Thursday Thoroughness

Post by Harriet »

Although we may hurry through some tasks to be efficient, sometimes we need to get out that "fine toothed comb", don't we? :)

What have you been completing in a "just so" manner lately? Have you been dotting "i"s and crossing "t"s to be sure tasks come up to your standards? Maybe you'll supervise someone's tooth-brushing today, or check to see if they have washed behind their ears. ;) Perhaps you will proof-read something you send, or re-read something you receive, to make sure of good communication.

Kathryn and Ken in Canada have a task at which they are being thorough lately.

Lilac's dh is celebrating his birthday :D with a thorough new flooring job in their home.

Elizabeth and others among us are being thorough with taxes these days.

Lynlee, we hope you can get thoroughly cooled off soon!

What requires thoroughness at your house today?

Well, I hope that I'll be thoroughly through sneezing shortly -meantime I'll try to post.

Sorry things are taking longer than planned K&KIC -but if anyone can accomplish this it will be you two. WHAT would we do without you?

Had a hard time getting to sleep last night and finally slept a couple of hours. Got up about 3:50 for a bathroom break. I was afraid to go back to sleep as dh had to get up before 5. Of course I dozed off then and slept until 5:12. :o  He went to New Port Richey to the dentist with dd. I went out to make sure she was up and saw her light under the door. Went back out to switch on the coffee. Tried to go back to bed after they left about 5:30 but to no avail. Had to get a deposit together for the bank so did that and am working on a shopping list. Plan to go within the next hour.

DD has 4 root canals today and then work on some other teeth and impressions for her bridge. They told her to plan on at least 5 hours. Dh seemed to think they'd be back by 9:30 or so. Guess he didn't realize she had all this other work besides the root canals. She's already planned for tomorrow off -sick days today & tomorrow.

Time for meds, breakfast and coffee.......
Begun is half done -SO! JUST BEGIN!!

You would just set up new forums somewhere else and start fresh.

It is frustrating for dh and I, after managing to salvage the old forums (that still counts as a miracle since we had no access to any of the tools to transfer forums), to now, with full access to all the accounts involved and all the tools available, be unable to do a simple transfer to a new server.

Dh is going back to first principles and wondering if the tool that allows us to create a tool at GoDaddy isn't working. We proved to us (and them) the account works to put up a simple webpage, but we can't create a phpBB. If we can't do that, then we can't move the forums over so we need to figure out why we can't do that. GoDaddy supplies a tool that creates phpBB but doesn't offer any support on that tool (dh heard the support tech say he'd never heard of phpBB which I find completely unbelievable but it may be true.)

In the frequent flyer forums there's the acronym HUCA (hang up, call again) when you get a booking agent who can't do what you need to them to do (i.e. you can see a flight for sale but they say they can't transfer your booking to that new flight.) I think we'll be trying that until we hit a support person who knows something.

I'm equally frustrated with bookkeeping stuff this morning. Last night while dh was working on the website I moved into the office to be handy to answer questions or help and went to reconcile an investment account. But my opening balance was off. I have spent almost 2 hours this morning and am now to the point where I can begin that process. Everything was entered and should have been reconciled to the end of Jan 2014, but there were mistakes in August 2013 and October 2013 so I had to find and fix those. In the move, we shredded all 2013 and prior statements so I was working blind for a while until I remembered how to trick the system into generating statements online (if you get paper statements, the system won't show you online ones but when you switch to online, magically all old statements appear!)

The living room is a disaster as I pawed through all the files I could find, pulling out boxes of records, looking for the missing paper statements.

Oh, and I'm not yet dressed. Today that will be a long process as I have to henna my hair today.

Time seems to be flashing by quickly as the deadline for the trip approaches.

The boards will be up and down today as we try other stuff.

A turnkey tool that did not work for dh last night worked for me this morning so we may be shutting down the boards shortly.

The issue, of course, is that dh has worked through the block of time he set aside for this so his regular work is now interrupting us. Europe is well into their workday, as is eastern North America and by 3 this afternoon New Zealand will be in the office so it will be very possible to find things up and down. If we aren't making any progress, we'll enable the boards again, so they'll only be down when we are trying to avoid losing posts made today. We have a back up now to play with so we do have data to put into the new system to see if we know what we are doing.

If the boards are not working for you, check your email. If you don't have an email, check your spam filter (dh and I get 3 different emails when I do a mass email and every one of them were in spam filters last night!) As long as the boards functioning properly, I'll use the mass emailer from phpBB. If they are down for whatever reason, the email will come from the SHEsOrganized gmail account.

Moderators When the boards are shut down, they work normally for you but with a small note saying The Boards Are Disabled. But we can still post as normal (it took me a while to figure out why the boards were still up after I disabled them last night but dh checked and he got the message saying they were down.)

I slept quite poorly overnight again - I had set the clock to get up at 2:30 and give Moe pain meds but I woke up repeatedly before then. After giving him pain meds, I went back to sleep easily but dMacs woke me up around 5 maybe? I was up awhile with them - fed both dogs, they went out (Moe scurried out once with out anything to protect his paw from the wet) then Macs needed urgently to go out again and left some poop behind as he scurried out. So I was cleaning up poop (hard to find in low light) taking it out to garage for disposal (dh complained about me banging the door when I closed it), trying to get a baggie over Moses' paw so it wouldn't get wet, and I was very cold. Then I slept in until past 8 - told dh that I would take meals to dmom either this afternoon, weather permitting, or tomorrow.

I've read the paper and made a quick trip to the vet to p/u new meds for Macs so I can get that started.

The temp outside is 35 according to the weather channel and is to drop, resulting in wintery mix and sleet and icing. The meeting for tonight has already been rescheduled but I should do the prep anyway.

Another snow day for us. All schools are cancelled. However, it will be in the 60's by the weekend so the snow/ice should disappear in the next couple of days.

I woke up discouraged and frustrated. I am working the cards and feeling my mood get lighter as things get done.

Good morning! I am waiting on a LOOOONG table query, so I decided to pop in. The only thing I got done on my list from yesterday was balance the checkbook. However, it was a darn good thing I did! I was off by ~$57. Turned out I had forgotten to record a check in Quicken (it was in my paper register). Unfortunately, I had paid Master Card assuming that money was still there. If I had not caught the error quickly, I would have been hearing that sickening BOING sound when a check bounces. Transferred enough money to cover it from savings. I am trying to REBUILD my savings rather than pull from it, but bank fees certainly won't help!

It is another Girls' Night Out with DD13. I am hoping she will want to go to the restaurant that I have a 20% off coupon for.

Kathryn-in-Canada: The ~ character is definitely called a tilde in the US. I don't know any other words for it. Many thanks for the work you and Mr. In-Canada do for us, we really appreciate it!

Here are the home things I want to get done today:

File reimbursement paperwork
Write letter to friend
Write letter and print pictures for aunt
DR cleanup (my DR is really part of my kitchen, I still have the Christmas table cloth!)
Email friend about dinner tomorrow

If all that gets done my next list of 5 is:

Child support paperwork
Check on an investment account
Type minutes for animal org (annual meeting and special meeting)
Email mom some pictures
Order tickets for Midsummer Night's Dream
