SIMMERING SUNDAY
Do you have something simmering (either in a pot or in your list of to-do's?) For me, I'll have spaghetti sauce simmering before we go to church. I got it all together and started cooking it last night. GD16 and her 'foster' family are coming for dinner tonight. Sure it'll be interesting. Her 'Mom' has been reminding her that this is no longer her home and she has to ask before doing anything or getting anything. Think her old room is looking quite changed at this point -so that's a good thing. We've been putting things aside that she might want to take home with her. She can't take a lot as there's just not room and they'll be going to Germany in June for a couple of years anyway.
Dh and dsonil are gone to the flea market. I have to get going as I promised I'd run to the donut shop this morning and buy some bags of coffee and if they're 'good', I might even buy them donuts.
Have a good one!

Meant to say, what a wonderful memory for you and dd, Elizabeth! Sounded like a night that just went from good to wonderful.
And a big hello to Ellyphant. Hope you stop by more often.

Re: SIMMERING SUNDAY
That was an amazing concert Elizabeth!
I'm up and puttering around. Still not completely packed, I need to get dressed so my slippers and hair stuff can be put in the suitcase. And my 'projects' although some of them might get left out so I can work on them in the car. I am bringing 4 pairs of footwear for a 4 day trip (shaking head). I have dress boots on today (and will need them for the fancy dinner out.) I'm taking my slippers (of course.) And my hiking boots (for walking outside in the cold and snow) and walking shoes (for walking inside or when the weather is dry.) Still haven't decided on my walking poles yet. It is very urban so my instinct is no. Also will bring my yoga mat only if there's enough room in dh's suitcase (it doesn't fit in mine.)
We leave in about 90 minutes so I should get moving.
TTFN! (Will probably check in at lunch and then along the way since I have mobile internet.)

Re: SIMMERING SUNDAY
Kathryn, I received the emails yesterday. I checked in my user profile and it has my correct email. I wonder why it was bouncing?
It was snowing when we went to bed last night. It looks like we received several inches.
We were going to go see "Fury" late yesterday afternoon but decided not to. Dh has a cough and he started taking his prescription cough med with codeine in it and it makes him drowsy. He is feeling better but still can't hear well. I am beginning to wonder if his hearing is permanently damaged.

The last item is out of the oven and the kitchen is 95% cleaned up.
I'm not looking forward to Thanksgiving meal at church today because the weather. It isn't suppose to be above freezing today. This is not our typical weather for this time of the year and is a bit of a challenge to have when serving food to 300+ people. Trying to keep tables of food from freezing during church.....there is just no way that I can think of to accomplish this. Maybe putting blankets over the tables of food? Thankfully there are much smarter people than me - I'm sure they will come up with some solution. One thing is for sure - it will be a memory maker.

Re: SIMMERING SUNDAY
I didn't even ck in yesterday altho I did CUOP yesterday morning. Dh and I ended up going to a tour of homes - decorated for Christmas - but otherwise quite interesting. Three were built by our builder, who was one of the sponsors of the tour and one was a penthouse on a building that was built as a downtown department store - it was very very luxe and opulent but minimal in some ways (not square feet for sure!) It had two indoor kitchen - one designed for cooking for large groups or for caterers, the other a small "everyday" kitchen that the couple uses. Then there was an outdoor kitchen with lounging areas, a fountain, landscaping...very cool. Seeing other houses built by our builder seems to get us going with the "we shouldas" about our house. We are still dissatisfied with the great room area which is small but probably not much that can be done. We love our view of course and most of the rest of the house so we probably need to work on gratitude issues....
Dh and I were getting on each other's nerves this morning so he went off to the market. I'm not sure if it's me, him or just both of us. I know I'm feeling edgy - the ddogs are on my last nerve wanting in and out and his TV likewise going.
I need to change clothes and walk the dogs, which will settle them down. I didn't do much (if any) clean up from the Friday night dinner here yesterday - dh has done some but I'd like to get that well underway. I may make chili for dinner and he's considering a trip to Costco. I know he wants out of the house today - suggested a movie but there's nothing really that we want to see...
-change clothes and walk ddogs
-kitchen and bkfast bar counter
-start the dishwasher
-straighten GR room
-s2s
Probably dh will be back before I get through this round...hope he's in a better mood.

Re: SIMMERING SUNDAY
Hi everyone!
As a matter of fact, I did want to get something "simmering" and I was wondering if anyone still had the recipe somewhere. Does anyone remember "Sticky chicken" ? Many years ago, someone on here posted a recipe for this. I have a whole chicken and I would love to make it. I have looked on numerous sites and around here, and I can't find it.
We did a lot of grocery shopping this morning and now the freezer is full again.

Re: SIMMERING SUNDAY
I had forgotten all about that "Sticky Chicken" recipe, Harriet. Maybe I'll try fixing it one day. Remember a lot of us making it back a ways.
Dh, dd and I all went to church this morning. I was trying not to shake hands or kiss anyone -at least I didn't do any kissing, but the hand shaking -that just happened in spite of myself. I do carry hand sanitizer for us to use after this part of our morning.
Stopped on the way home for lunch at P anera B read and then on to P et S mart for dog food for the resident canine. DD started only buying her a certain type last year and she does so much better on it all the way around. It was on sale so she bought 2 big bags. Should last her through till about the end of January.
DD and dsonil have gone to 'look' at vehicles. He's wanting something with better mileage for his commute to Tampa -it's about 49 miles one way. Their PT bit the dust a couple of weeks ago (and he loves it but it needs a new transmission). His heart is really on a small truck -so we'll see. Know neither one of them were very happy this morning. But dd finally got past it by the time we went to church.
I just spiffed the guest bathroom and dd mopped the tile floor in the dining room/kitchen. That's a lot of mopping. It's very difficult here because by tomorrow it will be quite dirty again. For one the dog tracks in the fine sand which is almost blackish and she also scatters her water all over and tracks it. That floor could continually use a mopping. Not sure what the answer is but there has to be one. Have never been in a place that could get so dirty so fast.
I made spaghetti sauce last night & it's been in the crockpot all day. We're combining some cukes, tomatoes & onions with ready made salad mix, cooking the pasta and having a container of Italian cookies we bought at S am's yesterday. Simple. We've already been told that the girls will do the dishes -there's 4 of them with gd16.
