Sunday PWYC Smart Words

Post by Lady Maverick »

My study this morning was about the importance, struggles and consequences of controlling my tongue. I often must remind myself what Harriet taught us "Just because it can be said doesn't mean I should say it" (paraphrased).

“Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.” Attributed to Abraham Lincoln

“Never argue with a fool, onlookers may not be able to tell the difference.” ― Mark Twain

I thought you were talking about Wordle, LadyM. Even my dh has started playing it.

We'll have brunch with ds this a.m. at 11:30 at a nice place. Dh is going back to the playground installation this afternoon - he was there yesterday.

Raising teenagers and pre-teen gives me plenty of opportunities to practice careful use of my words. They are quick to catch & point out anything that I do/say that contrasts with what I'm teaching them to do/say.

When they want to have foolish arguments, I usually tell them "Go talk to the tree". That is their clue that I'm not going to engage or participate in foolish argument.

I have done my journaling, thinking on good memories.
Good place for a focus.

♡ Day ahead I remembered on year we got blood work together before Dr. Appointments.
And other fun years, one time with the kids when they were young and h was on the road.
That year was festive with red food on the menu, pink icing on heart shaped cookies.

Remembered dson's 1st Superbowl party with friends.

Confessing I haven't always had kind (or smart) words for the Super Bowl frantic fanaticism over the years.

BUT, today I was brought up short by the SMART WORDS on the daily morning prayer online with the animals, that I've taken to watching some mornings. Today the Dean said this is the way to think about big sports events (like also England vs Italy Rugby today that means so much in his neck of the woods) : "We give thanks for that kind of creative activity of enjoyment for people".

I think I can do that. :)

It's been almost all I can do to avoid buying seeds for indoor starting. I spend time "proving" to myself online that I can probably locate almost the very plants I'd like to have here locally at the right planting times instead. If they are not absolutely spot-on, will I love caring for them less? It's hard to see quantities of seeds for relatively small prices beckoning, but I have to acknowledge that I'm not prepared any more with the supplies here, or the space here, and I don't have enough time as it is.

Those are great memories, Nancy. Getting blood work done together, lol - meaningful before ♡ Day.

HRH is down because the small gifts he ordered for little and big girls in the family were out of stock. Found out too late to order differently. In all honesty, I don't care, and I know in a way they don't (except for dgd, maybe), but he really looked forward to giving them. He'll just have to do something less tangible. I thought of a "JibJab" type video-song for them. He's good at that, but I don't know how long it takes, since he's a perfectionist with it.

One that comes immediately to mind is "Simplify, Simplify" (by Thoreau) that was what our morning message was essentially about. Very good btw.

Have a standing rib in the oven for dinner -just now turned it off and there it will sit for at least the next 2 hours. The recipe is soooo simple and it'll be done 'just right'. However I'm afraid I won't be able to eat it. I can sniff though.

Just had some tomato soup with sweet basil. I'd asked dh to get me some at our Ald i's over here the other day but they had none. I stopped at the one near our church on the way home and they had several so I picked up 3. To me it's very good and I can get 2 meals out of 1 container. Only trouble was I still had my church clothes on and started to peel the plastic off the top -ALL OVER ME! Not sure it's going to come out of my top. If it does it does -if not I've used this particular top for several years but it was still very good. It's so amazing in the grocery stores how many spaces are completely empty. I wanted club crackers ( I prefer those to saltines) and there were none at either store. I'll try at P ublix this week. I saw a meme the other day that said, "It looks like my grocery store needs to go grocery shopping." I'm sure we're all finding that to be true.

One of our church members brought a dessert made with crescent rolls yesterday -apple dumplings. It was so good and obviously so easy. I'm thinking I could use most any fruit in them. Bought some peaches to try. P ublix has the crescent rolls on sale this week (buy one/get one) so a good week to try it. Think our very picky son-in-law might even like it. Calls for sugar so I think I'll try 1/2 w/real sugar and 1/2 w/splenda. See if there's a big difference. If not it will be a good dessert for me.

Even with all the pasta at our Italian dinner yesterday -too much dessert, and I had chicken noodle casserole for dinner, 2 small squares of chocolate during the night BS was still only 69 this morning. Surprise!

Harriet, dh ordered 2 valentine packages from DD for tomorrow. Her "Skills" team did a package as a fund raiser -they had 144 at $5 each. Each one included a small valentine's box of chocolates, 1 carnation, 1 smart pop all tied together. Dh said he'd buy 2 if she had any left. As of Friday she had 5 left and they'll be given out tomorrow so if she can sell the remaining 5 she'll simply give him back his $10. And as for me and dd -we really don't need it anyway. The only part I'll use is the carnation. She bought both the carnations and the valentine boxes at S am's at a really good price. Think she said they had to sell 42 or so to break even.

Hello. I've been a slug today. Went to church but afterward had lunch and then been sitting. Watching the O games. Might watch a bit of the football tonight but probably not all. Last year we missed the whole thing because it was on CBS and our provider was in contract negotiations and they'd taken CBS away from our scheduling. We never did get it back. They finally took the number off our lineup. So dumb. This year it's on NBC so we'll get to watch if we care to.

I should gather up my garbage. Maybe look at my study for this week.

We had rain very early this morning. Just a bit ago it rained again. Gloomy day again. DH had just taken his bike out and got a few blocks away when it started, and flew home.

I should be using my time a little more productively..

I like the wisdom here. Things for me to remember.

Home from church and then a LOOOONNNNGGGG wait to get a table at restaurant. It took 1.5 hours from the time we arrived until we were seated and served. There are plenty of other restaurants that don't have to wait, but we were in throwback memory mode. This date 2 years ago we finalized DD10 adoption, so we decided to eat at this restaurant.
"It looks like my grocery store needs to go grocery shopping." I'm sure we're all finding that to be true.
I have seen empty shelves mentioned in other groups. Some were saying shelves were empty and zero meat available to purchase. I didn't know how common & widespread this is. We had some empty shelves at the beginning of covid a couple of years ago, but everything has been fully stocked since then.

The only thing I've had a hard time finding is my favourite cheesies. I just grab a bag of Cheetos when that happens.

We are having leftover stew and I am baking ribs in the oven. I guess some oil/grease dripped the other night because there is a lot of smoke every time I open the door. Even with temps being minus 10 C here, there are 2 windows that I have opened a bit to help clear the smokiness. Guess I am cleaning the oven this week.
