Not feeling creative today (good thing the service was written days ago!)

What are your plans for today?

Yesterday's workshop on consumerism also focused on Sabbath and John Bell has a message on his computer that sends out a notice to everyone emailing on a Sunday, (paraphrased) "My owner has given me a day of Sabbath rest, this email will be delivered on Monday when he powers me back up again."

The Biblical idea of Sabbath includes rest for slaves, foreigners, land, and animals. We don't stop caring for these items but we do stop working them on the Sabbath. So he's given his computer, which in theory is slave to him, a day off.

For Lent, I'm giving up shopping on Sunday. I came to this practice this past week, but after the first Sunday of Lent. Thankfully, I hadn't been to a store last Sunday so, unintentionally, I started this practice. I made sure we went to the store last night so there's no excuse to go today. I've also decided to eat at home instead of going out to eat.

I lived in a small town for a couple years where all but a few restaurants were closed on Sunday. At first, as a suburban/city of Chicago person, it was hard to understand how everything shut down but I grew to love having Sundays for fun and family. I used to think I had - One more thing I would have to do on Sunday. I don't like shopping on Sunday any more. I have to get in the habit of celebrating Sunday's again. Thanks d Kathryn for the reminder.

dd younger.. well I am grateful she finally fell asleep - really painful day for her yesterday. Sleep restores the brains ability to heal.

Started in on another project that I hope to get done before we leave.

I've had my breakfast. Need to s2s now and then get back to working on my to-do list. It doesn't sound like a Sabbath because it isn't!

I like being truthful in my homemaking journey as it keeps me realistic about my home. It's so easy, for me, to let things- alias Clutter become part of my visual landscape... the clutter seems to become part of what is normal when I know those things out are far from part of what should be there.
By stating what I am looking at helps me actually see the clutter that is happening and will build if I don't take care of it.

When I think clutter I tend to think garbage or extras but the truth is I am right now cluttering my home with needed things that haven't been put away. I don't even notice them anymore. It kind of reminds me of a movie with Orlando bloom, Kiera n. and johnny depp - where the dad becomes part of the ship and no one sees him until he makes himself noticed (for me that would be tripping over that item).

So right now - these are the things that have become part of my landscape to the point that none of us are noticing them -
2 days ago I washed the dining room, front hall and kitchen floor.. the 2 vacuum cleaners are still there, a 12 pack of paper towels are still there, toilet paper rolls to go upstairs - still there, dd youngers clean laundry in a basket in the dining room - there for 3 days. Our winter coats - on church bench in front hall - 3 days. a basket of dirty laundry in kitchen... My car still has dd youngers things from her dorm room in them.- these things have become part of our visual space - I haven't wash my kitchen stove top in 2 days... -

I know if I don't start noticing things cluttering up - the house will become bad. It is just amazing how I can let things become part of my visual landscape.. maybe it's like that blue/black and white/gold dress thing going around on the internet

So to really "see" things (clutter) in my house.. I go back to the old take a picture routine before I start - it's amazing how much clutter I can get used to in just days. I laugh that I have to imagine my house like a painting...I am a visual person... because what I am seeing is a whole lot of crazy.

Thanks for opening the thread, Kathryn. I like your plan for Lent. There will be many more distractions as time gets closer to your cruise date, so it's good that you have this part of your plan set.

Hello, Blessedw2! Very few businesses are open in my Tiny Town on Sundays. The little grocery store is open part of the day. I know the locally-owned gas station pumps will take credit cards for gas but I'm not sure if the convenience store part is open. The dollar store and the truck stop out on the highway are recent enough additions to the town that residents still marvel at being able to buy things all day, and go "out to eat" (fast food burgers or subs) on a Sunday.

Already this morning I have
* fed all cats,
* washed half of the dishes,
* replied to an Email,
* worked on the month-end report for the library group,
* opened the Cleaning Focus thread for March, and
* opened the spreadsheet for the month-end report for the sewing group.
I'm going to have a short coffee break before I do any more work.

Today's goals are:
* finish the first draft of month-end reports for library and sewing groups
* 2 or 3 decluttering sessions in my office
* read a backlog of Sunday newspapers so they can be recycled
* ... nope, that will be enough for a snowy Sunday!

D book good morning. I do love having the shops closed especially for the people who work there. By me - nothing closes except on Christmas and even then it is not a guarantee. I miss that. I wish you a great day too!!!

Good morning, SHEville! I have decided to stay home this morning. Dh got up and evidently went to the flea market so he'll probably plan on going to church. I just happen to have more energy in the morning and I really need to tackle more of our room/bathroom. I was awake last night from 11pm until after 4am. Slept till almost 7, got up for a 'break' and went back to bed until 7:30. Got the post up for Joys & Concerns for March, but there were already several later on Saturday -please read those as you have time today.

Need to get some paint cans out of the bottom of our linen closet. Guess is that it's wet under there. Keep thinking of things that may have to be emptied and overturned to dry the bottoms. Have a big bench by our desk (that ds-A) built many years ago. Sure enough the feet were all wet. Emptied it (and threw away more things -I am being forced to declutter) and tipped it one way all day yesterday with the electric fireplace aimed at it. Last night we tipped it the other way. I finally had to turn off the fireplace during the night -just way too warm in here. Turned it back on this morning.

Expect dd home in an hour or so. She and her co-teachers stayed in Orlando last night to pick up and pack up all the things from competition. All the kids came home after the banquet and awards. Would have been wee hours of the morning before dd could leave. She'll be sleeping today, I'm sure.

DD and dh will be going to her dentist in New Port Richey early Thursday morning for her 4 root canals. Supposedly this dental surgeon can do them in a 1/2 hour. Hope so for her sake. She had said she could go alone, but dh thinks not. Especially if anything goes wrong or she ends up having more anesthesia than she thinks.

My plans for today are greatly influence by the snow/ice. Church has been cancelled. MPB is closed along with several of the other businesses in our small town.

Yesterday we made several flavors of snow ice cream. It was a silly time as the two little ones decided what flavor/color they wanted. Color was much more important to them than the flavor!

We also stayed outside until they were too cold to play in the snow more. I had a big pile of wet play clothes to process when they were finished. We don't get enough snow to have special clothing for it so we just go with boots (to keep feet dry) and lots of layers.

Kathryn, I do take a nap on Shabbat (yesterday) if at all possible. I consider that my "rest" - otherwise we do other things - grocery, social engagements and other obligations.

We're having a young couple over for brunch this morning, eeeeek! and I'm running late on even getting up. Menu is omelettes, (dh specialty) fruit salad, bagels, lox, cream cheese and mimosa, coffee, iced tea, etc.

-straighten kitchen, Great room, breakfast table and breakfast bar
-bite to eat and take meds
-ddog meds
-quick s2s
-weigh and record weight (after one cup of coffee)

Blessedw2 ~ I just saw a picture book that I thought the illustrations were very cute. Pretty Minnie in Paris by Danielle Steel (the same DS who writes all the romance novels). Minnie is a Chihuahua. If you search for the title at Amazon, they have it set up so you can see several of the pages.

The style of the book is very much like the Fancy Nancy series by Jane O'Connor.
