Whether/weather Wednesday
Is it safe to emerge after the weather systems of early this week?
Have things warmed up enough that won't be a challenge to be outside?
What doubts do you have about your plan and how can you tweak it to remove those 'whethers'?
What resolve can you fill yourself with, so that whether or not something happens you won't be distracted from your goals?

Re: Whether/weather Wednesday
Today is supposed to be warmer than yesterday which wasn't all that bad. When we left dd's, I didn't have my hat on and had to wait for dh to pull the car away from the snow bank so I could get in and it wasn't unbearably cold.
There's hazy sun as well. We desperately need groceries so will walk for those late this morning. Just milk (we now need 2 gallons to restock) and cereal (I'm almost done my last box.) Fresh veggies as well.
Dh is performing with his choir tonight so it will be an early dinner. I don't think I'll go, although I believe it is at my ex-FIL's retirement home. At least he used to live there but he'd be close to 90 at this point and I have no idea if he still lives there, or is even alive. I'd love to see him if he was alive so I might be doing some googling today. (I don't think I even have an email address for my ex anymore and haven't heard from him in years.)
Paperwork continues to be my theme for the day along with trip arrangements. Didn't get the visas done yesterday. They're easy to do so I really need to knock them off my to-do list.

Re: Whether/weather Wednesday
I think today is forecast to be cooler than yesterday, but it is already 9* so it's not awful. Friday morning, temps w/out windchill are forecast to be about -19F. I don't think I've seen temps (w/out windchill) that low since we moved here. I really hope our 2 hens will be OK.
Lilac, that does sound just like my cousin J!
Yes, he is a very handsome guy with a big friendly personality. He should be in his early-mid 50s, if I'm remembering correctly. Yes, I would imagine he can fly a plane, so that sounds like him. My uncle flies and used to have a runway on one of his farms. Maybe he still does - I don't know.
I have a lot of little things I'd like to get done today. I'm wondering whether I work on them before payroll or after. I guess I'll dig in before payroll and then see what is left afterward.
Goals for today
- finish shopping for R's birthday and wrap gifts
- open bank account for dd16
- prep for class
- laundry
- NY cards
- payroll
- tidy house a bit; dh is hosting a small church-related meeting at our home at 7 a.m. tomorrow morning. Ack!!
- exercise?
- celebrate R's birthday at S and R's home

Re: Whether/weather Wednesday
Cold morning here - it's 24 degrees and light snow but not expected to accumulate more than an inch. I have to go out to a luncheon today - a benefit luncheon for a local organization. The elderly friend who invited me is a daughter of the founders and it's always enjoyable, just hate to have to get "gussied up" and go out today. Should mention that there was also snow last year when this friend invited me to this luncheon, and I cancelled on her for less precipitation than today, so I'm feeling I really need to be there. Also should get groceries and need to p/u meds for dMacs at the vet. Wed is usually my errand day so I need to figure out what else I need to do.
Oy, looks like I should visit dsis tomorrow - weather is iffy on Friday evening into Saturday. I'd prefer not to be on the road during bad weather, even tho I am going south.
Right now:
-grocery list/to do list for today
-breakfast/meds/vitamins
-kitchen clean up
-s2s
-sort and start a lol

Re: Whether/weather Wednesday
Good morning, villagers ~
Thanks for opening the thread, Kathryn.
Weather ... I'm not sure what the actual temperature is supposed to be today because the radio dj has only been announcing the wind chill. At the warmest part of the day, the wind chill is predicted to be -25F. Yes, negative 25. I will be wearing many layers when I go out later.
I am consoling myself with the thought that at least we don't have the ice that Harriet is battling or the mountains of snow like the east coast. The snow we have is going to hang around a long time, but our roads are clear and dry today. As long as I don't have car trouble, I will be totally safe because my times out in the cold will be very brief.
I am grateful for a working furnace, a warm home, and appropriate clothing.
Today's schedule:
* A few bookkeeping tasks for the sewing and library groups.
* LEGO Club at the library, I need to be there about 2:30 and will get home around 5:30.
* I want to prep supper before I leave for LC to have it ready to cook as soon as I walk back in the door.
* Must look up statistics for LEGO Club attendance last summer to start planning for this summer.
* A couple things need to go out in the mail, must get those ready to take to the post office on my way to LEGO Club.
* As always, a stack of papers to sort through. With any luck, at least half of them can go straight into the recycle bin.
* Trash and recycling go to the curb tonight.

