Think on Your Feet Thursday

"Think on your feet" - an idiom meaning to find creative solutions quickly

hmmm... ... although that IS the definition of the idiom, it may also be the definition of homemaking! ;)

Let's get out there and be ready to think on our feet!

Good Morning

I was here earlier CUOP but then DH and Dakota wanted to go for our walk. We are back now waiting for "the boys" to pick DH up for breakfast.

While he is gone I will probably make up a grocery list and then we will go pick up groceries. Don't need much - milk, fruit and veggies. We were able to get a lot of meat on sale last week. I picked up a nice boneless pork shoulder and cooked it in the crock pot. Made great pulled pork and we have eaten on it all week. Plain, with BBQ, and last night in gravy over rice. We still have a small container for sandwiches. It is great with bread and butter pickle chips.

The pesto has been frozen and I will put it in the vacuum bag this morning. Still have a small container in the fridge to put on sandwiches, etc.

The discussion about texting yesterday reminded me. I found a free app for my phone TextPlus and it lets me text free. It works well and also does group texts. When I set DH's up it used his phone number - somehow when I set mine up it gave me a new number so you have to look out for that. The problem being that when/if someone calls me back it says I'm not available. But it texts back very well. I use the group text when I want to notify all our kids at once about something (DH in hospital, etc.) It also allows one to make free calls, but I never use my phone minutes so haven't tried it.

The coyotes were singing while we walked the dog this morning. You can tell they are in the park at night by the fresh scat on the street each morning. It looks like their diet is mesquite seeds and prickly pear fruit. Dakota makes a wide circle around any of their tracks - she doesn't like them at all.

Tummy is saying it is time to find some breakfast. TTFN

I am trying a cleaner on my tablet. Seems to be helping with issues. After I changed pass word on one email having some issues sigh. Yahoo sucks on this size tablet!

We have fog today. H took the Jeep to work today. So glad I do not to have to fly today. Schools close in 2 states bc of ebola fears!

ToddlerN is here one hour today & in an excellent mood.
A few errands looking forward to that.
I have a plan for dinner.

God news tires cost less than I thought! So happy to learn that.

Kathryn, how old is Unc's sister?

With the market drop, dh decided last night to go to the office for the morning and leave later for Nashville, so it's been a calmer morning. Dog sitter gal is here studying, she is a dfriend of dd's. I am mostly ready - have gathered up clothes etc that need to be taken and will put in bag with dh's stuff so we just have one bag. Hanging clothes to wear tonight altho if out get away is going to be later in the afternoon I may change and wear those clothes in the car.

Going to relax a bit now until dh gets home in a whirlwind.

Hello, villagers ~
I have everything packed but the food. I'm taking a short break to eat an early lunch before I hit the road. Then I'll load the car with everything but the food, wash the few dishes in the sink, and load the food just before I leave.

I have left DH instructions for feeding the calico cat, since that is usually my job. I'm absolutely sure that she will let him know if he forgets.

I was shooting for an 11:00 departure but I'll be fine with anything before noon. Technically, we are not supposed to be in the camping lodge until 2:30 but people usually show up early.

However, the people who show up early have to set up all the tables, ironing board, etc. Since I'm not president nor am I officially on the event committee this time, I will not feel at all guilty if everybody else does all the set-up ;) especially since I know I will be on the clean-up crew at the end as well as doing kitchen chores each day.

Actually, I'll be doing my own part of set-up as Treasurer, since I have to stop at the bank on the way south to deposit everybody's checks for the event. I was told to wait until today to make the deposit in case we had to cancel the camp. I'll be glad to get these things out of my bag and into the bank!

The online map says it will take me a little over an hour to get there, plus I have 3 quick stops to make along the way.

I am taking my netbook with me but don't know if we will have internet access. If we do, I'll be checking in here late at night. If no internet, then I'll see y'all Sunday night.

Have a great weekend, everyone!

Thinking on my feet... hmmm...
Well, so far, I've thought with my heart, I guess -- ordered myself a new book and pre-ordered season 5 of Downton Abbey. The book is Ruth's Journey, the story of Mammy from Gone with the Wind. It is authorized by Margaret Mitchell's estate and written by the man who did the last "sequel/prequel" -- Rhett Butler's People.

I also have sheets in the washer and I did my 5-minute morning exercise routine. I do not know WHY it is so hard to make myself do that. It is not even 5 minutes. I do a 20-second plank, 10 crunches, 10 leg lifts, and 10 (modified) push-ups. Good gracious, looks like ANYONE could manage that, right? Thinking about LadyM's tiny habits from a while back, I am trying to tell myself I CANNOT LEAVE THE BEDROOM until I do my exercises.

DH is just about ready to leave to play golf, so I need to get some things done around here while he's out. OTOH, ds, along w/dgs, will likely be coming to walk soon... so... my time is not my own. Ever.

Blessed -- re: dmom -- this doctor's appt is with her NEUROLOGIST! He is the doctor who cared for my dgdad (her dad) throughout his Parkinson's disease. Dmom has the doctor give her a memory/Alzheimer's screening every year and he had ordered lab tests that would give him more insight, a baseline, I guess, for her present condition. Last Thursday's appt was to go over those test results. But he has assured her he does not think there is anything really wrong with her. He told her the main problem is that (in his words) she has "been to H*** and back over the last few years" and it will just take a little while to get herself back together, but (also his words) "this too shall pass."
I guess I could ask dmom to go along on these appts, but I have offered before and she says there is no need, she doesn't mind driving over there -- of course, in light of this latest development... I will offer again, LOL! But I think she is telling me the truth about whatever the doctor says. Just * shaking my head. *

DH just left. Must get busy.
