Conga Line Friday

Post by Harriet »

The early 1940s saw Americans doing the conga, the carnival line-dance form accompanied by the conical drum toted by Desi Arnaz/Ricky Ricardo as “Mr.Babalu.” - Professor Juan Flores, Department of Social and Cultural Analysis,New York University

Desi Arnaz, inspiring us on the drum - gee, he works hard

Work, Work Work, Senora!

And later we'll put on our 1940s white gloves, pencil skirts and sensible hats.

Good morning Harriet! Thanks for the cheerful conga start! :) I'll have to do most of my conga-ing tomorrow as I don't think my schedule will allow for much today.

I am up and at 'em with my mug of tea. I've fed g. pigs. I think one is sick; she would always be at the door of the cage to greet me and take the Vitamin C tab directly from my hand. Not today. They haven't been eating all their pellets for a few weeks now, which maybe is another sign someone isn't feeling well? I also let the dogs out. And back in.

Schools are cancelled today due to worsening weather and road conditions today. . .It is not snowing now, and we got maybe 1 or 2 inches last night. Once again, we are the only district in the area closed. In the past, we would often be the only district open. Maybe it is the new superintendent??

I'm going to leave for work early today to meet with my supervisor re: the software I hope to install this morning. I'll leave around 12:30. Before then, I need to:
- do a.m. routine
- WW at 9:30
- prep for class
- edit and print out revised syllabus
- prep for my tutee
- try installing the software again
- have some lunch

Then, I'll:
- meet with my supervisor at 1 pm
- teach 1:30 - 3:30
- drive through awful traffic to a library location
- tutor R 4:15 - 5:45
- go home tired and looking forward to dinner out with dh and probably dd16

Next: s2s. With the colder temps, I'm trying to get this done early so my hair can be dry before I walk out of the house. I don't usually blow dry it.

Good morning, helia and Twins' Mom!

lucylee, what is it you like about your new product? Two of my grandsons have dry skin and I wonder if it would help.

I've also had an egg breakfast - my new favorite of homemade egg "mc"muffin.

School run done well, partially because we arose at 5:30 rather than waiting until 5:45. Dd had time to work on a math sheet to get ready for next week's testing.

On the way got dcousin's bday card into mail. Completing that was a Ta-Da last evening.

Laundry was HRH's new black long-sleeved tees. He should have bought these much earlier in the winter but we were so busy. When he tried one on to make sure he had the right size, he started itching within half a minute, so they were definitely due for a full wash, not just rinse, before he wore them.

Up Next - declutter in master bedroom, which already has six 15s bubbled-in on my tracker.
And Next - focus cleaning at entry, which is already near completion for the round on my tracker. Windexing due, plus cleaning off the very top of the cabinet there, and checking on the fan.

Desi Arnaz trivia - He was a great friend of Jimmy Durante, who loved to joke about Arnaz' extra long drum solos on his version of "Babalu". Durante would say it sounded like termites with a sense of rhythm, and one of them was a vocalist.

Yeah, I just called db2 for his birthday and dm hasn't called him yet. So when she does call, he can tell her I have called. I don't call him very often, because if I call and he is drinking, he starts ranting about dad and it drives me crazy. If he calls me and is drinking, by the time we hang up, I have a meltdown over how his life has turned out. He has pretty much quit calling, but dm and db1 talk to him all the time and I keep up with his life through them.

After napping a lot yesterday, I was afraid that I wouldn't be able to sleep when I went to bed, but I fell right to sleep.

It is cloudy and cold today.

Guess I better eat breakfast, shower and head to the store.

Hi everyone!

I need to go to the bank today. Also need to get my hair "done". Even though I had a cut a couple of weeks ago (?) I want to do something other than straight across the bottom. New year, new style.

I spoke to Mike earlier this week and I was astounded at how much he said the f word! It just in almost every sentence. Wow! His dad hasn't been well, and I had told him to keep in touch regarding his parents. I think I might ignore his calls and let them go to voice mail. He is just too toxic. I am in a relationship where I am respected, and therefore his disrespect came through loud and clear.

Also, I need to buy a duvet. I have added so many blankets to my side of the bed that I can't sleep because every time I want to move, I wake up because it's so heavy to move the blanket pile. Wayne sleeps totally uncovered and has mentioned how hot he finds the bedroom. There are individual thermostats for each room, and the bedroom isn't even at 50 F/10 C. I'm going to buy some thermometers that I can hang in each room. This room shows that it is 19 C and I'm freezing.

Okay, it's 10 a.m. Time to go.
Dishes never stop.
Laundry never stops.
Litter boxes never stop.
Paper never stops.

hi everyone .. what a nice why to start our conga line!!!

today:
goal - store
focus area
desk area is a must (I needed a full day off from this)
work out
make dinner early so i get dishes done. (not like last night ;) :D )

dd younger has to make decisions - now that she will be home for this semester she will look into local classes for the last 8 weeks of the semester, she is going to take music lessons on banjo, she plays guitar and piano - but she chose the banjo as her next adventure. At least its not drums... I better not say that too loud! She also has to figure out how to get her things out of the dorm. She is applying for jobs at sailing centers this summer in hopes she can walk again without assistance.

okay time to get my franny in gear.
it is always a joy to be here with you!

I can't believe that dcleaning lady is finishing up and that I've done everything on the list. Still need to do a few smaller things and get packed but in decent shape.

I will shut computer down soon...
