I got a last minute notice yesterday that the grave of my DAR patriot is being marked this a.m. in a neighboring county and I decided to go instead of running errands today. So I'm getting ready to go to that. I haven't had my insignia out since the pandemic started so had to add some pins and rearrange. I need to take a chair, water, suncreen and hat. What else?

And this afternoon we're going to the friends' river house - so when I get home from the morning I should cut up some veggies and get together wine and snacks to go there.

I am flittering away my morning, but I am fine with that. Nothing really needs to be done. Did a grocery store run with Sweetie yesterday and then later in the afternoon we spent time outside trimming our Mexican palm trees.

Searched Amazon to see if they had Perry Mason books as I know the library doesn’t have them. Found some I can load on my kindle so I am enjoying reading them. It’s fun to compare the book to the show. Discovered the format of the show follows the book which is a great.

I don’t know if any one here besides Norma reads Bosch by Michael
Connelly. There a series on prime which follows his stories…I have read them all. However I just discovered that FreeVee, on my Roku, has another series Bosch Legacy with the same actors so I am in heaven. Gonna watch some today while on my gazelle.

Good Morning!

I have found joy in Sunny and Harmony relationship and being able to have long visits. It seems rare these days.

I spent an hour in the garden this morning watering, weeding, and harvesting. I harvested asparagus, onions, basil, beet greens, garlic, strawberries, peppers, and tomatoes. Yesterday I finished the white potato harvest so that is done for the year. The sweet potatoes vines are taking over that area now.

Yesterday afternoon our A/C units couldn't keep up with the heat. I very much resist calling them on the weekend because they need time to spend with their families. I am going to just get through the next two (100F) days the best we can and then call them on Monday. It stays cool in our home until about 2pm then the a/c units run 100% of the time as the temperature inside the house goes up. I gave up in the fun room and just set the thermostat to 90 so the a/c unit could stop running. Surprisingly, it didn't feel that bad. IMHO, having a good fan is vital to staying comfortable in the heat.

Yesterday someone turned DMIL a/c down and her home was 85F. She was wearing a coat and covering herself up with a blanket. DH asked if she would like him to turn her a/c off and she said "YES!". Everyone else just has to deal with her home being in the 90's year-round. We keep her home the temperature that she is the most comfortable.

Daily routines are almost completed. Just a few more cards to do.

Good sunny Sunny morning. I wasn't able to CUOP for yesterday yet but wanted to say "hello".

Weather (hot) is changing up my routine. I'm doing all outside chores before 9:00, so maybe that's a "Outdoor Crossroads of Order for the Day".

Fertilized half of plants
worked (and worked) on mystery poison vine
cleaned myself, my shoes
emailed ds not to mow there
carried recycling
parked in shade when finished!

Next up brunch that will include shitake mushrooms dd brought yesterday.

Yesterday - visit from a friend of HRH's included lunch. One hour phone call from oldest girl-cousin. Call that DangerBoy was feeling sick (tummy), so I took him a banana and a baking potato that he thought sounded like things he might try to eat, even if not until today. Somehow never getting any time to come check in here.

Thinking our Sunday may have a glitch in that HRH planned to team play with dd42's 2 oldest boys a massive multiplayer game for about 3 hours starting at noon here. They would be glued to screens, happily dependent on each other's attention plus other players elsewhere. Now it dawns on me that's Father's Day and several in the family might be knocking on the door assuming HRH would KNOW they'd want to visit that afternoon, bringing presents ... ..

Last nite my zoom class had tech. probs. I was sort of glad. 7-9 on Fri. nite is not my best time slot.

It's sunny, but very cool and REALLY, REALLY windy here today. Hope Dee isn't dealing with too much wind where she is.

We have had "brunch". Dh has watered the gardens.

LadyM why only 1 harvest of potatoes? My dh did 2 last year and will be doing a second later this summer. We have been having strawberries every day lately. Lots of tomatoes and peppers starting, which is nice. Peas are "almost" ready. I think dh has been nibbling them already.

I had a horrible night sleep last night-I just couldn't rest. At 12:30 to 1:30 I still hadn't gotten to sleep. I could easily go back to sleep. I am sure it is bc I am not eating healthy.

No doubt that I have been struggling this week. I really want to work in the yard but the work inside the house has been taking over.

I have to get past the uncomfortable feeling of jobs put off. I also have to take time for fun in the garden, daily, as there will always be work inside the house. I also want to take time with dh and me on my own as well to have summer fun.

I "think" I am catching up on the dailies. I hadn't done them for awhile so the jobs were much harder than they should have been. Doing the routine daily is usually easier once it is established again.

I have been pulling the worst jobs and doing them first thing. I know have added tedious jobs to the first thing in the morning - the jobs I put off - my problem is that I see those jobs as annoying visual clutter.

Worst job: clean dh's bathroom
Tedious job: put all the chewy containers of food etc. away in the garage - pick up the garbage and dog stuff the dogs have done in the yard.
Feel good job: find trash in the garage
Don't over think: plant veggies and work in garden - enjoy the outdoors - there is no such thing as perfect - having the perfectly free weed garden won't help me get things planted that need to be planted.

why only 1 harvest of potatoes?

Our air & soil temperature get too hot to have a second harvest. To have a fall harvest we would need to plant 90 days before November 10th (typical freeze for us). That would be planting around the first of August, and we our temperatures average over 100F during that time of the year. Long answer just to say....it is too hot here for a second potato harvest.

Something I have found strange this year....no bugs. I don't use any chemicals in the garden to kill bugs, so I usually have a good amount of them. I did something different this year that has me wondering if it could have this big of effect. I planted more flowers in the garden. My raised beds are 6 feet wide. I plant vegetables in the 2 feet both sides of the raised bed and then multiple kinds of flowers in the center two feet. I also have several dozen fake flowers (aka $1 from the dollar store), several dozen colorful metal flowers, and hundreds of colorful, fake butterflies all through the garden. Could all those flowers & fake doodads be reducing the bugs? I am doing the extra color just because I like the garden to be pretty, but I had no expectation it would cause bugs to stay away. Everything is producing well so the bees and pollinators are doing their job. I'm clueless why bugs are not here......yet? We don't even have grasshoppers this year! Just those @&#($)@(* moles/voles.

I pulled several pizza crusts out of the freezer that needs to be used. I'll assemble the toppings and then let everyone make their own pizza. The kids love doing this.