Re: Whether/weather Wednesday
Stay warm and safe all in the grip od winter.
weather here :- whether the cyclone does a number combining with the tight isobars remains to be seen, but predictions for needing to be emergency prepared are ramping up. It may be a false alarm, but fronts and lows without cyclone status do a number on winds and rain. homes and floods. Expecting half meter of rain over the 2 days. And for local beach sand to exit.
The worst expected day, my dm has her last old friend's funeral so I hope she is able to go, and things aren't too hectic. She also has a doctors appointment earlier that day for stitches out from her latest skin cancer removal. I wish she would see a specialist, but she seems to trust those doctors.
I had the 'good' tai chi instructor today. Hoping I remember the moves so far. At least I seemed to have a handle on them while we were doing them.
My sense of humor is lacking lately. People place things. Powerless over these.

Hi, Lynlee ~ I'm glad you had a good experience at tai chi. That sounds like an alarming amount of rain. Stay safe.

Re: Whether/weather Wednesday
Okay, so Lynlee's whether is a what? A cyclone?
Now see, that's just not right.
((Lynlee)), do you need to borrow a cup of humor? Wait a sec... I had some around here somewhere.
Our Whether is a "snow" (ice) day for schools. So another day of this odd situation.
I have been studying the weather carefully and I think I see our best chance for errands, to bank (for church - I wouldn't bother for me), to pharmacy 1, and, if we continue to feel confident, to grocery because of a couple gaps. There is a sweet spot from 1 to 2, for as much length of sun as possible before we start into the snow that's coming.
The snow this afternoon/evening will tell a tale, since temps will be so low tonight, but I would think it is possible schools could run on a later schedule tomorrow. I'm just not sure. If the DOT warns of a serious black ice threat one morning but then it snows the next day, would the roads still be such a concern that you couldn't chance school opening the next day either? Hmmm... ... I know the school officials agonize over this.
A Ta-Da. I organized our church choir music yesterday afternoon. Our bass singer had mentioned he'd done some work on it and so I volunteered to take it home and do more. It took about an hour and was an interesting project. Because I wanted to use page-protectors for some, I used my trick
of writing on the sticky part of a post-it note and cutting only the sticky part away to use. That way I could label the inside of a page-protector so that the protected label could be seen from outside, but all the edges of the label are affixed, and if we change later we've lost very little with no residue. A sharpie works well on those.

Re: Whether/weather Wednesday
LOL Harriet! I needed a laugh this morning.
Well here I am again with my woe-is-me weather report.
Since we got up we're down 5°. And it will be 30° in the wee hours so that means I will have to cover everything up. I have green peppers trying to grow, I have a lot of cauliflower growing nicely but not headed yet and I have broccoli the same and a couple tomatoes too green to pick. I'm not happy. Covering everything is a lot of work and sometimes the covers blow off and it's all for nothing. Freezes are hard on Floridians.
I am in limbo. DH has the car. 2 trucks are on way-away jobsite, 1 full of new sod...which come to think of it won't be good with the freeze. Big truck is at in town job with helper. DH had dr. apt. this morning (yearly apt) and he says he fell asleep in waiting room waiting for dr. Then he took off to see other job and will pick me up on the way back. I need the car for a trip to county office this afternoon. Trying to get one job completely finished so she can move in.
My doorbell this morning was not the homeless tour. It was 2 men in suits, the J. W.
My house is a wreck. I feel too stressed to deal with it. My sis-in-law was here yesterday and I was embarrassed. She walked into kitchen and left me a note
(this is the woman who gets up at 3-4 every morning if she even sleeps that long). Come to think of it, she's coming by this afternoon also - I better get busy around here.

Re: Whether/weather Wednesday
Harriet: thanks for the tip with post-it notes and page protectors. I'd never have come up it that on my own but think it might be a solution for multiple organizing tasks.
I've updated the operating system on my computer. It was running awfully slow this morning so obviously needed a reboot and I hate to reboot without doing an update as well.
I've s2s and am pushing myself to get going.
A quick google discovered there is still someone with my xdfil's initial and surname at the retirement home where dh will be singing tonight so I think I'll go along. That will cut hours from my day so I really need to get moving now.
I went to bed, lights out, at 9 last night. I was exhausted and might have got a second wind but decided to pamper myself. Dh started our morning routine 30 minutes early because he misread the clock (2 of 3 digits were starting time!) and I still didn't get out of bed until after 7. Despite the longer time in bed, I'm no more rested or motivated than I was yesterday. Sigh....
