The phorecast (!) is for rain and wind starting at noon. Not related to the hurricane which is unlikely to affect us at all.

Off to spend time with Unc this morning. Dh's turn to learn how to make molasses candy and I'll take photos and a video. Today the CBC in Nova Scotia is putting together "A Day in the Life of Nova Scotia" and we are to submit photos or short videos shot today. I'm going to submit some of Unc and dh for the project.

Thanks for that wonderful opening for us today, K in C molasses candy makes me think of the sourgrahm cane mill my mom's family used to grow and process in the south in N. E. Arkansas. They used it for sweetening cakes and pies in the war when sugar was rationed.

The sunrise is lovely here to day. The thing to move hay or suit cases can also be for moving feed sacks I hope.

I started a doilie in the dish cloth with diff polished cotten rainbow yarn. I am trying to think what else to put in a gift basket found a couple that will be fun to fill! Maybe cheese and cookies, coffee / tea , suggestions welcome.

Good morning Kathryn. Mmm molasses candy, yum!

I was up before 6 this morning, working alongside DH who is digging out from a mound of paperwork and other problems. When he works every day, things get left behind and nothing goes forward till all the work is done. I'm feeling much stress. I had to organize big huge project that turned into 4 projects and he took that off to county. Phone calls and printouts from computer to get that accomplished.

Other phone calls, faxes, emails, scans done to get the rest accomplished. Sent him out with to-do list. Other job out in cow country got bigger as the husband did not want to do his part...no you do it please...o k a y, off to get those supplies on the way too... and I'm very grateful for the work but it sure is hard. He says he was up at 3:00 working on all this. I haven't been sleeping much except for one night...the worry wakes me up.

I have big stock pot of chilli cooking on stove, too much to go into the crock pot. At least that's done. I'm thinking I need a nap already!

My ddad's family did that, too, Nancy!

My great-grandfather ran a molasses mill like this one. The farm horse would circle and grind the sugar cane. When my father and his siblings visited, they were each given a spoon and allowed a sample! He was famous for standing on his head every bday until his 70th, after which my great-grandmother decreed that no child in the family was ever to ask him to do it again, thereby (she said) saving his life. When she passed away, he gave their farm and home so the Methodists could build a church, so the exact location of his mill is now a mystery. My green-eyed boy is named his old-timey name, for him (and for my ddad).

That's fun.

Kathryn, I hope the photos turn out great. Sometimes wish we could go back in time and give our great-grandfolk the ability to capture images as easily as we do today.

I received and printed the info on music and order of worship from the minister. He has sent PDFs this time, thinking I won't need to do any work, but one verse is cut off at the end of the page. LOL. That's okay, I'll write it in for everyone.

Loved the picture. One of the Wal ton's episodes was when the boys created molasses from sorghum (I think) that a distant relative had planted all over the mountain and made jars of molasses (again I'm trying to remember just what they were making) for the country store because sugar was so rationed during the war and everybody had run out. They had their white donkey walking round and round and then they were boiling in a big vat...course, this was Hollywood...

Anyway, I feel like the top of my head is going to come off. Fielding problems from distant job site. I'm the go between for 3 counties right now.

Need to make a dpc after reading a big stack of papers. Need to go run errands and pick up milk on the way back.

Rental car is throwing up a disturbing error message (Engine Coolant low, pull over safely and stop the car) but the resolution is for us to 1) gas up the car, 2) return the car to Hertz and 3) get something else. It is beyond them to send a runner over with a car and swap it out for us. What gets me is the the refuel the car order. Really????? This is all inconvenient to us (i.e. there's a bridge toll we also have to pay of about $5) and yet they also expect us to fill the car with gas first, completely ignoring the engine warning message.

Grrrrrrr!

Candy making and lunch is done. Will phone my sister now and see what she's up to.

Don't know how PHENOMINAL I'll be today... I've been pretty phenominal the last two days, you know... got all the ironing done Wed. and vacuumed yesterday, so I'm really giving myself a pat on the back... Dh said he might work in the yard today. My first thought: You go for it, buddy. (I did NOT say anything aloud, of course. I just turned over and went back to sleep.)

Seriously, we are planning to go to high school football game tonight. That's about as far as my plans go. Actually, my plans are very much in limbo. IF ddil wants to go, and does not want to take dgs, I have offered to stay at home w/him. Then tomorrow, dh & ds are going somewhere, near Nashville? -- I really have no idea how to get to this place although I have been there before -- and again, I have offered to keep dgs if ddil wants to go. It's that thing of ddil feeling like they have chaperones everywhere they go -- but ds WANTS dh to go b/c ds has another long drive Sunday, and he admits if he does all the driving himself, it eats up just about all the profit he will make on these trips. If his dad WANTS to go and WANTS to drive and DOESN'T want to be reimbursed for gas money, then so much the better for ds. And he knows dh does not want to go on Sunday. * sigh * (Dh also does not know he is partially being "used" as a gas ticket, LOL. I kept THAT to myself too! Aren't I doing better? I used to think if I knew something, EVERYONE had to know it. Now I'm SLOWLY learning that I can just keep my mouth shut and let people find out things on a "need-to-know" basis.)

As far as being in limbo based on ddil's plans, I really couldn't care less -- don't think I'm putting myself out waiting on her decision. I will definitely be content in whatsoever state I find myself.

That is kind of ridiculous about the rental car, Kathryn. Hope you get the replacement with no further problems!
And that is fascinating that your daunt and uncle are related to Hank Snow! Grand Ole Opry royalty, I'd say!

Yes... the news about Glen Campbell -- were you talking about the latest video, Harmony? If y'all haven't seen it, it is a beautiful song, but sooo heartbreaking. Be sure to get some Kleenex. You can probably find it on YouTube -- I'm Not Gonna Miss You.
I had a HUGE crush on Glen Campbell when his tv show was on back in the 70s. I probably around 10. He may have been my first "older-man" crush.

So sorry about ALL the upheaval in your community (and nearby community), (((Harriet))). This too shall pass. (It will be very frustrating and discouraging/disappointing in some ways while you are waiting for it to pass, but it WILL pass.)

Sounds like a very pleasant start to the day for Nancy.

I teared up at the Glen Campbell video.

We are trying to piece together a video of Unc. We could just send in a photo but the videos give a better impression of how strong he is.

Crying baby in the next room. Sigh.... This day is falling short of phenominal.

Dh has decided to refuse to return the car so called road-side service. Hertz wants to swap us for a Jeep (hmmm, luxury Volvo sedan for a Jeep - no way) - we either want a luxury car or give us a plain car back at the cheap rate I originally rented at (they upsold us at the counter.) At this point, they are sending someone to take the car to the Volvo dealership to check it out. I'm not sure why there's no-one to check the fluid level (heavy rain, high winds, not my car, you can be sure I won't do it but that's why one rents - so one doesn't have to do the maintenance, etc. on a car.)
