HAPPY NEW YEARS! Or is it HAPPY NEW YEAR? Whichever it is, I wish that for each special friend that is a part of our village!

Happy New Year, Lilac and All!

Dh and I stayed up. He put one of our pbs stations on; first program was classical music, second one was jazz. Talked to ds#2 just after midnight then dh went to bed. It was way past his usual time of 8 - 9pm. We made popcorn and played dominoes most of the evening. We had started out with Left Center Right, but you really need at least three people for that one.

I'm going to turn the lights out now, too. I want to watch the Rose Parade, so don't want to sleep in late in the morning.

Happy New Year to everyone old and new in our village.

Went to bed well before midnight and actually slept fairly well. Woke up when dh got up shortly after 6. He wanted to start the New Year out right and went for his walk.

Think the rest of the house is still in bed. I'm s2s and meds done. Waiting for breakfast until the household gets up. Ah, think I hear a noise, but maybe it's just dh returning.

Have lots of computer work to do over the next few days so will probably check in more often.

I tried to go to bed 10-ish could not sleep so I got back up spiffed up a. It and got the kit. Back in order.

Sorry I never came back yesterday.

I got some of the paperwork done up, did payroll and headed off on a walk with dh to the post office. My new gloves continued to work brilliantly. Dh's aren't worth the $50 we paid for them so will be going back. His fingers were warmer than if he wore his old gloves but they were still cold.

We got back at 1:40, I cleaned the bathrooms and our friends (GM, GF and their ds) arrived at 2:20.

We had a good visit. Ds showed up at 3, stayed until 4 and took his cousin to the ski hill. (These people are friends, but we consider them family so ds is a cousin to their son. I know they feel the same way because that's how they've designated each other on Facebook!)

We had a nice quiet dinner and visit. Then when the boys arrived back at 10:45 we started working on the puzzle. This year it wasn't a mystery puzzle but a globe of the world. The continents came together fairly easily but there is a lot of ocean in this world! We ate while we worked, celebrated the countdown, watched fireworks across the city from the warmth of our bedrooms and office (both sides of us) and then dh and GM went to bed. GF and I headed off at 2. At that point we had finished most of the obvious ocean (Hawaii was placed, most of Polynesia was complete and it was just open ocean left.) No idea when the boys left for their suite downstairs but there is a finished globe on the table this morning.

I got up 6 hours after going to bed. The kitchen is back to rights and the tea is made. I've had way too much junk food (had to check the chips the boys left out to see if they were stale!)

The 2015 calendars are up on the walls (not a small task, we have 7 to place.)

Just LOooooVE January. You couldn't find outdoor chores if you wanted to (sorry LisaB and Lynlee, I'm exuberant and ignoring your growing grass). Also the tasks for holidays and for a lot of the hosting, or hospitality for groups is past. Community orgs and church groups relaaaax for a while.

I've been enjoying a search for internet helps for organization. Many folks have good ideas, offered free for the printing. Bless their hearts! (I already posted one in The Cleaning Forum.) Through the old-fashioned magic of tape and scissors it dawns on me I could make up my own targeted ones for printing or scanning, too. What a great sidetrack!

Delightful clean slate before us. This is just going to be the BEST year, I just know it.

(Think about changing batteries in smoke detectors. Also if your kitchen sponge/rag is growing things , change it. Hmmm... ... how long have family members been using those same toothbrushes, anyway?)

Good afternoon, and Happy New Year's Day to everyone!

Don't forget me, Harriet, our outside chores still continue, except they are slower at this time of year. Right now we have trees shedding leaves. Once they all shed the new buds/leaves come on right away.

About smoke detectors, we just got a notice from our county abut a new FL smoke alarm law: we must now install alarms powered by 10-year nonremovable, nonreplaceable batteries in new homes or those undergoing repair or alterations. We may still use the ones that are connected to electricity. Currently we use regular electric ones with regular battery backups. People will balk at this cost. And after 10 years, when those batteries go bad, they will have to replace the whole unit. How many people simply take down the chirping battery ones now? I'm afraid more of this will happen. I don't know if we must replace in the entire dwelling, which are many units, being outside each bedroom...people are not going to be happy.

Last afternoon/evening I finished my W-2's and W-3. I usually make many mistakes and have to redo some so it always takes a while.

I am watching the parades. DH has the flu, and he is very woozy and back in bed. Meal I planned for today will wait till he feels better.
