Throw It Out Thursday

Post by BookSaver »

Last night we didn't have enough trash or recycling in the bins to make it worth taking them out to the curb. Very disappointing after all the decluttering and cleaning we did at DMIL's house on Saturday. We created such lovely open areas in her house, I want the same feeling in ours!

Therefore, my goal for today is to clear space. Anywhere, everywhere, doesn't matter if it's all in one room -- as long as I pre-load the bins in the garage for next week's trash pickup.

Hmmmm.....what to throw out, what to throw out. I am sure I have something. Does recycling/donating count?

Love witnessing the miracles in the life of Sweet Caroline too, LucyLee. She's a real trooper isn't she!

DD and I went to Disney last night (Magic Kingdom). Ended up dropping a Teddy Bear charm in the water at the entrance to Arial's Little Mermaid ride. Perfect. Could almost hear dgdZoe (it was her 4th birthday) laughing at Scuddle. So made it work even with Small World being closed for repairs/update/cleaning. I was pretty tired by the time we left and dd ended up getting a courtesy wheel chair. I sat in that, she pushed and I held my walker up on my lap. We must have been a sight. We parked close enough that we hadn't used the tram and took the boat across. Made access much easier. We don't try to do a lot when we go. Took the train from the front to Fantasyland and back. Rode the Winne the Pooh ride and had a bite to eat. That was enough to still get in several thousand steps. Only trouble with that was that I had to get up about 6 because of cramps from my foot up the front of my leg and in my calf as well. Walked around the house for about 10-15 minutes, just walking it off. Kept trying to stay in bed as it only got worse.

Have to make a W mart run this morning. Think I'll have my coffee and a bite and get up there before it gets too busy (she says hopefully). I went the other day and the parking lot was so full that I finally just left. Hated to think how bad the inside was if the outside was that full!

Yes, throwing it out from your home counts - donate, sell, recycle, trash it, but Get It Out!

It is amazing how stuff starts to accumulate.

And the difference open space makes when you don't have too much stuff. I'm still processing how open and 'fresh' the apartment below us looks compared to us. The difference is they don't have as much furniture (as well, they aren't running a business from the house since that means no office space and filing cabinets, fax/printers, additional internet and storage of archived files.) I suppose the office takes up 15% of our apartment contents so this place would be much better without that additional stuff. I'm resigned to always having an office though, since I can't imagine dh ever really retiring and he likes to work at a standing desk so that means he can't use one of the other desks or tables in the apartment.

We also have all the family history stuff tucked in closets and under the spare bed and other 'projects', not to mention all my preaching resources (a bookcase full that needs to be next to my desk in the living room) the two large exercise machines and all our antique furniture.

Our bedroom is actually quite good (bed, sea chest, two sets of drawers, two lounge chairs to fill in the corners and a hamper and clothes horse.) But other rooms have things tucked into corners and under side-tables. So there's a cramped feeling the apartment downstairs doesn't have.

On the other hand, it was awfully sterile as well. Only a few plants, only a few pieces of furniture that had a story. And dh says their tv room (our office) is pretty cramped. We didn't see into their bedrooms.

I think work habits is also a problem. I need my to-do piles to be out where I can see them (and my materials handy to grab if I need something.) So that leads to piles all over the apartment. I know that's not supposed to work for people but when I use a filing frame and 'file' my piles, I just don't do the items to be done. There are two year old to-do items in the filing frame next to my desk. Whereas the piles on my desk are only about 5 months old! Not great but better!

Hrmph! So much for an early trip to W mart. My tummy has developed a sudden need to be near the bathroom. No idea where that came from. I do feel a tad under the weather however. So guess I'll try my coffee and breakfast and do up the dishes -almost all glasses/cups.

That is weird about the neighbour's car alarm. That would make me feel very powerful!

I've done two items, order the theatre package for next year (so the papers describing that are in the recycle) and readied to mail a parcel to my cousin (which has been sitting on my desk since we moved.)

My goal is 10 paperwork items today. My desk is a disaster (the piles were all over the dining table but I stashed all that onto my desk and shut the roll-top yesterday.)

Next item: open the mail that somehow accumulated.

Actually, when you first described the other apartment, I was thinking it seemed too sparse, Kathryn. But I was thinking boring in comparison, rather than sterile in comparison. Without decor that has a story, as you said.

HRH is enjoying Tiny House Nation, the tv show in which people downsize into 300 sq ft houses. Can be wise, depending upon person and circumstances. But one I glanced at with him was a family of 4 (2 teens). The lady was an artist and was actually throwing away her own paintings that had hung in the kids' childhood home. :( I couldn't wrap my mind around that, with them just starting to mature, not knowing what decor will be meaningful in their futures. I see big regrets one day.

Great title - I do recognize that I have too much stuff and require a constant turnover! I can forgive my house lots of things, though, unless it bores me with no personal enjoyment - then it must not be my house.

I'll have to join the ranks of those not feeling up to par. An off schedule yesterday resulted in some poor food choices, maybe? Not sure. Also our weather is cold and soppy-wet, dark. Slept poorly last night because of cramps in my feet, Dee. I think mine was the sudden temp drop, because when I got another blanket, they were over. Also I had a little salt while I was up.

Tobias has been vomiting. I think I know what caused it - overturning trash can without getting caught, and finding too much, too spicy. He hasn't vomited in so long.

LOL Nancy! I am surprised just how far away I can be to get the garage door opener to work. And my cordless phones too.

Dee, feel better. You too, Harriet.

We were both out very early. When DH spends Wed eve at church, stuff doesn't get done in the evening and must be done Thurs morning. I had to help move trucks...and will probably do that again today. Yesterday's new helper who worked 2 hours, quit last night. Guess he thought what we do is easy..

DH works like you do, Kathryn. Piles or he forgets stuff.

I've sure been throwing things out, haven't I?! Yesterday something happened that made me really angry and I could have thrown out tons of stuff. Surprised me to realize some of my tossing is from frustration with the resident mess-maker here.

I lost my travel mug in the house, took a while to find it. DH couldn't get straight how he was putting his vehicles and what he needed (too early he said). It's one of those days.

Got my dailies done and my QT and desk work done, bills to the mail; stopped at bank on the way back home; all the stuff is out on dining room table (where we will work) for my audit this afternoon. I'll be so glad when that is over.

I like the title too. I'll be throwing out (recycling) lots of paper decluttering the kitchen island and my office.
Also, will be doing an errand which I've needed to do since September :!:
Have a great day.

Good morning! I actually got useful stuff done yesterday evening. First, I swapped out some books at the library. While I was in the lobby, the pastor called, and I was able to get the website situation straightened out. Someone from the church will call the web host company and re-up our subscription. I was not able to go with the new host, because I just don't have the knowledge to rebuild the website. I did get the website completely updated though. I have decided that I am a good website maintainer, but not developer. Since it is already developed, that's ok. If we ever move it, we will need a real developer.

I got my checkbook caught up and balanced. Payday is Friday, bills are due after that, so there will be money leftover! Whoo-hoo. Maybe I can buy a car after all.

Since the sewing room is part of FlyLady's zone this week, there will be plenty of opportunity for me to throw out (or recycle). Tonight is Girls' Night Out, and I have no idea what I am going to do (other than eat).

I just checked in some changes at payroll, break is over, must get back to it.
