The Themes of Thursday

Post by Harriet »

What is your theme today? Where are you going with this particular Thursday?

Do you have an outline of your day or are you taking some literary license and winging it?

Today I am going to knitting. This afternoon I will be tidying the house for the cleaning lady who will be here tomorrow.

Supper? No idea right now. Shepherd's Pie maybe?

First day On My Own was enjoyable! I worked upstairs in the afternoon, had wine with dfriend M and ordered Doordash supper. What an extravagance, and I have enough for supper another night. And I just got the Instacart delivery of groceries too.

I think I'm struggling right now on my writing because I hate to finalize it. There's all those micro decisions that pile up on me - punctuation, citations, getting margins right - BTW I'm struggling getting margins right on my footnotes. Once I passed 100 footnotes, I realized I hadn't indented the start enough. And I'm trying to be consistent across the different projects too and I just feel overwhelmed by it.

Need to study up on footnote margins today and try to get them all set up right. There's different styles and part of my indecision is what style, and part is WORD. And I need to finalize the research report but those people really don't care that I've done and it just ticks me off. I feel like I'm bothering them when I've offered to do the work...

So many feelings.

Good morning. Another bad night of sleep (or lack there of). Got 4 hours last night and an hour and a half the night before. Think tonight I'll simply try not taking any Benadryl before I go to bed. Think it might be keeping me awake more than sleep. I'll just take what I can get. Hate going on so little sleep while I'm trying to get things ready for dh to go north and get ready for the service on Saturday.

Dh has gone to the hospital. DS-R is on his way down -his plane left Chicago about 1/2 hour ago. Due in Orlando at 1:11. Dsonil is going to go pick him up. Dh couldn't as he and dd are working (off-ice officials) at the Orlando Solar Bears hockey game tonight. DD's bemoaning the fact that she won't be around much to see DS. She has hockey tonight in Orlando, 'fun job' tomorrow night in Tampa. At least they'll have Saturday -or part of it anyway. Not sure if DS/DH are leaving Sunday or Monday. Dh would like to leave Sunday to beat the FL traffic and DS wants to leave Monday. Can't blame him.

Just finished filling up the empty parts of dh's medicine bins and put up the next 3 days in other containers -so I could get the others packed. Now think I'll take a small break before I pack his travel bag.

Have no idea when/how we'll get DS's bed set up since DD won't be home till 11 or so from Orlando. The art room has to be rearranged so we can put the bed in there. I imagine DS will go to the hospital with dh in the morning.
Begun is half done -SO! JUST BEGIN!!

(Twins). You'll get there.

I just updated all my spreadsheets. Don't think my brain was really in tune to what I was doing, took me forever to do an easy set of updates. Computer is slow these days. Don't know what the problem is. Probably need to have it looked at.

Must get out to the garden. I need to put a few things in but haven't had time to go out there. Or the ambition. DH is frustrated and keeps nagging me about it all. I wish he'd just do something instead of pushing at me to do whatever he thinks should be done. It's a small thing anyway. I just want a few tomatoes and some peppers. Gave up on seeds, the bunnies came and ate all the plants I had coming up last time. Maybe I just need to say goodbye to the veggie garden? I did that once, then we cut it down in size and I started again. Oh well.... Flower garden out front needs deadheaded badly. I'm more motivated to work out there.

We have an open house (birthday) to attend early this evening. Should be a quick in and out. Must make sure I still have his birthday card... he said no gifts, so I got a little paper thing to put in the card.

We have invite to DGSs for Easter. Road trip! 2 hours or so. May see some other people up there before we come home. We have our cousin up there and Sunny's sons; not sure who will be around but we'll check. Should be fun. Crossing my fingers for good weather.

Theme here is social studies. And tech problems that didn't allow answering of written questions.

Puppy has learned to go get her own toys. Gee, I don't know if that's legal. Seems to me she earned them so they're hers . Permissive grandma.

Twins', you learn who you bless with your work, and to whom, next time, you won't volunteer so readily.

Lucylee, I am contemplating your posts. I get the impression you were young at the time you may have slighted someone. Were you not also kind to (and around) that person? Try to remember courtesy you offered as well as slights. Don't zero in on the negative, necessarily.

Feet up and taking a break. It has been a busy morning.

** DD10 to school.
** DS13 homeschool assignments done.
** DH and I went to the city for fasting lab work (me) and neuropathy test/shoe fitting (him).
** We went to FOUR restaurants trying to find a place to eat breakfast. They were all packed with a waiting line. We drove back to our small town and ate breakfast at a local place with no lines and plenty of room to sit down and enjoy the meal.
** Routines #1 through #7 accomplished.
** I played in the garden as my reward and to get recentered after so much activity.

I don't know how I would react if my DH told me to do something. But it goes two ways - I don't tell him what to do either. Relationships are as unique as people.

Well, Harriet... if 18 was young. and the friend was a he, not a she. I'll update a little more, at the risk of sounding totally ridiculous.
(((HUGS))) for tech problems. I have been on the phone with Braves ticket office again. Finally was able to actually SEE my tickets on my phone... but oh, how I miss the days when PAPER tickets arrived in the mail.

WTG on a very busy morning, LadyM!
And likewise, Nancy!

(((Harmony))) Bless you... you and my dmom have lived SUCH parallel lives (re: frustration with workaholic dhusbands) ...just hang in there and, I guess, try to just ignore as much as you can.

(((Dee))) Dmom says she can't take Benadryl at bedtime because it gives her restless legs. And dh says it hypes him up rather than putting him to sleep, also. Me -- I can take two Benadryl and I am basically unconscious. Sending up a prayer for safe travels -- I hope your ds is safely on the ground by now!

Glad Cathy and Twins are having some fun time!
[Even if your "fun" is becoming a little more frustrating, (((Twins))).]

I've talked to dmom a couple of times -- her car has been sold, so she is very happy about that.
Talked to ds on the phone -- he and dgrands will ride to game with us; ddil will meet us there after her therapy appt.
When y'all see J&C you'll be certain I am the one who needs therapy.
So -- the theme for the day is baseball. :D But I did follow my rules, even with dmom talking to me on the phone till I had to get in the shower. DH and I went to the post office and I dusted the kitchen & part of dgrands' room (dgd dusted some for me last weekend.)
I still need to dust the master bedroom & bath and I'll say that part of WHB is done.
I am definitely lowering my standards a LOT from what Flylady suggests, and what most of you do, but I am thinking if I dust one week and vacuum the next, maybe I can maintain good habits of the 5 min. before newspaper reward in the morning, and if I spread out vacuuming over a few days, my back won't hurt so much.
Tomorrow is another day.

I planted the last of the peppers plants that i grew from seeds. I need to take an inventory of what is planted in raised beds so I can prioritize what else I want to plant.

The constant wind is getting on my nerves. I kept my head covered while working in the garden to block some of the noisy wind. They say we have 3 more days of this. I am so looking forward to and will appreciate the next time we have a day without howling winds.

DD10 earned her good behavior treat this week so I took her to get that. I'm not sure if it is bribery or rabbit therapy, but DD10 has changed the way she handles her emotions. It has been a difficult ingrained habit to change.
