less, but it's a smaller tank, but it also was still one week's gas. So I think I'll be winning.

Have morning routine pretty well done. Was expecting to a place down the road for dinner as a mutual friend is coming in from FL today for their class reunion. Had a note early that they have cancelled because their flight gets in too late to fit everything in. So maybe dh and I will go out to dinner instead. If we do that I have to remember to deposit checks right next door to the restaurant.

I'm up and s2s before 9. Bedroom is tidied, dishwasher emptied, kitchen is tidied (although I've started to mess it up) and I've refilled the 'magic green' pills in our travel kits with fresh and moved the older ones to the jar we use in the bedroom. These are Z-BEC StressTabs and their combination is magic at helping us to fight off colds. It is zinc, plus vitamins B, E, and C and got their name from dh who picked up a bottle on the first day of a conference because he was coming down with a cold. He actually had to walk to a pharmacy, late in the evening because I told him to get zinc and vitamin C and the pharmacist sold him these. By morning his early cold symptoms were gone.

I never got the cold that dh and ds had. I had the sore throat and a bit of a chesty cough for a few days but then it vanished without the rest of the plague symptoms that hit him. I kept thinking it would hit after Sunday or maybe Monday (I wondered if I could remain well by power of mind so I could see my friend) but here it is on Thursday and I'm still not sick.

Having my tea and chocolate now and then will have my breakfast before starting in on the housecleaning.

Good morning, villagers ~

Today's schedule is based on the regular monthly library group meeting tonight at 6:30.

I am grateful that last night I found a document I've been asked to bring to the meeting for a grant application. I had been getting really concerned because I just could not figure out where I would have put that paper. Turns out I couldn't find it because the state never sent it to me!

As with other documents such as state income tax forms, Iowa no longer automatically mails out hard copies. They will send on request (for a nominal fee), but they put most things online so people can print the specific pages themselves. That's where I finally found my document last night, a biennial report for the library friends group that I had submitted last year. Instead of sending a paper confirmation, they marked it "approved" and scanned it to their online database.

Apparently I had decided last year that I didn't need a paper copy if I can print the report whenever I need it. That sounds like a good plan in theory, but in practice it doesn't help when I forget the plan and spend a lot of time searching my paper files for something I never printed. :|

What a relief to learn that my filing system is not as bad as I'd been starting to fear!

I have already spent an hour this morning dealing with papers.

Today's 4x4:
* exercise
* punch and file papers in 3-ring binders for library group
* quick run to wm for groceries
* if time, stop at the library to pick up donations and copy documents for the grant application

If I can stay on schedule and get back from wm by 4, then I won't have to rush too much to put away groceries and cook supper before the meeting. The stop at the library before wm is optional, but if I have time to run the copies this afternoon, then I won't have go early before the meeting.

Nancy, is it a tripped circuit inside your circuit box? That's an easy fix.

Last evening I was on the phone and there was a crack of lightning and I heard the crackle in my ear against the phone. A little scary.

I was still on the phone and moving trucks around with DH at 10:00 at night last night. And again at 9:00 this morning. These are not new jobs, but ones ongoing and a short small one in the mix.

Got bills out and updated spreadsheet. I must clear my desk completely off (gonna be a big job) because I have sugar ants, those little bitty ones... and I put some bate out a couple days ago (amdro) but they don't appear to be taking it. Usually it only takes one day to get rid of those sugar ants, they take it back to wherever they are. Very annoying. Better get to it.

Need to conga around here a bit and do something. The place is getting ahead of me.

Good morning! I was up a bit before 8 a.m. - would like to get to sleep a little earlier to make getting up easier but was awake until almost midnight with "what ifs" OMM re: dsis' house.

Top three for today:
-sign cks at temple, payroll cks for religious school to other synagogue
-p/u meals for dmom, visit, refill meds, et al
-paperwork for dsis' house for trip to county seat on Friday

Need to get moving....
-s2s
-reboot laundry, fold
-kitchen, breakfast bar straighten up
-make the bed
-clear kitchen table

Then it's off I go....

I didn't get to read yesterday's PWYC, so that will be some treat time for me today, to go back and CUOP.

Also didn't get Evening Daily Card completed last night. Not so bad, you think? Came out to kitchen this a.m. and a glass had been knocked over, evidently spilling as it rolled from counter to floor (yes, I know who did it but there's no use trying to correct him). So Morning Daily Card took much longer than it should have with extra mopping, plus I have a sodden cereal box now. Sigh. also yuck.

HRH took my car to have it washed and waxed. That was nice.

Ds mowed. Just in time, too, for a (relatively small) tree to fall and just barely miss the corner of the house at dd's room after he was gone. I hate to see a fallen tree with grass growing high all around it, so that worked out best, LOL. Now if I can just get the menfolk to see the fallen tree as their quick responsibility, too. smile. Pouring rain now, though.

Like BookSaver, I've had paperwork dismay.

Have to go to SS local office tomorrow to get a card for dd. (DMV says they must see an actual original card, having a number is not enough), something we haven't had in-hand before. Oh well, wish I'd been told earlier because I could have gotten that already. Also I (or HRH) have to request in person with our photo ID, but dd doesn't need to come since no one's ever recorded what SHE looks like, can send either a school transcript or medical office print out with her birthdate and name, either of which offer the required proof - that did not die in childhood. Didn't know that either.

While on the phone, I repeated back their hours, which I was reading from the computer screen. Turns out the info is one hour off ( early ), and they've been having trouble with angry early arrivals, not able to understand what the mix-up was. So I was glad to be able to talk the lady, Mrs. Johnson, through my exact net route to the errant info page. She printed it out for a supervisor and thanked me profusely. I told her she deserved the extra time she was thanking me for, because I'd been on the phone a long time with machines who did not know what I should do ( ) , but she actually knew how to pick up a phone and listen. :)
